Hi Everyone....My name is Emily. I didn't lose a child but I did
lose a close member of my family. My brother in law committed
suicide last April. He suffered from major depression as well as
having a severe learning disability. The night before he died, he
was acting out and the police were called to take him to the hospital
and no one at the hospital admitted him; Despite his threatening
suicide. He has been in and out of the hospital for suicidal
attempts and also for his depression for about 6 years. He was 18.
She wanted to sue the hospital, the police department and crisis
management. Her lawyer advised her against it. She is however
looking to find out where things could have been different for him.
Either in the hospital, or the school district. I left some facts
out of this as to keep it short. But if you would like more
information please email me.
What I'm looking for is mother's grandmother's, aunt's, family
member's or friends. Suicide survivors that have gone through
this....where they feel the hospital could have done differently...I
would like parents with children who have learning disabilities where
the child has taken his life and didn't get the help that was should
have been there....either with the schools they are at or the
hospital. What we are doing is trying to get a law passed to prevent
this from happening again. Find out what went wrong and try and make
it right. If we get enough voices we CAN make it right. Please can
you help our family.
Thank You All. I have been reading the posts here and its helped me
through the last year. It hurts so much.
