Fwd: [asha-div2] Young Person with Aphasia Scholarship   Message List

This is a great opportunity for some younger clients who have aphasia. I thought I would try to help spread the word. I don't yet have first hand knowledge of this program, but Bill attended one of my training sessions a few years ago and I was quite impressed with him and his insights on helping people who have aphasia.

The 2008 Young Person with Aphasia Scholarship

The Aphasia Center of Innovative Treatment and www.aphasiatoolbox.com are pleased to announce that applications for the 2008 Young Person with Aphasia Scholarship are being accepted.  Collaboration with the Aphasia Treatment CyberClinic means an enhanced treatment program with less or no travel cost to the recipient.  In order to better accommodate the individual patient needs and resources, the configuration of the treatment hours will focus on web-based online sessions and may include on-site direct treatment. This program will now allow for intensive treatment by combining direct treatment with caregiver and patient training in self-help therapy.  Bill Connors will provide treatment which will include 40 hours of individual treatment and practice-partner training.  Due to last year’s volume of applications, this year we will award three scholarships.

The selection committee awarded our first scholarship to Shiloh Hendricks from Georgia.  Shiloh attended intense treatment sessions in Pittsburgh and continued working via long distance sessions.

Candidates must be in the twenty-seven year age span between the ages of 18 and 45 who experience aphasia as a result of a cerebrovascular accident or brain injury.  The winner will be chosen by a committee based on the following criteria:  financial need; exhaustion of insurance coverage for aphasia therapy; preparedness and motivation for therapy; and life goals.   A subscription to www.aphasiatoolbox.com will be required to allow for access to computer programs, treatment protocols and practice materials.

To apply, send a completed application [ see below or attached ] by 01/3015/08 to: information@...

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at: information@...  or 724-494-2534
