Legislative Update:
First, can I just say thank you to everyone for their response to my last two e-mails? Our lobbyist, Eric Bryant, also expressed his gratitude for all of the letters and calls that have been made to encourage our legislators to vote in support of SB600 and SB773. I am very proud to be part of such a proactive organization.
Having said that, if you haven't had a chance to contact your legislators, it's not too late to help us out by making a call. Go to mdelect.net and enter your address to find links to your elected officials. Thanks!
Here's the good news: The Education subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee voted favorably on SB 600 (the bill that would mandate licensure fee reimbursement for speech language pathologists and audiologists working in the public schools). Tomorrow it will likely be voted on by the full committee. If it makes it through the full committee, then it's on to the full house (is this poker?). If anyone has a good contact in the House, this would be a critical time to take advantage of it.
Here's the "medium" news: A work group will convene tomorrow morning to address certain issues associated with SB 773. Eric thinks we have a 50/50 chance of retaining comprehensive licensure. We are certainly hoping for good things to come out of this meeting.
So that's the update so far....I'll keep you posted.
