There have been very few comments posted to this symposium (the weekly
symposiums are a very new feature of RRND), but one (from Neal
Reynolds) was excellent and revealed the existence of another person
who is thinking about these ideas from a more fundamental viewpoint
than most. Today being the last day of the week that RRND is published
and therefore the last day readers will be tweaked about the symposium
(although it will still be open for later comments), I posted some
thoughts that I had during the week in trying to come up with clearer,
more decisive reasoning about why I think that gambling is not
conducive to optimally increasing lifetime happiness (and therefore,
by my definition it is irrational). Those interested can go to the
above link to read all the comments or go to:
http://www.rationalreview.com/content/17949#comment-8215 to read only
this last comment of mine. However, be sure to also read Neal's
positive comment about my thoughts, posted right after.

[So those of you who are very pressed for time during the work week but have
thoughts to add to the symposium, can do so over the weekend. Actually it's
never too late.... especially if the entry is something others will find of
value. **Kitty]
[And although I and Kitty advise against it, you don't have to even identify
yourself to post a comment to anything at the Rational Review's website. OTOH,
if you don't then I sure as hell will not reply to your comment. I was going to
put a smilie after that last, but then I realized that was not appropriate,
because I mean it seriously!
The above remarks are directed at the large number of MoreLife Yahoo members who
no longer post since I and Kitty imposed rules against anonymous messages (in
July 2005). --Paul]
