Aaron,
You won't get invalidation from ME, that's for sure...
My SO D is definitely fragmented enough that *I* think he's DID... he
hasn't had it formally diagnosed... he WAS dx'd with Borderline
Personality Disorder some years back, but honestly, I think that
could have been due to the doctor not knowing him well or not being
familiar with DID, maybe both. I live with him, I've seen the
others, and I think the doc missed the boat.
Feel like sharing some of your wife's story? *I* believe... surely
others here do, as well. If they don't, IMNSHO, they shouldn't BE
here, considering what this group is SUPPOSED to be about. I'd like
to see more from you... email's welcome if you aren't yet comfortable
with the idea of posting here.
I understand about the "general public" not having much of a clue...
a friend of mine at work had no idea that Dissociative Identity
Disorder was a "synonym" for Multiple Personality Disorder... she had
heard of MPD, but not DID, I mean. That's probably pretty common.
I'm also somewhat familiar with Tourette's, if that makes any
difference... in college I was in a broadcasting society (not a
sorority or fraternity, but similar) and we did some fundraising for
Tourette's, so at least I have a working knowledge of the condition.
Long time ago, now, but I feel for you, just the same.
Glad you posted!
Lissa
