Cures Not Wars of Michigan
Presents
DETROIT IBO-EXPO -The Ibogaine
Exposition
I have expertise in the subject of drug treatment with
the substance Ibogaine and organic extracts of Iboga, that being the
plant species Tabernathe Iboga. These substances have been successful
for treatment of acute addiction to cocaine and it's derivatives,
opiates, pharmaceuticals, methadone, alcohol, and nicotine. It is
effective on individual as well as multiple addictions in the same
treatment procedure.
The action of Ibogaine is to return the addict's brain
chemistry to the pre-addicted state. As such it can be accurately
explained as an antidote to drug addiction. NIDA (National Institute
of Drug Abuse) has already investigated its efficacy and approved it
as a "Poly-Drug Addiction Interrupter." No other substance
investigated by them qualifies for this remarkable title. The reason
behind this is the fact that Ibogaine is not a maintenance drug but a
corrective treatment for addiction that does not require many regular
doses. Ibogaine treatment is currently in FDA (Food & Drug
Administration) approval trials, however, it is being shunned by drug
companies as not profitable and as competition to their less effective
products. Drugs that they are heavily invested in and reap tremendous
profits from. Instead of finishing up ibogaine approval trials, FDA
and NIDA approval processes have been clogged with their maintenance
pharmaceuticals. The result of this corporate resistance is that the
FDA approval process has been very slow and under-funded.
To illustrate the reality and potential of Ibogaine, I
intend to present my findings to the City of Detroit in late September
and want you to attend or have someone in your staff attend. I will
present scientific data, living proof and the sociological
implications of this treatment. The main focus will be to appeal to
the city government of Detroit to both call for expedited funding and
finishing of the FDA approval and the creation of an Ibogaine
treatment center to serve the Detroit area. An area that has been
ravaged by a drug addiction problem that is much too great for any
relief through the law enforcement approach nor the slow process of
currently employed drug addiction treatments. This possible treatment
center would be located in Windsor, Canada where the are no legal
impediments to the use of this treatment so that a model can be
created for clinics to be located in the Detroit.
This conference, titled IBO-EXPO, will have a panel
consisting of experts from the drug treatment community, an Ibogaine
treatment advocate, a former addict who had the treatment many years
ago who will describe the treatment experience, relations of a patient
from Detroit who has recently completed treatment, former addicts from
Michigan who have completed treatment and myself as moderator. There
will be a set of questioners representing Detroit city government,
local drug treatment and aftercare facilities, religious leaders,
minority community leaders and drug treatment reform activists. This
is where I would like to include your participation. The floor will
also be opened for comments and questions from the audience. A press
conference will be called for the following Monday afternoon.
I have a list of possible dates for this conference.
Please check these dates against your schedule and advise me on which
date(s) you or your staff member can attend. This will be my primary
factor in deciding the actual date of this event. The whole
presentation will be videotaped, but I would prefer to have input and
inquiry from you. If there is no way you, or your staff, can attend I
would be pleased to accept a written inquiry which can be read on your
behalf. It would be a benefit to you for your constituents, who will
be in the audience, to know you have given this issue some thought. In
any case I will have written and video documentation delivered to your
office afterward.
The possible dates are:
Friday, Sept. 27
Saturday, Sept. 28
Sunday, Sept. 29
Thank you for your attention,

Pro-cannabis groups gather for annual rally on Common
by Marie Szaniszlo
Sunday, September 15, 2002
Dozens of people were arrested yesterday as a crowd of more than
35,000 gathered for the annual pot rally on Boston Common.
By 5 p.m., police had arrested 50 people, mostly for drug
possession, processing them at a tent set up on the park's
perimeter.
Although cannabis was ubiquitous at the 13th annual ``Freedom
Rally,'' it was confined largely to posters, T-shirts and hemp bags,
as dozens of uniformed and plainclothes officers milled around.
Three years ago, a 19-year-old New Hampshire man who was about to
be booked for marijuana possession pulled a fully loaded 9mm pistol
out of his pocket, but an officer lunged forward in time to jam his
finger in the trigger guard.
Organizers called the incident ``extremely atypical,'' and spoke
wistfully yesterday about more ``enlightened'' cities such as Santa
Cruz, Calif., which licensed a growers' facility that eventually was
raided by federal authorities.
``In a free society, the use of an herb like marijuana or tobacco
should be regulated, not prohibited,'' said Steven Epstein of
Marblehead. ``There are people who use marijuana irresponsibly, but
even they don't present anywhere near the same danger as a chronic
alcoholic.''
Epstein defines irresponsible users as people who can't hold a
job or maintain at least a C- average in school, but believes anyone
old enough to serve in the military should be allowed to smoke
weed.
Jon Holmes, 54, of Allston said he occasionally uses marijuana,
but hopes his 14-year-old son won't, at least until he's older.
``I think it's an adult thing,'' said Holmes, a bespectacled man
wearing a tie-dyed ``Just Say Know'' T-shirt quoting such
pro-decriminalization people as New York Post editor Pete Hamill and
former President Carter. ``Once you're an old guy like me, what
difference does it make if you shuffle off into the sunset with a
joint?''
R. Keith Stroup, the 58-year-old founder and executive director
of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws urged
``mainstream, middle-class marijuana-smokers'' to come out of the
closet.
``The vast majority are good, hard-working people, not criminals,
yet we are needlessly destroying their lives and careers,'' said
Stroup, who jokingly refers to himself as the world's oldest living
marijuana user. ``The government has no business telling us what we
can do in the privacy of our homes. It's none of their damn
business.''

RE: MARIVUANA STOUT LEINOFF
Announcing Candidacy for GOVERNOR of TN
Nashville, Tennessee - I,
Marivuana Stout Leinoff, am last in announcing my independent
candidacy for governor of Tennessee. I am representing every
child in the public school system in Tennessee that is last in
education. Also, I am running for governor as a result of
the domestic violence in my life.
First, I learned to depend on me. Not
the police, not my neighbors, not my parents, Iâve never had any
friends, not my brothers and sisters, not the church across the street
from my home. No one helped me; I helped myself.
And, I did it. I live in freedom now,
not feardom. I am alive and I am educated, but my heart
hurts for all the children who have lost their innocence to so many
different acts of violence, and do not have the ability to depend on
themselves and overcome. This can only come with
education.
Domestic violence victims live in terror every
day. They understand terrorism in a personal way. There is
no president of the U. S. of America coming to their aide to fight the
terrorism in their lives. There is no celebrity to do a benefit
to ease expenses, or to find them a safe place to live. There is
no one to help heal the broken hearts or help with their
homework.
But, there are always drugs (legal or illegal)
to make a person feel better. Drugs are taken for one reason,
even in suicide; people take drugs to feel better. It maybe sad,
but it is not criminal.
In Tennessee, voters cannot put a referendum
on the ballot, as voters can in most other states. This election
provides Tennesseanâs a chance to tell their government:
ãThe drug war has gone to far, we need reform!ä Why
marihuana and hemp law reform? Because bad laws have never
worked! Such as: slavery, alcohol prohibition, illegal
abortions, and women unable to vote. When enough people speak
out BAD LAWS CAN BE CHANGED. I propose an amendment to the
Tennessee state constitution allowing for referendums, which would
enable the people of Tennessee to govern.
Education is the only solution this state -
this nation has of helping itself. Not just in academics, but
realizing we are not alone on this planet and every human being and
everything (including marihuana and hemp) matters.
This nation in its infinite wisdom has all the
money and resources it needs to bomb any country that threatens
it,
But, here in Nashville, TN, Home of the Grand
Olâ Opry,
The last major stronghold to surrender at the
Civil War,
Where Wilson County is the 7th richest county
in the U.S.,
Where Tennessee is a major source of funding
for the Republican Party
Home of the New Coliseum and the Tennessee
Titans,
The Bicentennial Mall, The New Farmers
Market,
The Gaylord Entertainment Center, The New
Super Speedway,
Tennessee is proud to be 50th in
Education. Tennesseanâs are last in
education.
I dropped out of high school. I earned a
GED at 27, and a BBA at 32. We, the uneducated, beat down,
over-taxed are proclaiming with our heads held high, our backs are
burdened, our hearts full of pain, we arenât going to take it any
more.
We are a force to be dealt with ö we will
educate (home schooling, if necessary) and govern ourselves as the
Constitution of the United States of America intended. I trust
my education not to the government, but myself. Education
enabled me to find a way to change my life and to survive 25 years of
domestic violence.
Our prisons are the U.S. monuments to this
nations failure to a quality life for all of our children.
Every person in prison is a motherâs child for some reason went
astray. I am here to tell you, this nation has let every mother
and father down.
The consciousness of the government is to
exist at all costs, but it is really up to the people to enable it.
The best way for the government to exist is thru education where
ãeveryoneä is thriving in their own way ö
contributing.
I am who I am today, because of a strong will
to survive. And, I am able to have fun and live my life in
freedom as I choose.
If your over eighteen and
ready for a real change, VOTE
Marivuana Stout Leinoff for Governor of
Tennessee.
The citizens of Tennessee
deserve, require and demand education and freedom.
Marivuana Stout Leinoff is an accountant and a
graduate of Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Marivuana is
married to Howard Leinoff and is the mother of two children, and the
grandmother of two. Marivuana, a native of Arkansas, is a
fifteen year resident of Tennessee. Marivuana is a minister of

CANDIDATE THOMPSON COURTS STUDENTS
Madison - Although he attended college for only a year,
gubernatorial
candidate Ed Thompson believes his lack of old-school political ties
will
help him appeal to the 150,000 students in the University of Wisconsin
System.
"Students are fresh and aren't bogged down with a lot of old
ideas. They
are open for something new, something different, someone who addresses
them
truthfully. They're idealistic, and I guess I am, too," Thompson
said
Saturday after speaking to about 200 delegates of the United Council
of UW
Students.
The Libertarian candidate told students he was taking a page from
Minnesota
Gov. Jesse Ventura's successful third-party campaign book by
targeting
students and others who typically vote in a lower percentage than
the
population as a whole.
"After (Ventura) won, I asked, 'Jesse, how did you do it?' And he
said,
'College students; college students were very key for me and the
huge
percentage of people who didn't vote at all,' " Thompson
said.

Title: Marijuana Club Owner Charged In Federal Court
Author: Jeremy Hay
Source: The Press Democrat
Contact: letters@...
Website: http://www.pressdemo.com/
Pubdate: Saturday, September 14, 2002
The owner of a Petaluma marijuana club was arraigned Friday on
drug
charges that carry a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Robert Schmidt, 52, was arrested Thursday by federal agents who raided
a
ranch near Sebastopol where he had been growing marijuana since
March.
He was arraigned in U.S. District Court in San Francisco on charges
of
manufacturing and possessing marijuana with intent to distribute,
and
assaulting a federal agent.
The maximum penalty for the drug charges is life in prison and a
$4
million fine; the assault charge carries a maximum sentence of three
years
plus a $250,000 fine, Assistant U.S. Attorney Mathew Jacobs said in
a
statement Friday.
He said U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents seized 3,454
marijuana
plants from the Martin Lane ranch west of Sebastopol.
Several others questioned at the ranch told agents that Schmidt had
hired
them to guard the crop, which one DEA agent estimated to be worth
nearly
$2 million.
Neighbors said authorities told them that Schmidt had been under
investigation for more than a year.
Schmidt is the owner of Genesis 1:29, a marijuana buyers club named
for a
Bible verse about God providing herb-bearing seeds.
Supporters said Schmidt was growing cannabis for nearly 800 members of
his
club as well as for other clubs that opened in the Bay Area after
voters
approved a 1996 initiative allowing marijuana use for medical
reasons.
Federal law doesn't recognize any legal use of marijuana. Medical
marijuana advocates say stepped-up DEA enforcement efforts are
misfocused.
"The DEA is needed to help fight the war on terrorism," said
Ernest "Doc"
Knapp, spokesman for the Sonoma Alliance for Medical Marijuana.
"When they
devote such huge resources to going after sick and dying people,
what does
it say about them?"
Marijuana plants and computer equipment also were seized from the
Petaluma
club, located in a business park on South Point Boulevard.
Calls to the club seeking comment weren't returned Friday. An
answering
machine message said: "We are closed due to the DEA overriding
state law
on the 12th of September."
Schmidt is next scheduled to appear in court Sept. 18.

FEDS POSE CHALLENGE TO USE OF MEDICAL MARIJUANA
BREMERTON - When Monte Levine and Marc Derenzy planted marijuana in

All they wanted, they said, was to quietly grow enough pot to help

The four men say they never expected to get a letter last month from
the
office of U.S. Attorney John McKay in Seattle promising federal
prosecution, no matter how much pot they have.
"I'm afraid of going to prison; I don't want to die in prison,"
said Wines,
his face gaunt from disease. "I don't think I deserve to die in

because I smoke pot because I'm sick.

NPA CANDIDATE FIGHTS STIGMA OF COUP D'ETAT
The defining moment of this year's Vancouver civic election campaign
might
have occurred six months ago on March 8. That was the day the
Vancouver Sun
carried a front-page, above-the-fold story with the following
headline:
"Jennifer Clarke's 'coup d'etat': Observers say NPA move to force
out mayor
may backfire". The story helped fuel an impression that Civic
Non-Partisan
Association Mayor Philip Owen's long-time colleague, NPA Coun.
Jennifer
Clarke, secretly plotted a takeover.
Political consultants often advise candidates to craft a believable
message
and reinforce it over the course of an election campaign. In 1996,
provincial NDP leader Glen Clark cleverly portrayed himself as the
tough
little guy who was "On Your Side" against the corporations'
favourite
candidate, Gordon Campbell. The message resonated with the electorate,
and
the NDP pulled off a stunning upset.

The comments of Rumsfeld and the rest of the chickenhawks--those who
have
never seen war but are itching to let other people's sons and

been
getting curiouser and curiouser.
Now Rumsfeld says that the "only way" to make sure that Iraq
could not in
some future time become a threat--since it is not now--is to get rid
of
Hussein and therefore go to war. And they want the Senate and
Congress to
sign off on a resolution that gives Bush "maximum flexibility"
to use
force unilaterally (although now Rumsfeld is fibbing about secret
help
from allies that they can't say publicly because they are
"afraid" of
Hussein! When will the lies end!). He has the gall to link
our
intelligence failures on 9/11 to a preemptive strike on Iraq.
But the
equation makes no sense. Iraq and Hussein are _secular_ and have
nothing
to do with al Quida. There is no evidence of anything and
Rumsfeld makes
the insanely Orwellian claim that you can't wait for evidence!
Well, then
just pick a country and bomb !!! And now that it is coming out
that not
only is this proposed war immoral, destabilizing and makes us at

Dear MSNBC,
I cannot watch your news any more because of all the propaganda--do
we
live in a Communist country or Nazi Germany where the government
controls
the media?
I just looked a Lester Holt live and he is interviewing someone
supposedly
neutral about the economy who is just spinning and spinning for
Bush--e.g., "the tax cuts helped push out of recession Bush
inherited"--BULL! The tax cuts are what are making us go into a
second dip
of this recession!
Yesterday, I forget the show, someone is hosting that is acting like
Bush
is making any sort of sense with his crazy rush to war. A
"preventatve

they've
capitulated in terms of weapons inspections and we dismiss it! The
only
explanation is that we are bullies and we want their oil. Any person
with
common sense can see this. But I and everyone else has to be bombarded
by
government propaganda as if it was truly objective.
Please be objective and if anyting _critical_ of Bush--this should be
the
role of media. Oh I know that you have your "liberal" shows

MASSIVE DRUG SEIZURE IN COLOMBIA
Colombian troops have seized four tonnes of cocaine worth $120m on
the
country's Pacific coast.
A naval patrol vessel bristling with marines found the drugs,
vacuum-packed and ready to be shipped to the United States, on a
boat
moored up against a river bank in the dense jungle at Cabo

480km (300 miles) south-west of the capital, Bogota.
The authorities said the cocaine belonged to the right-wing

Earlier this week the AUC insisted it had cut all ties to the

PLANT EYED AS TREATMENT FOR SPEED ADDICTS
Senate Mulls Lifting Of Ban On 'Krathom'
Asenate committee is visiting the South to study a proposal to remove
the
stimulant plant krathom from the government's list of banned
substances,
enabling it to be used in the treatment of methamphetamine
addicts.
The proposal to introduce krathom as a methamphetamine substitute was
put
forward by politicians after research in Japan and Australia found it
could
be used in place of morphine during surgery, said Pinya Chuayplod,
panel
chairman.
"If other countries turn krathom into a valuable asset, who will
take
responsibility for the loss to the nation?" he asked.
After completing its studies, the panel planned to push for law
amendments
removing the plant from the list of banned substances.
"If the government refuses, we will submit a petition in support
of the law
amendments," Mr Pinya said. "We should be able to get the
required 50,000
signatures in the South alone."

Dana,
What are you talking
about? What military wing? What does this mean? And, another thing. Do
you Really Believe that "Ibogaine, if sufficiently
publicized--will simply cause everyone to switch sides?" Sorry, I
don't buy it. It is only one topic of discussion amongst an endless
variety of topics that revolve in, around, and about the DrugWar.
It is one avenue to something, probably a bit different for each who
tries it, but I tend to think it's not for everyone, nor will it,
if sufficiently publicized, do much more than alert folk to yet
another tool they can use however they will to attempt to gain some
sort of something or other, be it enlightenment, temporary relief from
icky withdrawals, change in perspective be it temporary or not,
whatever.
I think Andria's point
Dana was that as this is a list primarily devoted to the topic of
Ibogaine, perhaps her questions were more suitable for the Drugwar@mindvox list instead of
here. It isn't a military wing, if that is what yer referring
to.

What I was saying was: before you set up the military wing of
anything, why not explore things that were conceived as alternatives
to "military wings" of movements, which in 1980 when we
started the Ibogaine Project had just happened or were still
happening. The BLA Brinks bust wasn't until '81--and snagged Mtulu
Shakur, the Father of accupuncture for De-tox in the U.S. for
addiction, among others. Remember Lincoln Drug Free De-tox? Ernie
Drucker is still quite hostile because of that; check the IBOGAINE
STORY for details, but it explains a lot about DPA's refusal to deal
with Ibogaine.
All those guys are still in jail. I'm supposed to send a book to
the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility. But Ibogaine was conceived as
a different way to accomplish the same thing as the Panthers shutting
down heroin in Harlem--to subtract the junky from the bottom of the
heroin pyramid, the one irreplaceable factor in the junk
equation.
Ibogaine, if successful, causes people to switch sides in a very
real way. And people around them are affected in concentric circles.
Kind of like "facts on the ground" in the West Bank. When it
gets to a certain critical mass, the shift occurs to next phase of the
process.
At the time, the inspiration came from an insight gleaned from a
PK Dick book entitled "Now Wait for Last Year," about an
Iboga or harmala-like drug that causes users to travel in
time--backwards in time for most people, who try and change their
lives only to have the changes disappear when they return to the
present, but in a few cases forward in time in the case of the
protagonist , and for the main character Molinari, sideways into
alternative timelines. And this is the basis for the story, because
Molinari is Secretary General of the UN in an interstellar war between
the Nazi humanoids from Lilystar and the communistic cockroachlike
Reegs, and he's gotten Earth in on the wrong side. The Lilystarians
are pressing him to send 6 million humans to slavelabor factories on
Lilystar, while backstage negotiations are taking place with the Reegs
for Earth to change sides, like Italy in WW II. To deal with this,
Molinari is buying time by dying, replacing himself with an
alternative Molinari from a nearby timeline, and then dying
again..
So this gave rise to the insight-- in the future, entire
interstellar wars may be decided by injection of a psychedelic gas
into the atmospheres of certain planets, which will cause whole
populations to SWITCH SIDES over night. And then in researching for
the book, I encountered the sensibility in VALIS that the only
worthwhile change is accomplished one person at a time anyway.
Military means are to crude, to blunt, to conducive to unacceptable
collateral damage.
But I have seen the effect of whole populations changing sides
because of a psychedelic with LSD, when a generation turned against
the establishment because they could not understand why a government
would ban something so obviously neat. And the folks around Bush
remember LSD as well. Keep that in mind. In this post-Reichstag-fire
atmosphere when any dissent or even its potential is considered an
unacceptable risk to the requisite national unity necessary to fight
this endless war, Ibogaine is under suspicion.

Please subscribe to new MMM email list. Public archive still
open.
The public MMM email list at Yahoo Groups now requires people to
subscribe
in order to post messages to the list and the public archive. For
a few
weeks I set it up so that non-members could also send in email
messages to
the list. That was to help people send in MMM rally reports. It
worked.
The archive also got some spam too. That was deleted. But people
should
keep sending in MMM-related stuff. Just subscribe first.
The MMM message archive itself is still public and accessible to
anybody:
