The comment was made recently on a blog (about blogs - by
cryonicists) that MoreLife needs a blog. But first, here is how I
found about this. I had followed a referral logged by the tracking
tool we have installed on the MoreLife front page, to a new thread
on a site that periodically shows up as the source from which some
person has reached us. It would have been far better had the blogger
posted a message here with that suggestion, or least sent me an
email, than to merely make a comment referring to MoreLife without
any attempt to inform us that it had been made.
Anyway, back to the subject of blogs. .... Paul and I have discussed
blogs and decided that having a blog separate from this Yahoo group
does not serve any advantage. Anyone who fulfills the identification
requirement for posting can make public comments and/or ask
questions about anything on MoreLife and Self-SIP. By having a
moderated group, the threads are kept at a level of reasoned
discussion and do not deteriorate into verbal brawls, which
unfortunately I've seen far too often on the blogs of even some of
the more reasoned thinkers. Maybe some people enjoy hurling insults
in preference to logical thought presentation - I can only wonder if
this is tolerated by "observers" because many cannot themselves
formulate a sound argument and would also fall prey to such
valueless tactics. Having this group arranged in a seminar-like
fashion allows an interested and forthright participant (one who has
identified hirself to us) to learn how to reason and to make
posts/send messages that are informative and more likely to be of
value to readers.
Having said all this, I won't say that Paul and I will never have a
blog for making our less formalized ideas/thoughts known to others.
Kitty Reflects on MoreLife and our Photo pages are locations on our
site where I can do that, though I haven't had time lately for
updating either. While Paul doesn't have such a dedicated page
within MoreLife, he also doesn't have the time to make entries of
this nature either. But we're very much willing to stop what we're
doing and respond to qualified posters at MoreLife Yahoo who have
some question or comment pertinent to the contents of MoreLife or
Self-SIP - and that makes for a pretty broad area.

[I see blogs as perhaps important for those who are commenting on daily current
events, recording their thoughts as with a diary, and mulling over problems for
which they have either no solution or at the most a very preliminary and
unfinished one. 30 years ago, a blog might have been a useful tool for me to
have. But at this point in my thinking and writing, I need all the time that I
have just to complete the formulation, method and description of what I am
convinced is valid and practical in general, and will apply to every particular
instance, rather than needing modification for each daily occurrence as a
separate item. There are far too many major writers and thinkers whose writings
need to be critically analyzed and who I need to attempt to influence to my own
way of thought (because of their major influences on many others) for me to have
the time for blogging. --Paul]
