Re: Back to Life Extension Please!!

Fair enough assesment. I have really only been looking into life
extension since the beginning of the year and hadn't posted cuz I
don't know anything :) Yet! I guess I have my spiritual and
philisophical aspects of my life in order and really don't look to any
man made governments or thinking to help me with my long term goal of
living a good long time. But that is a subject I won't go into as many
have differing opinions on such matters.

[Kitty and I are certainly not looking "to any man made governments" to help us
either. Far from it, we are wanting all governments to specifically get out of
our way, precisely so that undistorted "man made thinking" and free choices can
be given full reign. As for "man made thinking", that is all that exists. There
is nothing but humans who can think as humans do, to understand the universe and
to each make decisions about what is best for him/herself. If you really don't
need "man made thinking", then you also don't need anything that you will find
here on this group, or elsewhere that you seek information, about living long
and living more healthily. --Paul]

For me it is the here and now as I am 40 and have had diabetes type 2 for 12
years now.

[It should be "the here and now" also for everyone. However, one also needs to
be concerned about the tomorrow, the next month, the next year and the ten years
from now. Otherwise, one will not be optimally taking care of those here and
nows when they arrive. In fact, if you had put more thought into the "here and
nows" of the future when you were 28 (and before), then you would not be in the
fix that you are in the here and now of today.

However, after reading about the current "mess" that you are in, I fully agree
that for *you* there is little point in placing much thought toward the longer
term when, without major effort now, you are not going to see that day come
about. --Paul]

Have numb feet because of early lack of sugar control and am about 60 pounds
overweight.

[What is your actual weight & height or BMI? You should be aiming to get your
BMI to the low 20s. With your problems already major, you do not have the luxury
of being at any higher BMI. --Paul]

Working on that with exersize and low carb diet. It is
amazing but everything I heard about low carb is you don't get enough
veggies and fruit. Well on the low carb I eat 2-3 times more veggies
that I did on my low fat diet as I am into grains!! So I am getting
more of the nice veggies but not losing much.

[I don't understand this "into grains". Grains are not veggies and they are very
high in carbohydrates. The best low carb approach will reduce all the grains
drastically, particularly all wheat and rice. Only rye and high protein grains
such as quinoa, amaranth, buckwheat (not really a grain) should be used. No
pasta or white potatoes, nor high sugar fruits such as oranges should be eaten.
In fact in your situation, eat nothing but berries for fruit with maybe a few
dried prunes. --Paul]

I had my thyroid killed
off by radiation a few years back as it grew large and made me
hyperthyroid. That also gave me nasty heart PVC's [premature ventricular
contractions]. Even though I am in good thyroid ranges I still have those
pesky PCV's. Lots of them and I fear them most. So I figured it couldn't
hurt to take a bunch of supplements.

[This is the wrong approach. First comes diet and exercise which will achieve a
BMI in the low 20s. Then comes supplements. The supplements are a waste of money
without the proper diet and exercise first. --Paul]

Takes months or even years I am figuring out to get the
right ones in the right combination. Nothing has helped the PVC's yet.
I am starting a walking routine to help BP and cholesterol although I
am not bad at between 180-200 most of the time. Triglycerides are
always below 80 due the low carb. I have cut out all trans fats too.
The biggest boost I have gotten from supplements is my ALC, NAC,
R-ALA, Primrose oil, vitamin C combo I take in the morning. It really
gives me energy I never had before.

[Weight reduction to a low 20s BMI and exercise will give you even more energy.
--Paul]

So I am still quite a mess
physically and mainly concentrate on that aspect of life extension.
Heck I would be happy to make it to 65-70 the way things are now. I
looked at your site a bit but didn't get too much past what your daily
regemins are so that is probably why I didn't know much about anything
else you had there. Sorry, must read more.

[Read the area about food http://morelife.org/personal/health/dietregimen.html
and read our comments in the very last post. --Paul]

So my question is after all the supplements you two take each day how
do you find room for food ;-))

[We eat lots of food. The supplements slide down in the middle of each meal.
--Paul]

[We do chuckle sometimes when we have emptied our meal pills into one of the LEF
whey powder scoops - do this when I'm setting up all the containers for "doing"
our 9 days worth of pills. At those times the visible sight of "all those pills"
is humorous especially at those meals when we're not ravenous. ;>) **Kitty]

Do you have any problems with stomach
upset? I found that I cannot tolerate any capsule type supplements.

[Why? What happens? If you take them with food then there should be little
problem. Our worst problems occur if we do not take them with enough liquid to
get them down all the way (which most often happens - but only rarely - with our
pre-sleep pills). Getting a pill stuck in the esophagus or having a capsule
break part way down so that one snorts or coughs out poweder is not fun.
However, we have never had any stomach problems at all. --Paul]

[I concur. I've found that only on those occasions that I do not take the time
to make sure that each mouthful of pills is well coated with the liquid -
usually our meal cocktail - will I have a problem getting them down. I started
out swallowing only 3 or 4 at a time but now will take one *large* gelcap or
tablet (Super DHA/GLA or LEF mix for example) with a mix of 5 or 6 others and
have no difficulty. The whole "trick" is in swishing everything around well and
doing a slight throwing back of the head while swallowing. **Kitty]

Only tabs and softgels. I also have acid reflux and belching up a
vitamin tablet is something I don't ever want to do again. Major
pain!!! Especially with no liquid available.

[The other thing re. pill taking and stomach toleration that occurs to me is
that most should not be taken on an empty stomach. Doing so very often causes an
upset stomach. We do not take our pills until at least 1/3 through the meal.
Then we usually take them fairly quickly so that we can proceed on to fully
enjoy the taste of our food. (The meal cocktail is not especially pleasant
tasting despite the word "cocktail" ;>) And if you know that acid reflux is one
of your problems, you probably have been told to eat small quantities at a time
and do not recline within a couple hours of eating. These recommendations are
worthwhile to follow. **Kitty]

I am just a mess trying
to get better and I thank you for the great info on this group and
your website. Guess I just got spoiled with all the research type
stuff.

[As we have said, life-extension/life-expansion is defintely more than
supplements, and even more than diet and exercise - and the research that
supports our recommendations. But for someone in a current "mess" as you
describe yourself, it is appropriate to concentrate the greatest bulk of your
time on pulling yourself out of that "hole" using LE information on the website
and here.
As you make progress, however, I encourage you to widen your perspective and
consider the other aspects of MoreLife that you may now consider "off-topic". In
doing so you will find much to stimulate your thinking and at least keep those
brain cells from deteriorating. **Kitty]

Have a great day all!! Mike
