Summer Social Language Group Therapy Program
The University of Maryland's Hearing and Speech Clinic is offering a Social Language Group Therapy Program this summer for children with Autism, Asperger's Syndrome and other social language problems. Activity-based intervention will engage children and provide a format to practice social interaction skills. Group sessions target functional communication skills such as: improving self-advocacy skills, identifying common interests with others, handling disagreements, using manners, starting conversations, interpreting nonverbal communication, joining in play, and turn-taking. Activities are structured around a variety of themes such as art/crafts, games, cooking, music, science experiments and drama. Social language groups are forming now for children between the ages of 10 to 16. Groups will contain 3 to 5 members and are matched by age and skill level. Groups will meet June 16th through July 25th, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. For more information, please contact: Maria V. Dixon, M.A., CCC-SLP at (301) 405-8083 or mdixon@....
