Kitty and Paul,
Message received. Have a good trip and stay well.
Regards,
Marti
[Well we're back - in Toronto - but still have our 3 months supply of
supplements to unpack, a chore we will probably finish up later today.
(Actually, since it's now Monday, we've got everything put away and made our
first trip to Kensington Market for most of our fresh food.) Except for
inadvertently leaving a pillow in the motel room our first night out, everything
was going just fine until the third morning. Paul woke up after a few hours of
sleep and was in the midst of his mysterious left leg ailment which hadn't
struck since last June. (I described this in an old Kitty Reflects
http://morelife.org/personal/kittyreflects/kiton021114.html) After giving him
echinnecea, goldenseal, grapefruit seed extract, Vit C and an aspirin (for the
obvious fever he was running) washed down with juice he got a bit more sleep.
Ordinarily we would have been on our way on the last morning by 10am (we stay in
the Michigan City IN to Benton Harbor MI area on the 2nd night on return trips
to Toronto), but this time it was about 15 min past noon before we managed to
pull out of the motel and head for a final fill-up at the Benton Harbor Flying
J. Since Paul was not feeling his usual great self, the driving was up to me,
including crossing the border. This last is always like "running the gaunlet"
since we never know what kind of border guard we're going to get. This time
however, we had no problems and the fellow only wanted to be sure we didn't have
any ephedra among the "vitamins and supplements" Paul was bringing back to
Canada and whether we had any tobacco or alcohol. That was an easy "No" to all
three. He didn't seem to bothered by our mixed marriage status - guess we looked
harmless to him, unlike that woman back in Nov of 2002.
Up until this point in time I had let Paul do all the driving in Canada. Now I
had my first need to drive the Canadian highways 401 and 427, the Gardiner
Expressway, and the busy Toronto Spadina Ave. I had been dreading having to do
so the 3 1/2 years since joining Paul since I thought the city streets quite
narrow and busy and the highways near Toronto very full. All turned out quite
well however, and I really found, once behind the wheel, that the roadways were
no worse than those in many of the places I had driven in Arizona.
After resting most of Saturday, Paul was up to attending Mary Lou's 60th
birthday party in Kitchner that night (on the Calendar here). It was very nice
and the dancing was fun, though we kept it a bit restrained and on the short
side.
While spring was beginning to turn into early summer in central Arizona when we
left (after a nice week of much needed frequent rains), Spring has just barely
peeked it's nose out here in Toronto, as can be seen from only the occasional
pockets of hyacinth (although crocuses are out in full blossom - or as we like
to say "croci"). All the trees are bare of buds and people are still wearing
winter coats. Since we missed almost all of spring here last year it will be
nice to see the gardens come to life this April. **Kitty]
