Re: [moderndaymacrobiotics] thanks to all the replies

Hello Anne,

Yes it is true that wheat and other grains contain gluten. However as the grains and other foods like vegetables are so high in fibre is not usually a problem. Humans have been eating grains for many thousands of years. From my experience eating unprocessed whole grains has a different effect to the processed grains used to make bread or pasta. Brown rice, corn on the cob, barley, oat groats, whole wheat, quinoa, rye and spelt (all in their seed form) do not necessarily have the same effect.

It is possible that gluten eaten from processed grains along with a diet high in saturated fats (meat and dairy foods) make the situation worse as the fat moves through our intestines so slowly.

I hope this helps.

Simon

I  have another question.  I have read that wheat contains gluten, that is literally like glue and stick to the intestines and also damages the villi in the small intestines.

IS this information wrong, as I wonder why macro seems to use a fair amount of wheat type products and seemingly with no ill effects.

I know when I was small if I did not have glue, my mother would make me some with w hite flour and water..!

I realise that of course wholegrains are always the way to go.

thanks for your suggestions to me so far.

ANNE
