Subject: [ibogaine] Thank you, President Bush
Status:

 Thank you, President Bush

From the world's most popular novelist, Paulo Coelho, an open letter
of praise for President Bush.

Thank you, great leader George W. Bush.

Thank you for showing everyone what a danger Saddam Hussein
represents. Many of us might otherwise have forgotten that he used
chemical weapons against his own people, against the Kurds and against
the Iranians. Hussein is a bloodthirsty dictator and one of the
clearest expressions of evil in today's world. But this is not my only
reason for thanking you. During the first two months of 2003, you have
shown the world a great many other important things and, therefore,
deserve my gratitude.
So, remembering a poem I learned as a child, I want to say thank you.
Thank you for showing everyone that the Turkish people and their
parliament are not for sale, not even for 26 billion dollars.
Thank you for revealing to the world the gulf that exists between the
decisions made by those in power and the wishes of the people.
Thank you for making it clear that neither Jos Mara Aznar nor Tony
Blair give the slightest weight to or show the slightest respect for
the votes they received. Aznar is perfectly capable of ignoring the
fact that 90% of Spaniards are against the war, and Blair is unmoved by
the largest public demonstration to take place in England in the last
thirty years.
Thank you for making it necessary for Tony Blair to go to the British
parliament with a fabricated dossier written by a student ten years
ago, and present this as 'damning evidence collected by the British
Secret Service'.
Thank you for allowing Colin Powell to make a complete fool of himself
by showing the UN Security Council photos which, one week later, were
publicly challenged by Hans Blix, the chief weapons inspector in Iraq.
Thank you for adopting your current position and thus ensuring that,
at the plenary session, the French foreign minister, Dominique de
Villepin's anti-war speech was greeted with applause - something, as
far as I know, that has only happened once before in the history of the
UN, following a speech by Nelson Mandela.
Thank you too, because, after all your efforts to promote war, the
normally divided Arab nations were, for the first time, at their
meeting in Cairo during the last week in February, unanimous in their
condemnation of any invasion.
Thank you for your rhetoric stating that 'the UN now has a chance to
demonstrate its relevance', a statement which made even the most
reluctant countries take up a position opposing any attack on Iraq.
Thank you for your foreign policy which provoked the British foreign
secretary, Jack Straw, into declaring that in the 21st century, 'a war
can have a moral justification', thus causing him to lose all
credibility.
Thank you for trying to divide a Europe that is currently struggling
for unification; this was a warning that will not go unheeded.
Thank you for having achieved something that very few have so far
managed to do in this century: the bringing together of millions of
people on all continents to fight for the same idea, even though that
idea is opposed to yours.
Thank you for making us feel once more that though our words may not
be heard, they are at least spoken - this will make us stronger in the
future.
Thank you for ignoring us, for marginalising all those who oppose your
decision, because the future of the Earth belongs to the excluded.
Thank you, because, without you, we would not have realised our own
ability to mobilise. It may serve no purpose this time, but it will
doubtless be useful later on.
Now that there seems no way of silencing the drums of war, I would
like to say, as an ancient European king said to an invader: 'May your
morning be a beautiful one, may the sun shine on your soldiers' armour,
for in the afternoon, I will defeat you.'
Thank you for allowing us - an army of anonymous people filling the
streets in an attempt to stop a process that is already underway - to
know what it feels like to be powerless and to learn to grapple with
that feeling and transform it.
So, enjoy your morning and whatever glory it may yet bring you.
Thank you for not listening to us and not taking us seriously, but
know that we are listening to you and that we will not forget your
words.
Thank you, great leader George W. Bush.
 Thank you very much.

I found a lovely information site.  It is the "Federation of American Scientists" site.  I assume them to be relatively unaffected by paranoia.

I came across them looking for information relating to cover-ups of 9-11 (and Eleanor Hill's statements relating to the knowledge that we had about flying jets into buildings, which are there BTW).

Perhaps you were already aware that Bush had gutted the "Presidential Records Act" of 1978 with Executive Order 13233 in order to keep the records of President Reagan secret.  Many assume that this is to protect the current regime from criticism, as most of them are former Reagan/Bush-I staffers, and would be held up to public scrutiny if these records were made public (including his father, as a co-conspirator in Iran-Contra).

Anyway, the shrub has issued a new "clarification" of Executive Order 12958 ("CLASSIFIED NATIONAL SECURITY INFORMATION "--1995) which would make almost anything that they wanted to keep a secret classified for as long as they want.

It also defers the "automatic" provision of the order (to declassify anything older than twenty-five years) until December 31, 2006 (damn convenient if you ask me).  Had he not done so, automatic declassification would have commenced this April 17th.

The Federation of American Scientists remarks on this information are available at the links below.

DRUG DEALERS GO ON STRIKE

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Drug dealers in Copenhagen's Christiania hippie
colony took novel action on Wednesday by going on strike to protest against
proposals to bulldoze the alternative "free city."

Some politicians, mainly from the ruling center-right Liberals party, have
called for the 30-year-old colony to be demolished to make way for a big
urban renewal scheme.

"All trade has been stopped since this morning and we do not know how long
this strike will take, maybe days, maybe months," Pernilla Hansen at the
Christiania information office told Reuters.

"We want to show the government that an open market for soft drugs is
better then forcing people on to streets where much harder stuff is sold
illegally," she said.

The 75-acre former military compound bordering a picturesque area in
downtown Copenhagen was occupied by hippie squatters in 1971 and declared
an autonomous "free city" and alternative society.

With a population of around 1,000, it is one of Copenhagen's most popular
tourist attractions, visited by about half a million people a year, many to
buy soft drugs such as cannabis.

CANNABIS MEDICINE 'ON SALE THIS YEAR'

The first cannabis-based prescription medicines for more than 30 years will
be available in high street chemists this year, the drugs minister, Bob
Ainsworth, revealed yesterday.

GW Pharmaceuticals, which was licensed by the Home Office to carry out
clinical research trials on cannabis, has submitted "an extremely positive"
report to the medicines control agency before final approval.

"We could be in a situation where we are able to make cannabis-derived
medicines available before the end of the year," Mr Ainsworth told MPs.

The drug company has been testing an under-the-tongue spray in trials
involving about 350 patients. The spray has been useful in treating
multiple sclerosis and helps reduce nerve damage pain and sleep disturbance.

CANNABIS CAFE OPENING

Saint John could soon have a cannabis cafe, one of only a handful in Canada.

Jim and Lynn Wood plan to open Hemp NB's Cannabis Cafe at 86 King St.,
above Shorney's Optical, on April 1.

They won't be selling marijuana, but they're going to let customers 19 and
older smoke pot on-site.

Cigarette smoking, how-ever, will be not allowed because it's "toxic" and
"gross" and "should be illegal." They will also close relatively early each
day, about 6 or 7 p.m., to avoid attracting drunk people, who can be "loud
and violent."

Hemp NB's Cannabis Cafe will include a hemp products sales room and two
smoking rooms, which will overlook King Street.

MARIJUANA IN JAIL? NEVER!

It's common knowledge that drugs are readily available in Canada's prisons
- - unless you have a prescription. Michael Patriquen, leader of Nova
Scotia's Marijuana party and past federal candidate, has a doctor's
prescription and a Health Canada permit for medicinal marijuana to help
with chronic pain stemming from a 1999 car accident. But he's also serving
a six-year prison sentence for various marijuana offences and Corrections
Canada has a strict 'no way' policy about handing out marijuana to prisoners.

"There is still no legal supply (of marijuana) available," explained prison
spokeswoman Lynn Chaplin.

They offered Patriquen synthetic THC pills but he refused on the advice of
other doctors. Another prison doctor offered opiates, which he also
refused. "I told him that I didn't want a drug problem on top of everything
else. They're highly addictive."

POT CHARGES STAYED

CHARLOTTETOWN -- The federal Justice Department says it will stay all
charges of marijuana possession on Prince Edward Island involving less than
30 grams until the law is clarified.

Recently, a judge in Summerside, P.E.I., stayed a marijuana charge on
grounds that rulings in Ontario have raised doubts about federal marijuana
laws.

The Crown is appealing that ruling on the Island, but a date has not been set.

In the meantime, prosecutors have begun staying other charges. One case
occurred in Charlottetown on Monday.

Three others were stayed last week in Summerside.

Justice officials insist that doesn't mean the charges are being dropped.

Staying a charge still allows them to reactivate it within a year,
depending on what happens with the appeal.

SENATE PANEL OKS MARIJUANA MEASURE

Bill Would Ease Penalty For Medicinal Use Of Drug

A measure that would lessen the penalty for sick people found with
marijuana if they can prove they possessed it for medical reasons eked out
a key Senate committee victory yesterday.

The bill, approved 6-5 by the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee, stops
far short of legalizing marijuana for those who contend they need it, but
it allows a judge to impose just a $100 fine if it is shown the drug is a
medical necessity. It is similar to a bill approved this week by the House
of Delegates.

The House passed similar legislation last year, but it failed in the Senate
committee that gave its approval yesterday. The bill still needs approval
from a second Senate committee, where half of its members were co-sponsors
of the original measure.

REEFER MAD MAN

James McDonough is fuming. McDonough, Florida's first drug czar, is
sitting on a makeshift dais in a ballroom of the Orlando Renaissance
Hotel March 14 as part of a three-member panel convened for a
town-hall meeting on substance-abuse policy. The panel was put
together by groups for and against relaxing drug laws. McDonough,
though, is clearly tired of answering questions from the former.

STATES CONSIDER LIGHTER MARIJUANA LAWS

Whether bowing to public opinion or considering cost-cutting in light of
budget deficits, some states are considering slackening their marijuana laws.

Six state legislatures are working on bills to decriminalize marijuana, and
14 states are reviewing proposals to legalize medical marijuana.

In Maryland, a bill passed the House of Delegates that would legalize
medical marijuana. Bruce Mirken, director of communications for the
Marijuana Policy Project, said the bill is slightly different from the one
his organization advocated.

"This bill stipulates that if you're arrested, you can present evidence
that you're a medical marijuana user, and if that evidence is persuasive,
you can avoid jail time and get off with a fine of not more than a hundred
dollars," Mirken said. "That doesn't spare medical users the unpleasantness
of going to court or the cost of hiring an attorney."

RETOOL THE POT LAW

If you're convicted of possessing less than an ounce of marijuana, you will
be punished with a $100 fine. But it will have cost the county at least
$4,500 in court fees to obtain the guilty verdict. This system is
definitely askew.

Adjudicating marijuana offenses has become the bane of a judicial system
that is routinely overrun with criminal cases that are more heinous and
warrant far more attention.

Minor marijuana possession is a misdemeanor. Ordinarily, a misdemeanor is
punishable by a $1,000 fine or six months in jail, but for small-time
marijuana possession, the law stipulates no jail time and just a $100 fine
- -- the same penalty meted out for infractions.

IMMIGRATION HEARING HALTED AFTER THREE DAYS

An immigration hearing for U.S. pot activist Steve Kubby was halted
suddenly last week when Kubby fell ill after only three days of
testimony in Vancouver.

Kubby was admitted to St. Mary's Hospital in Sechelt over the weekend
with a 102-degree temperature and double pneumonia. He was allowed to

LIVES, BLOOD THE MEASURING STICK OF THAILAND'S DRUG WAR

Some Say Campaign Symbol Of Brutality, Police Corruption

BANGKOK - Thanom Monta and his wife, Kwanla Puangchompu, learned they were
on a government blacklist of suspected drug dealers when they received a
letter ordering them to report to police.

On Feb. 26, they rode their motorbike to a police station in the central
city of Phetchabun. They were allowed to leave at 3 p.m., but before they
had driven two miles, a car pulled alongside them and men inside opened
fire. Both Thanom, 53, and Kwanla, 40, were killed.

With their deaths, the couple became part of Thailand's grisly success in
its new war against drugs.

Officials report that at least 1,498 people have died since Feb.

PRESIDENT TO NOMINATE 1ST WOMAN AS DRUG CZAR

President Bush yesterday announced his intention to nominate Karen P.
Tandy, head of the Justice Department's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement
Task Force, as the new chief of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

If confirmed by the Senate, she would be the first woman ever to head the
anti-drug agency.

A veteran prosecutor, she would replace acting administrator John B. Brown
III, a longtime drug agent who was named in January to succeed former Rep.
Asa Hutchinson. The Arkansas Republican had left the agency to become
undersecretary for border and transportation security at the new Department
of Homeland Security.

In his announcement, Mr. Bush noted that Mrs. Tandy, a deputy associate
attorney general, had previously served as both chief of litigation in the
Justice Department's asset-forfeiture office and as deputy chief for
narcotics and dangerous drugs.

CONGRESS COMES AFTER A FEDERAL JUDGE

Congress is coming after a federal judge in Minnesota who, it asserts, has
let drug offenders off too easily, triggering a tug-of-war over the
independence of the judiciary.

One side is pulling to retain discretionary power on the bench. The other
is yanking for more oversight.

At issue is an effort by Congress to subpoena U.S. District Judge James
Rosenbaum's records on drug cases over the last four years.

In an unprecedented and controversial move that has judges nationwide
expressing concern, the House Judiciary Committee has threatened to issue
subpoenas for records relating to Rosenbaum's sentencing decisions, and has
requested a federal review of the entire Minnesota federal bench as part of
a broader inquiry into drug sentencing.

AGENT IN TULIA CASE ADMITS ERRORS IN FOUR OTHER BUSTS

TULIA -- Tom Coleman, the lone undercover agent in the controversial 1999
drug sting operation in Tulia, stood by his actions Thursday in an
evidentiary hearing ordered by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.

"My cases are not questionable," he said. "I stand by what I did."

A short time later, though, Coleman testified that there were discrepancies
in other cases in which he made drug buys, including one that was tossed
out after a woman proved she was in Oklahoma at the time Coleman said he
bought drugs from her.

"There are some mess-ups in four cases," Coleman testified.

Coleman had a one-word "Yes" for defense attorney Mitchell Zamoff when
Zamoff said, "Really, but for your word, there's no evidence in any of
these cases that these buys took place."

SHERIFF GUARDED TULIA DRUG AGENT'S IDENTITY

Sheriff Says He Also Heard Agent Use Racial Epithet

TULIA -- Swisher County Sheriff Larry Stewart testified Wednesday that he
twice requested the sealing of a state agency file on Tom Coleman, the
undercover drug agent at the center of controversial 1999 drug cases in Tulia.

The testimony is part of a hearing in the cases of four defendants, in
which the court is trying to determine whether the state failed to turn
over information about Coleman's background that could have impeached his
testimony.

Stewart testified he wrote letters in April 1998 and February 1999 to the
Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education in an
effort to protect Coleman's identity.

WITNESS CITES PROBLEMS WITH UNDERCOVER OFFICER

TULIA - Lt. Mike Amos, with a narcotics task force in Amarillo that
worked in conjunction with Swisher County officials to oversee a now
infamous drug bust in 1999, testified Tuesday that the lone undercover
officer in the case had a bad temper, discipline problems and was
reprimanded after using a racial slur against blacks.

Since the massive drug sting that resulted in the arrests of 46
people, 39 of them black, undercover officer Tom Coleman's credibility
has come under attack.

Amos, the only witness to testify in evidentiary hearings Tuesday,
said he once reprimanded Coleman, who is white, after Coleman used the
derogatory word.

"I told him there's a time and place for that language," Amos
said.

OFFICER'S CREDIBILITY ATTACKED IN TULIA CASE

TULIA - Tom Coleman, the controversial undercover officer who made drug
cases against 46 people here in 1999, testified Friday he wasn't prejudiced
and considered it an acceptable greeting to use a derogatory word to
describe blacks. When asked if the word was a term of racial prejudice,
Coleman said, "It might not be OK."

Coleman's former wife said in a sworn statement that Coleman was a
card-carrying member of the Ku Klux Klan. She said Coleman was "openly
prejudiced" against blacks and Hispanics.

Coleman said Friday he is not prejudiced.
His credibility has come under attack by civil rights groups.

During his undercover operation, Coleman worked alone and with no audio or
video surveillance.

COLLEAGUES BLAST EX-TULIA DRUG COP

TULIA -- A former undercover agent whose testimony was used to convict four
defendants in the 1999 Tulia drug busts was portrayed Monday as
untrustworthy, racist and prejudiced.

The testimony about Tom Coleman came from a district attorney and other law
enforcement officers as evidentiary hearings began for the four defendants
in Swisher County.

The convictions of the four men, whose sentences ranged from 20 to 90
years, were upheld on direct appeal.

However, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals last year asked the trial
court for clarification on whether the four -- Jason Jerome Williams,
Christopher Eugene Jackson, Freddie Brookins Jr. and Joe Moore -- were
convicted solely on Coleman's word.

The fatigue is a leftover from the opiate addiction,
quite common. It either passes in time or additional
ibo will generally clear it sooner. The artifacts of
the ibo treatment you are having are quite common,
harmless, they will pass - note that some people have
reported them months later. One person I know was
treated (for dope/meth), went back to dope after
treatment then after jail (and guess what, he found
out he wasn't addicted when withdrawal DID NOT HAPPEN,
he reported only one yucky day in jail) a couple
months later, reported the ibo coming on in Jail (once
he stopped using) to where he felt some "goodness" as
well as some visual artifacts.
The sleeplessness and brightness will pass, it is
harmless and quite common, so are a number of other
residual effects people sometimes have. I use to get
this phlegm production in my throat after a treatment
(lasted weeks/months) but now that I am not toxic it
doesn't happen any longer - it is a symptom of
detoxing (as in toxins being expelled).

Drink lots of fluids, eat natural foods (no junk),
fruit, veggies, vitamins... If it persists (fatigue)
or you just want to get it overwith (in my experience
most people will need 2nd+ treatment anyway) and do a
2nd (2/3rds as much ballpark dose), or sometimes a
small dose like 1-1.5 gm of Indra will clear it. Wait
longer (bout a month) for the fuller dose, you can do
the smaller dose in a week or so if you are
uncomfortable.  You sound good, do the "one day at a
time" thingie, heal, rest, ponder, do new stuff, don't
do old "stuff" and listen to the other little voice
inside (or the fellow on the other shoulder if you
like...). However, whatever; as long as you follow the
yellow brick road, put one foot in front of the other,
get suggestions and listen to them... you will do just
fine. If you want to "use" that is OK to, it will only
cause you that much more pain and take that much
longer <g>... (some of us had to learn our lessons the
hard way). You now have a choice.

> My sitter was brilliant and is with me until Monday
> to help me plan my new

As long as you "DO", if you need to "DO" something
else (ie you tried 12 steps but it doesn't work for
ya), then try something else - but don't just sit
there looking for the IT to come to you. Again, sounds
like you are on the right track. Do some kind of
exercise, something spiritual, good nutrition, some
kind of therapy/treatment/dealing with addiction,
follow some basic common recovery sense (keep away
from people, places, things...) and GET OUT OF YOUR
OWN WAY, give it time, the ibo will work in you for
months after treatment. If you find yourself making
smoke in your head, STOP (as in sitting there spinning
your wheels in your head but going nowhere - you will
go somewhere alright...), do something else/change the
subject, pick up the phone, do some exercise,
SOMETHING... it is a dangerous place to be.

Please note that a re-treat/booster will be very
different than your first experience so long as you
are not using/addicted.

Richard,

Your condition of not sleeping for 5 days in on the far end of the normal
spectrum.  If you are still not sleeping I think that any doctor would
provide you with a sedative.  It is amazing how much better anyone would feel
getting some sleep after five days of not sleeping.

Did you take purified ibogaine HCl or indra or other extract?  And what dose?

If you feel at risk in taking a sedative that is of course your decision but,
in any other context of ethical medical care I cannot imagine that you would
not be rxd a sedative.  Any sedative will do.  It is amazing what one night
of sleep will do for your general well being.

For whut it's worth, if you can't sleep -- and are trying to avoid benzos
-- something that usually works for me is sublingual melatonin.  None of
the herbal remedies, ever remedy much of anything in my case, and 5-HTP
duz nuthin'

Another over the counter thingie that actually does work is doxylamine
succinate.  Most "sleep aids" are Benadryl (diphenhydramine) -- which,
also, unfortunately, does absolutely nothing, for me anyway -- but you can
still find doxylamine succinate in sum' of 'em.  I think the original
Unisom is doxy.

I have perpetual problems with sleeping.  I'm manic-depressive and cycle
very fast; making it to sleep before 4am is nearly impossible.  But if I
do 12-15mg sublingual melatonin mixed with 75-125mg doxylamine succinate,
it will usually knock me out (I'm 6'2" 210lbs).

The melatonin I do every night, the doxy is sumthin' to toss in when
you're still not going out.  And yeah, I can relate.  Not being able to
sleep for days at a time, is incredibly annoying.

The melatonin I'd suggest using on a regular basis, it's highly cool and
works.

The doxy is something to toss into the mix when the melatonin isn't
working by itself.  It's pretty interesting, because it's the only
over-the-counter nonaddictive "sleep aid" that has ever worked for me.
Ambien -- and, basically, anything that's not a benzo -- also does
absolutely nothing for me.

Doxy appears to work for most of the other people I know who have major
sleep problems -- related to stepping off heroin, or just in general.

laters,
Patrick

Randy, was it only the valerian that had this effect on you? I'm trying to figure out (based on your message) if the sweats were a product of the valerian itself or of an induced/forced sleep when as you say it may not have been needed?

Of course there may be any number of factors here...

Has anyone else on this list encountered the same?

I'm curious because I'm going to consult with a chinese herbalist who may be interested in developing some kind of herbal tincture to aid in both the period before the ibo and after. I'm looking for a combo which is non-contraindicated with Ibo, aids in relaxation and perhaps even helps with sleep. The process has not yet begun and I'd be interested to know what you all think and/or have tried.

Thanks,

Sandra

I remember the melatonin from the SF talks. That's the one thing you,
Mash and Dana all mentioned and agreed on ;-)

You were all right too bro, gets you a better buzz and helps you fall
asleep :-)

I'm on 9mg a night. Started at 3 and went up from there. Going more then
9 doesnt have any effect I can see on me. But melatonin is great.

The doxyalamine is something you reminded me of that I forgot before
just now. That is like a weird piece of jail knowledge that comes up
and then everyone forgets it. In california they used to give it to you
if you were in withdrawal then they switched to something else which
doesnt work anymore and everyone noticed that. I learned about doxyalamine
at the needle exchange years ago and it does work bro :-) Helped me a
lot and so did pot like Randy said. Was not taking melatonin back then.

What helped the most was pot :-)

Peace out,
Curtis

Thanks for this Sandy and thanks to you Patrick, much love bro. I sometimes
forget that you really believe in the lights, I do not mean that I don't,
I do, but not like I can directly use them to stay clean or something
like you do. I think aside from being a little overwrought about things,
I forgot what some here reminded me. It is all a play or movie, I was
very upset though because I am an american, I do care about people and
where I live and what's happened here in the last days is very not good.

I still don't know which way to go, are demonstrations worth it, do I
vote against someone or for someone, but the shock has passed and I've
calmed down. I just can't believe how far downhill we've gone in only
a little more then 2 years. Everything that's happening is awful.

I think what I mean is I was looking at the TV and thinking shit the
world is ending, while some of you are looking inside and going, no it's
not. Maybe I need to work on that part more.

Peace out,

Sandra,

Without any real science to go by - I don't think it was the Valerian root that made me sweat.  I think it had more to with the readjusting to being opiate free.

A semi funny tid bit:  Years ago after one of my first detoxes (a non ibo detox, I have only done ibo once and have been clean since.)  I would have the same experience with the valerian root.  I was explaining to my friend how I took the valerian root to get some sleep.  He thought I was saying that I took the valerian ROUTE to get to sleep and that that route must have been some abstract mental path.  It was when I explained further, that the bottle said to take just one capsule but since I am Randolph I of course take two, that my friend understood.

Peace,
Randy

Please subscribe to new MMM email list. Public archive still open.

The public MMM email list at Yahoo Groups now requires people to subscribe
in order to post messages to the list and the public archive. For a few
weeks I set it up so that non-members could also send in email messages to
the list. That was to help people send in MMM rally reports. It worked.
The archive also got some spam too. That was deleted. But people should
keep sending in MMM-related stuff. Just subscribe first.

The MMM message archive itself is still public and accessible to anybody:

*MMM (Million Marijuana March) and Global Cannabis Action. Marches and

reform events are covered, too. Email list public archive for event info,
ideas, MMM 2002 rally reports, photo attachments, links, HTML web pages,

continually-revised, compilation of MMM 2003 cities, contacts, and rally

there are links to archived messages, and to web pages with even more MMM
