Ugh! Ok.. I think I am officially over January too! Ha!
I don't think I ever finished my update from the other day but
needless to say I was relieved to get the Holter Monitor off! I was
fairly anxious that night and I couldn't sleep. The .5 mg of Ativan
didn't do squat! So, desperate to get to sleep I took one of my
Phenergan that I take for migraines. It is a sedative that is given
to patients pre-op and for nausea. Nausea is why I take it but what
the heck it couldn't hurt for sleep so I took one and off to la-la
land I finally drifted. I woke up the next day with a foggy hangover
from the Phenergan though…I'd forgotten about that because I haven't
taken it in so long. Oh well. I was still anxious all day and the
Ativan wasn't doing squat so I went back to my Primary Care for
another visit and he was like well we should get a scan of your gall
bladder to rule that out and then if nothing shows there we will send
you to the cardiologist. I was pissed at that point because he was
grasping at straws. My insurance allows us to go to a specialist
without a referral so I left feeling still lousy. I didn't tell him
that I was already seeing a Cardiologist yet because our PC is a
friend of my DH and he would think it "going over his head"
prematurely. I think I need to get a non-partisan Primary Care!! LOL!!
Anyway, so yesterday I went to the Cardiologist and had the Ehco
done. The nurse said that the Dr was going to come in to do the Echo
himself rather then the tech so I was freaked out. She assured me not
to worry. Yeah right…So he came in and said that the Holter Test was
fine and that he would discuss the results and the echo on this
coming Wednesday saying that some dumb rule with our insurance
prevents and office visit and a test in the same day. I was upset but
just layed there watching the Echo. It was really neat actually...
there on the screen I could see the mitral valve flapping away and
could see my heart! It's hard to describe but it was just neat to
watch.
Anyway, he blurts out, asking if I knew that I had a prolapsed Mitral
Valve. I was like um... NO…what does that mean and why did you ask.
He said it wasn't anything to be overly concerned about and asked me
to lay flat on my back where he proceeded with the echo for another
20 min. I was pissed but they did say that talking messed up the
sound waves so I bit my tongue.
He left as abruptly as he started and said I to make a consult
appoint for next week. His nurse came in and I almost burst into
tears asking her was I supposed to wait the whole weekend when he had
dropped the little bit of information on me. She said not to worry
that if it had been really serious he would have stopped and gone
over it all at that time. She said that he sits for "hours" at the
echo watching the test and looking at every bit to make sure of a
diagnosis. I was pissed but what could I do? I made the consult
appointment for Wednesday morning and went home.
I did a lot of research and found out that a lot of people with
mitral valve prolapse have migraines, tiredness, etc.. which I do
suffer from. So, the web sites I saw and the message boards all agree
that magnesium supplementation and Co-Q10 are really good ideas, so I
went and bought both. They can't hurt and maybe they will help. I
really am nervous, scared, and uncertain. Whatever he says on
Wednesday I think I am going to get a second opinion.
Anyway, that's it for now in my diagnostic battle. More to come next
week..
