"Pathways to Communication Enhancement"

 

Pathways to Parent Support

& Training (“PPST”)

 

What is PPST?

PPST is a group specially designed for parents & caregivers of children with speech & language delays/disorders.  The first group of its kind in Carroll County, PPST offers parent training and support.   Meetings include a meet & greet, a guest lecture on various topics & a Q&A time. Trained professionals & other parents/caregivers are on hand for support and guidance.  PPST is run and sponsored by SPEECH PATHways.  For more information visit www.speechpathways.net.

 

Who can attend PPST?

PPST is open to the community.  You do not have to have a child receiving therapy from SPEECH PATHways to attend.  However, it is necessary to RSVP to reserve a seat.

 

When does PPST Meet?

PPST will meet the 3rd Friday of each month from 7-9pm. (except for December, June, July & August)

 

Where does PPST Meet?

PPST will meet at the SPEECH PATHways office located at 532 Baltimore Blvd., Ste. 403, in Westminster. (Westminster Professional Center)

Guest Speaker(s):                                     Dr. Christine Accardo, Director of Children's Services for the Mid Atlantic Human Services Corporation and Program Director for The Shafer Center for Early Intervention

 

Topic:                                                           Behavioral Assessment and Intervention

Dr. Accardo will discuss behavioral assessment and interventions for children with special needs.  Dr. Accardo is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).

   FUTURE DATES & TOPICS: 

The upcoming topics for 2007 include:

"Different Doesn't Have to Mean Separate": A parent-led discussion on raising children with disabilities and the education choices they face.  Barb Feldman, Casey Huether and other parents raising children with differences will share their background and experiences in raising a child/children with disabilities and the educational paths they have chosen for their child/children. The panel of parents will open the floor for discussion and questions.

“Brain Gym and other Sensory Activities”:  Julie Parsons, OTR of Kidnections will demonstrate sensory activities to enhance learning.  This will be an interactive session.
