Friends in Play

new Pragmatic Language groups

Friends in Play are ongoing 1 hr groups specifically designed for children with pragmatic/ social skill difficulties.  Each group is planned and taught by a speech-language pathologist (SLP). The format is based on the work of a leading expert in the field! The latest innovative methods will be included in sessions.  See below to sign up today!

Location & day/ time:

·         HELP me SPEAK’s new office in Waverly Woods (Woodstock, MD)

·         Saturdays at 11:00am (4-6yrs)

·         Wednesdays at 4pm (6-8 yrs)

·         Other ages TBD                                             

Children should attend who…. 

·         Are interested in having FUN & learning how  to make friends!

·         Struggle with pragmatic language and social skills--

o   Making friends—playing games, talking….

o   Conversations—starting, choosing topics, continuing,  ending…

o   Nonverbal communication---facial expressions, body language…..

o   Anger management—compromising with others

o   Considers several viewpoints

o   Understands humor

o   Self-awareness

·         Have any of the following diagnoses---

o   Auditory Processing Disorder

o   Autism spectrum disorders (Asperger’s, PDD, autism)

o   AD/HD

o   Executive Function language difficulties

o   Receptive/ Expressive Language delays

o   Learning disabilities

o   Sensory integration dysfunction

·         Need to learn new skills &/or enhance the performance of their existing skills

Goals are based on a combination of…..

·         A parent questionnaire

·         A pragmatic checklist

·         A 30 minute client interview
