Summer Social Language Group Therapy Program: SPACE STILL AVAILABLE
The University of Maryland's Hearing and Speech Clinic is offering a Social Language Group Therapy Program this summer for children with Autism, Asperger's Syndrome and other social language problems. Activity-based intervention will engage children and provide a format to practice social interaction skills. Group sessions target functional communication skills such as: improving self-advocacy skills, identifying common interests with others, handling disagreements, using manners, starting conversations, interpreting nonverbal communication, joining in play, and turn-taking. Activities are structured around a variety of themes such as art/crafts, games, cooking, music, science experiments and drama.
There is some space is still left in all age ranges:
Young Group (ages 4 to 7) meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00 to 2:30pm, starting June 16th and ending July 23rd.
'Tweens Group (ages 7 to 11) meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, starting June 17th and ending July 24th.
Teens Group (ages 12 to 16) meets Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:30 to 4:00 pm starting June 18th and ending July 25th.
All groups meet at the Hearing and Speech Clinic located on the University of Maryland's College Park campus.
The deadline for applying for the groups is Thursday, June 5th.
