Hi Jen
I work as a counselling psychologist in private practice. My PhD was in
false/repressed memory and included work on DID. My reasons for studying DID
were because the UK is so behind the times in MPD/DID studies. Many
professionals here refuse to accept that DID is real. A few years ago I met
someone who became very dear to me and that I love deeply and she is DID. So
although I had studied DID I had no qualifications in the subject and had to go
to an American College to qualify. Luckily for me they have a UK office. This
has helped me in my personal relationship and so with personal experience of
DID and my studies I hope to be able to assist people with DID. I will share
that I know in my heart that DID exists and is a reaction/defence mechanism to
extreme trauma. According to my research in 2000 only 25% of abuse survivors
have the creative ability to Dissociate to the level of dissociation that DID
uses. This figure is likely now inaccurate.
I have not as yet seen a client with DID maybe because so many people are not
aware they have DID. If you would like to write to me personally please feel
free. Maybe we can share information. No pressure either way.
Best wishes
Graham
