you can see, there is a little controversy over
whether all the events are just NORML and you should
just list the one URL, or not...please read the below

appropriate.

Jesse

Hi further to my email to you yesterday, I can confirm
that the
city of Levin (near Wellington, New Zealand) will now
be holding an
event. The contact details are:
Presented by Levin NORML, ph 06-368-8181, email

Also:
Dunedin: presented by Dunedin NORML, ph 025 719139,

Other places are still to get back to me.

Re: NZ contact query.

I had written on two prior occasions to Dana directly
to please update
the information for Christchurch.
NZ NORML, is respectfully, taking one or two liberties
here.. as it was
yours truly that while not a member of NORML, I
brought many of  the
individual contacts together when networking was
dependent on other
factors and interests.

I am not going to beef about this, it is unwarranted
when we are all
for
the common cause, but I should be concerned that
having worked hard on
promoting the unity of spirit that for reasons of not
being a NORML
affiliate, I had been excluded from the internal
"whets happening"  -
and thus negating, perhaps inadvertently, the essence
of what I have
brought to the table.

I should be concerned if it was suggested otherwise.

Please amend to contact details for Christchurch to
read, Mild Green
Initiatives  ph: (643) 389-4065
mailto:blair@...
http://mildgreens.com

I have written separately about the long history of
NZ's use of mayday,
predating MMM/Cure-not-Wars. and while NORML is
facilitating events in
some centres it is not exclusive,  and nor should it
be.

(not withstanding that I have just noticed that two of
the three city
links on mildgreens MMM events promotional icons have
recently lost
there links.. Dana and others can confirm that the
writer has been
singularity focussed on delivering integrated and
inclusive media and
event promotion, across all vested interests.)

It is heartening to see this project growing so much
and seeing it
become increasingly better organised. Holding it over
the weekend,
rather than just one day.. makes for good growth
potentials, better
enables a community to take part, and further enhances
the need at
least
at a regional/country level to keep a strong
organisation element to
co-ordinating events for all to see.

NORML is but one element in delivering the activist
message, but its
close affiliation with the GREEN party and its
perception that it is
only for 'foot soldiers' limits the possibilities
within some
communities who would otherwise support drug peace
initiatives.

Just my 2cents worth!!

Hi

Christchurch is most definately hosting J Day, 2003.
Your contact here
is only partially correct. blair@... is

wb@... and jsax@... are NOT! However
- just to confuse
matters a bit - I am the NORML rep for Christchurch
and I will be
co-ordinating J Day here, so please include my contact

Please send posters, fliers, etc. to me, not Blair, as
I`m in charge of
getting them posted around the city.

Warmest regards,

Hi, nice to hear from you. I'm glad we appear to have
good
coordination! We're actually in a period of
reorganisation at the moment,
with some activists coming and going, and so not all
cities are confirmed.
All we can confirm at the moment is that events will
happen in
Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
Contact details for Auckland are: location Albert
Park. Organised by
Auckland NORML: norml@... , Ph 09 302-5255, Fax
09 303-1309,

As for the rest, I have asked the organisers to
confirm details with me
urgently, but given the uncertainty it may be a good
idea to put the
www.norml.org.nz website on all cities as we will list
the details on our
events page.
I'll let you know what the other details are as soon
as I have them.

Blunkett Hits Back As UN Blasts His Move To Downgrade Cannabis

David Blunkett hit back at critics last night after they accused him of
misleading youngsters with his new measures on cannabis.

A UN report claims the Home Secretary's decision to reclassify cannabis as a
Class C drug could lead to it becoming as widely used as tobacco.

Hamid Ghodse, of the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), said:
"Youngsters are confused. On one hand, you tell them not to use ecstasy
because it is dangerous. On the other, you're not doing anything about
cannabis."

But Mr Blunkett has stressed he is not decriminalising cannabis.

We could reach a lot of people!  Perhaps we'll have a bikini contest before.  The place gets packed during that time!

Thanks for contacting me. We will definitely be participating in the Kansas City march. Last year's march there was amazing, and we hope to bring out a lot more people from the Lawrence area this year.
We had considered doing a march in Lawrence, and like you suggested, we will probably have a rally the night before. Our school has approximately 25k students, so I don't think it would be unreasonable to expect anywhere from 50 to 100 students to attend.

My phone number is 785-979-8465, and I can be reached anytime today if you have any more questions.

Hows this?

I understand the adjustment to the definition of May Day, the first
Saturday of May since the Womans right to vote I believe. It was the
first Saturday when I went to my first May Day demonstrations against
Vietnam and the first MMM's. Accomendating the masses makes sense too,
but as far as I'm concerned, I posted the march for May 3rd at 4pm.
I'll add this post if anyone wants to show up on the 2nd or 4th they
can have at it. But officially we will have a march on May Day even if
I'm the only one attending it! 8)

Now you want me to sponsor Ma Bell for a contact number? Isn't it bad
enough I'm adding karma with this stupid puter mail? I'll have to get

How can I get info for getting an ibogaine clinic/temple started here?

OAKLAND POT CLUB CHIEF TO BE JAILED

Jeff Jones Sentenced

Oakland Cannabis Buyers Cooperative executive director Jeff Jones, one of
the California medical marijuana movement's most respected figures, was
sentenced Thursday to 90 days behind bars for handing out leaflets near a
courthouse.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Peter A. Nowinski of Sacramento apparently ignored a
report recommending probation, instead ordering Jones, 28, into federal
custody for the misdemeanor. He will start serving his time Monday.

"I plan on commencing a hunger strike as soon as I'm taken into custody,"
Jones said later Thursday. "This is political -- this has nothing to do with
the rule of law."

Jones' attorney, Michael B. Bigelow of Sacramento, said he "can't recall
ever having seen a judge as apparently angry as he was, and for the life of
me I don't understand why. I think everybody involved in the case --
probation, the U.S. Attorney's office, assorted staff -- pretty much assumed
that the magistrate would follow the probation officer's recommendation."

Jones was arrested outside Sacramento's federal courthouse last June 24, the
day jurors were being selected to try Bryan Epis of Chico. Epis later was
convicted of growing marijuana and now is serving a 10-year sentence.

Jones and other activists that day handed out a leaflet giving Epis' side of
the story: his belief that California's 1996 medical marijuana law --
Proposition 215 -- protected him, even though federal law still bans
marijuana completely. When U.S. District Judge Frank Damrell found some
potential jurors had received the leaflets, he agreed with prosecutors the
whole panel of potential jurors had been tainted and dismissed them all.

During a five-hour trial in December, Jones told Nowinski he had neither
authored the leaflet nor brought it to the courthouse that day, but
acknowledged he neither read it closely nor understood its impact before
handing it out. Nowinski convicted Jones of influencing a juror by writing,
a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in prison.

A probation report, noting Jones' acceptance of responsibility and remorse,
advised he be placed on supervised probation until paying restitution for
the cost of seating a new jury panel. Nowinski on Thursday ordered Jones to
pay $3,924.93 in restitution -- and also ordered him jailed.

"The feeling of the judge ... was that I had no remorse, that I was thumbing
my nose at the court and all I cared about was myself," Jones said. "If I
only cared about myself, I wouldn't have shown up at court for Bryan Epis."

It was unclear Thursday whether Jones can surrender himself Monday in
Oakland or if he must do so in Sacramento. Steph Sherer, director of the
medical marijuana group Americans for Safe Access, said activists will stage
a protest either way.

Under Jones' direction, the Oakland cooperative provided marijuana to
card-carrying members with physicians' recommendations. City officials in
1998 brought the group under a city ordinance's protection, but in a legal
battle that went to the U.S. Supreme Court, the federal government won an
injunction halting its marijuana dispensation. Meanwhile, the young,
earnest, clean-cut Jones became poster boy for the medical marijuana
movement, with none of the baggage some earlier and more controversial
figures carried.

"Jeff has been a backbone for Oakland and for the Bay Area, and his work has
really pushed the envelope of implementing Proposition 215," Sherer said.
"His political work with the city ... has definitely been a model for the
rest of the state."

CORALLES, One of Raiding Party that Shot Peron in '77, Indicted for Obstruction

District Attorney Terence Hallinan got more than he asked for when a grand jury returned its indictment of 10 cops, including the upper echelon of San Francisco's police department, sources within the district attorney's office said Friday.
Hallinan "felt like the bombardier on the Enola Gay" when he looked at the indictment prepared by the panel Thursday, one source said, referring to the U. S. plane that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima in World War II.
He thought, "Christ, look what we have just done!"
On Friday, as word of the indictment spread, the outlines of how the SFPD's top command came to be implicated in a case that began with three cops involved in a street fight began to emerge from interviews.
The answer appears to lie in a grand jury with a mind of its own.
According to sources familiar with the case, the district attorney's office,
represented by veteran career criminal prosecutor Al Murray and Hallinan himself, was seeking a more limited indictment when it began grand jury proceedings on Jan. 28.
"You just had a grand jury that ran away," one source said. "It can happen where you say, 'I would like to indict A and B for crimes 1, 2 and 3,' and the grand jury comes back and says, 'We also want to indict C, D, E and F on 4, 5 and 6,' "
Hallinan declined comment, and Murray could not be reached. But, according to one of the sources, Hallinan -- during opening and closing statements to jurors -- invited them to not sit passively as listeners but rather delve into the evidence as they wished.
One of the sources said Hallinan asked the jurors "to operate as investigators," and they apparently took him up on it.
"They asked hundreds of questions" and heard from 42 witnesses, one source said.
By the end, the grand jurors returned felony assault indictments against Officers Alex Fagan Jr., 23, son of Assistant Chief Alex Fagan Sr., Matthew Tonsing, 28, and David Lee, 23, and conspiracy to obstruct justice indictments against Chief Earl Sanders, second-in-command Fagan Sr., Deputy Chief Greg Suhr, Deputy Chief David Robinson, Capt. Greg Corrales, Lt. Ed Cota and Sgt. John Syme.
Fagan Jr., Tonsing and Lee are accused of beating up two men while off-duty outside a Union Street bar at about 2:30 a.m. Nov. 20, after a celebration at a restaurant several blocks away commemorating the promotion of Fagan Sr. to assistant chief.

The others are accused of impeding the police investigation of the alleged assault.
One grand juror who spoke on condition of anonymity said the jury, which was impaneled for four months and heard numerous cases, deliberated fairly in the police department case.
"It was made up of 19 very good citizens, an extremely diverse group," the juror said. "None of us took this lightly. We knew this would impact the city at all levels, it would impact all these people's lives and their family's lives. We knew there was a high threshold."

Of the decision, the juror said, "It had to do with the facts of the case. That's really what we judged the evidence on."
HALLINAN ON HOT SEAT

Next to Chief Sanders and the other nine indicted commanders and officers, the person most on the hot seat as a result of the grand jury's decision is Hallinan, the combative, two-term D.A. who has clashed with Mayor Willie Brown and the SFPD in the past and faces what is expected to be another tough re- election campaign this fall.
One prosecutor in the D.A.'s office said that when a grand jury expands the scope of a prosecution "the big issue is whether there is evidence to support it at trial." If not, the D.A. should dismiss what it can't prove, the prosecutor said.
But "as a practical matter," the prosecutor added, "you made the choice to go to the grand jury, and they decided your case for you."
However, another source familiar with the case said Hallinan became convinced that the grand jury got it right and that the transcript of the proceedings, when it becomes public, will bear him out.

According to the source, the jurors "got a lot more pissed off" about the conduct of the department's command staff than Hallinan himself ever did.

Hallinan had cited the department's alleged failure to thoroughly investigate as his reason for taking the matter to the grand jury.
As an alternative to taking the case to a grand jury, Hallinan simply could have filed criminal charges and taken the case before a judge who would decide at a preliminary hearing whether there was sufficient evidence to place the defendants on trial.
In a preliminary hearing, defense lawyers get the opportunity to cross- examine government witnesses. In a secret grand jury proceeding, no such cross- examination occurs.

POLITICALLY CHARGED CASE
Some legal observers said Hallinan had good reason to employ a grand jury rather than file charges directly in such a politically charged case.
"In political cases, there is a cleansing that goes on when you hand it to a grand jury of citizens and have them decide," San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi said. "Given the fact that prosecutors and police have such a close relationship, it would make sense to have this case go to the grand jury. "
Others questioned whether Hallinan jumped the gun in taking the case to the grand jury, however.
"Terence is a very impulsive guy," said Peter Keane, dean of Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, citing, among other things, scrapes the D.A. has gotten in with San Francisco judges over statements to the press.
"If nothing else, it should be great theater," Keane said. "My first reaction is Hallinan has bitten off a big chunk here, and he better be prepared to chew it and swallow it."

Grand juries have wide authority to act
This is how a criminal county grand jury works in San Francisco:
The grand jury is made up of 19 members from the community and typically meets twice a week for four months. The jurors are chosen by San Francisco's presiding judge. There are three grand juries impaneled a year.
Grand juries go as far back as the Middle Ages. They were used in England to protect citizens from the overreaching authority of the crown.
In San Francisco, 150 people are summoned to duty for each grand jury. Of that number, the judge eliminates anyone with a hardship. Of the remaining prospective jurors, 32 names are randomly pulled from an old iron drum. They are individually questioned by the judge to determine whether they can be objective and impartial. A background check is also conducted to ensure that none of the prospective jurors has a felony conviction. Then the names go back in the drum and 19 are randomly chosen. From that number the judge picks a foreperson.

The grand jury can be used to investigate criminal activity and to issue indictments. It usually hears multiple cases during the four months it is in service and has subpoena power. There must be at least 12 jurors in the room to conduct business. They conduct their business in secret and jurors swear not to discuss their deliberations, even after their service ends, although the transcripts of the deliberations are made public.
Once a prosecutor has brought a case to the jurors, they have far more authority than those hearing a trial. They can grill witnesses, ask for further evidence and conduct their own inquiries.

While no defense attorneys are allowed in the jury room, prosecutors are required by law to not only present damaging evidence but must show anything that is favorable or exculpatory.
It takes 12 jurors, who have heard all the evidence from beginning to end, all to agree before an indictment is issued. The jurors also have the power to indict people other than those brought before the panel.

CHRONOLOGY OF THE CASE
Nov. 19
Alex Fagan Jr., Matthew Tonsing, David Lee and more than 100 other off-duty police officers attend a banquet at House of Prime Rib to celebrate the promotion of Fagan's father, Alex Fagan Sr., to assistant chief.
Nov. 20
(Times are approximate)
12 a.m.: The banquet breaks up. Fagan Jr., Tonsing and Lee go to the Bus Stop bar on Union Street.

2 a.m.: The three officers leave the Bus Stop. About 100 yards away, Adam Snyder --, a bartender, is closing up at the Blue Light bar. He leaves with his friend Jade Santoro.

2:20 a.m.: Two of the officers allegedly accost Snyder and Santoro on Union Street and demand Santoro's bag of steak fajitas. The third drives up in a pickup truck, and a fight ensues.
2:27 a.m.: Snyder calls 911 on his cell phone. "I need some cops fast," he tells the dispatcher. He later tells the dispatcher, "I just got out of work, and they just started fighting us, over nothing."
2:29 a.m.: Police arrive to find Snyder and Santoro bleeding and their assailants gone. The three officers later return to the scene, but the investigating officers allow them to leave without being questioned, tested for alcohol or having their clothing checked for blood or other evidence.

4 a.m.: Capt. Greg Corrales, Tonsing's and Lee's boss at the Mission District police station, is called to Northern Station, where the three officers had been taken. He arrives 40 minutes later to find the three officers are present but have not been interviewed. He said they appeared to be sober. Corrales summons the supervising lieutenant of the night investigations unit and an internal affairs inspector. That investigator does not arrive at Northern Station until after 5 a.m.
5 a.m.: Santoro, who told police he suffered a broken nose, is released from San Francisco General Hospital after doctors staple closed a gash to his head.
7 a.m.: Investigators take urine samples to test for alcohol from Fagan Jr.,
Tonsing and Lee.
Nov. 22
District Attorney Terence Hallinan meets with police officials and declares afterward that "we are upset by the way this investigation has been pursued so far, as are the police officers we spoke with." Police Chief Earl Sanders, who does not attend the meeting, later defends his department and compares critics of the probe to those who vilified Jesus Christ. Mayor Willie Brown suggests the incident was one of "mutual combat."
Nov. 27
Corrales calls the accusations against the officers "ludicrous," but concedes that the initial investigation was lax.
Dec. 2
Police officials reveal that Fagan Jr. had been ordered to undergo anger management after yelling and cursing at a suspect in September. The training was put off after the Union Street incident.
Dec. 5
Police sources say inspectors looking into the initial investigation have been barred from interviewing several officers, examining cell phone records and disciplinary histories.
Dec. 11
Police hand over their findings in the case to Hallinan. The district attorney asks for follow-up inquiries.
Jan. 10, 2003

The FBI says it has started a preliminary investigation into potential civil rights violations stemming from incidents of alleged brutality involving Fagan Jr. The district attorney's office is conducting a similar probe. Three men have filed claims with the city alleging Fagan Jr. and other officers roughed them up during arrests.
Jan. 14
Lt. Joe Dutto, who had been leading the police investigation, is transferred to the vice squad. Dutto's reaction: "You can read between the lines."
Jan. 15
Hallinan blasts Dutto's transfer and says of the SFPD brass, "There's a failure to cooperate here." Dutto says the command staff put obstacles in his way. Police officials insist the transfer was routine and done as part of a larger shakeup.

Jan. 28
Hallinan takes case to criminal grand jury, calling the first of what will eventually be more than 40 witnesses.
Feb. 12
Memo surfaces from Sgt. Vickie Stansberry, Fagan Jr.'s former supervising sergeant, dating from Sept. 19. In it, she warns superiors that Fagan Jr. was a problem officer prone to clashing with suspects and supervisors alike.
Feb. 27
A grand jury returns indictments against Fagan Jr., Tonsing, Lee on assault charges, and seven other members on charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice: Sanders, Fagan Sr., Corrales, Deputy Chief Greg Suhr, Deputy Chief David Robinson, Lt. Ed Cota and Sgt. John Syme.

Feds confiscate 'illegal' domain names

By Declan McCullagh CNET News.com February 27, 2003, 4:09 AM PT

WASHINGTON--Federal police have adopted a novel crime-fighting
tactic: seizing control of domain names for Web sites that allegedly
violate the law.
Attorney General John Ashcroft said Monday that the domain names for
several Web sites allegedly set up to sell illegal "drug
paraphernalia" would be pointed at servers located at the Drug
Enforcement Administration. A federal judge in Pittsburgh granted
the U.S. Department of Justice permission to do so until a trial can
take place, the government said.

Wednesday afternoon, the DOJ said it had taken over the iSoNews.com
domain, whose owner pleaded guilty to felony copyright crimes under
the controversial Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). David
Rocci, 22, pleaded guilty in December to using his site to sell
"mod" chips that let Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation owners
modify their devices so they can use them to play illegally copied
games, or "warez."

Rocci "attempted to profit by marketing circumvention devices to
(the gaming) community knowing they would be used to play pirated
games," Michael Chertoff, the assistant attorney general for the
DOJ's criminal division, said in a statement. "He thought that there
were no risks associated with his actions. He was wrong, and
everyone engaged in the warez scene should take note."

As previously reported, manufacturers like Sony have waged an
international fight against mod chips, with Canadian police
targeting an Ottawa man last July for selling mod chips for the
PlayStation 2. A Hong Kong video game retailer, Lik-Sang, has been
sued by game console makers Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony.

But this case appears to have been the first such prosecution in the
United States under the DMCA, a 1998 copyright law that generally
restricts anyone from circumventing copy protection technologies or
distributing software or hardware designed for circumvention
purposes. The DMCA says commercial violators "shall be fined not
more than $500,000 or imprisoned for not more than 5 years, or both,
for the first offense."

The Justice Department did not release a copy of Rocci's plea
agreement, but said that he will be sentenced on March 7 before U.S.
District Judge James Cacheris in Alexandria, Va.

"Rocci used his Web site as the exclusive means to advertise and
market the sale of mod chips to individuals in the online warez
community," the government said in a statement. "The iSoNews Web
site was dedicated to providing information about copyright
infringement and piracy, and included pages with news on the illegal
warez scene, discussion forums on piracy, and up-to-date listings of
all of the latest pirated products that were available. The site had
over 100,000 registered users and claimed to receive over 140,000
hits each day."

Rocci allegedly sold the Enigmah chip, which cost between $45 and
$60 apiece. Like other mod chips, the Enigmah defeats security
systems in the Xbox, allowing owners to play legally and illegally
copied games, run unauthorized software and play games intended for
other geographic regions.

Some hackers have seized on mod chips as a vehicle to run Linux on
the Xbox.
Advocates argue such legitimate, nonpiracy uses of mod chips
disqualify them as "circumvention devices" under the DMCA.

Visitors to iSoNews.com on Wednesday saw a notice saying: "The
domain and Web site were surrendered to U.S. law enforcement
pursuant to a federal prosecution and felony plea agreement for
conspiracy to violate criminal copyright laws."

But the Web site is still online and accessible via means other than
the domain name. iSoNews.com regulars have resorted to using the
site's numeric IP address--66.201.243.170--and are continuing to
discuss the case.
"Thanks to everyone for your support in this site, we all appreciate
it and will continue to do so," one person wrote.

In October 2000, Sega had threatened iSoNews.com with a cease-and-
desist letter, but Jennifer Granick, the attorney representing the
site at the time, said Wednesday that no suit had been filed.

An attorney for Rocci could not be reached Wednesday.

Marc Rotenberg of the Electronic Privacy Information Center said
Monday that redirecting Web visitors to Justice Department sites
becomes a kind of "electronic flypaper" that raises novel legal
questions.

The privacy policy on the Justice Department's site permits the DOJ
to hand personal information about visitors to the FBI or other law
enforcement agencies. It says, "We may take additional steps to
identify you based on this information, and we may share this
information, including your identity, with other government
agencies."

At least four drug-related Web sites targeted by the Justice
Department--PipesForYou.com, ColorChangingGlass.com, 420now.com, and
OmniLounge.com--now sport government messages. The text says: "By
application of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration,
the Web site you are attempting to visit has been restrained by the
United States District Court for the Western District of
Pennsylvania."

Federal law prohibits selling any product that is "primarily
intended" for use with illegal drugs, including water pipes, roach
clips and small spoons used with cocaine.

DIJ' VU IN AFGHANISTAN

On the frigid night of Dec. 24, 1979, Soviet airborne forces seized Kabul
airport. Elite Alpha Group commandos sped to the presidential palace, burst
into the bedroom of Afghan President Hafizullah Amin, and gunned him down.
Columns of Soviet armor crossed the border and raced south toward Kabul.

It took Soviet forces only a few days to occupy Afghanistan. They installed
a puppet ruler, Babrak Karmal. Moscow proclaimed it had invaded Afghanistan
to "liberate" it from "feudalism and Islamic extremism," and "nests of
terrorists and bandits."

Soviet propaganda churned out films of Red Army soldiers playing with
children, building schools, dispensing medical care. Afghan women were to
be liberated from the veil and other backwards Islamic customs. The Soviet
Union and its local communist allies would bring Afghanistan into the 20th
Century.

THAIS 'WRONGLY TARGETED' IN ANTI-DRUG BLITZ

50 Thais 'Wrongly Targeted' In Anti-Drug Blitz

They Claim That Interior Ministry Has Blacklisted Them By Mistake And Are
Resisting Orders To Report To The Police

BANGKOK - Some 50 people say they have been mistakenly included in a feared
official blacklist being used in a tough drug crackdown.

Those on the lists are worried as they are being asked to report to the
police, Thailand's National Human Rights Commission said. Advertisement

Rightly, it is names of those 'involved in one way or another in drugs'
that appear on the blacklists, said Mr Thirapat Assawasangsit, secretary to
the commissioner who oversees drug issues.

The lists are compiled separately by the Interior Ministry and the police.
Nearly 1,000 drug traffickers and producers have been killed in its first
24 days of the crackdown that started on Feb 1.

MUSHROOM BUSINESS LANDS 4 IN TROUBLE

In a way, it seems so '60s.

After all, aren't magic mushrooms a hippie thing of the past, long since
pushed aside by cocaine, crank and meth?

Apparently not.

Last week, four people from the tiny town of Amanda Park in Grays Harbor

spores.

The four defendants indicted by a federal grand jury are Robert W.
McPherson, Steven Coggin, Judy Kreigh and McPherson's wife, Margaret

thank you for taking into consideration some good-intended criticism ;-)

I'd like to correct you again: INDRA is the name of the extract seller. The man who extracted it is Carl N.W.; I guess and hope he's still alive, the last time I heard of him he was with Sara in NL. (Cordially, Carl! ;-)

Marc,

Sorry to this matter and I might chalk it to memory lapses from chemotherapy
on my part but, I have no recollection of indicating the INDRA extract as
"forgiving".  It is not my language and I have no practical experience with
the INDRA product so I doubt I would have provided that particular comment.
I know how busy you must be and I myself have found that I cannot quite
identify who said what on more than a single occasion.

In case there is any concern, this is not an attack on Marc.

Concerning this list recently, every list I have been on during my list
history of about ten years periodically goes a bit amuck.  I think that Brett
Calabrese's post "Re: [ibogaine] Marc's comments on Carla's remarks" of this
date, 2.27.03, begins to address the value of all providers and the
understanding of ibogaine therapy and the therapies they have made available.

And, Marc, in case I did make the statement that I have denied, I hope you
will be as forgiving as the INDRA product.

With regards and turning 60 on Saturday.  I'm amazed.
Howard

Marc - There is no such thing as the "ibogaine experience" - it doesnt exist outside of semantic space. What exists are people who have experiences with ibogaine - a crucial difference.
As Brett said, you may be setting yourself up for a fall if you discount
the complexity and diversity of a given experience.
What happens when (and it will happen) someone has an experience that isnt "a movie of their life",no "screen", no childhood memories, no biographical/personal data at all - have they had the "wrong" experience
? - are they having an "incorrect" vision - do they become iboga heretics ?

I feel really strongly about this.Ive only done ibogaine twice (HCL not Indra at 15mg/kg and 25mg/kg respectively) and because of what I read : " a screen will appear, scenes from your childhood will float by,blah, blah, blah", i was expecting some kind of psychedelic movie(its the subliminal "screen" metaphor,it implies some kind of cognitive distance between the observer/observed)- what i got was something else entirely,no personal/biographical data - and like most junkies, i had a pretty fucked up childhood so it wasnt for  a lack of material to draw upon ;)
I did feel when i came round that i had somehow "failed" until i started reading up on others experiences and speaking to Brett and other people on this list and i realised i hadnt failed.
What each individual experiences on ibogaine is unique to them and the content of the experience varies greatly with each experience.
My second experience was completely different to the first in a way ive never experienced with any other empathogen.

The main point is that nobody "owns" ibogaine nor the definative treatment modality. My intuition is that the iboga root has been used for thousands of years, its morphogenetic field is just so "rich" for want of a better word.
It has at least 150 years of documented use.Ibogaine itself as we all know has been around for 100 years. It exists as a self-organising/self transforming entity , spiralling in complexity. Its use changes constantly.People transform its use/ritual context constantly - it flows.
To say that you have the optimum treatment modality in terms of addiction therapy is just plain arrogance.
Having said that, i think what you are doing is way cool, i wish we had something similar over here in england.
Many people dont have a place they can go to like ITH and/or can afford Mash et al, myself included.
For me, this listserve was a lifeline in my quest for ibogaine and freedom from addiction in terms of the support and advice i recieved so when you say :

"I am grateful its myself,linette.....who are helping people here and not some of the people on this listserve"

You are doing a disservice to the people who contribute their time and energy to the list.IMO.

I think what Marko was getting at is that you are dealing with serious shit here, ibogaine is extremely weird, powerful, complex and can as easily operate in and influence your space-time continuum in ways you may find perplexing and occasionally devastating. It bites!

You are doing incredible work, but remember, to paraphrase Nietzche:
"The deeper you look into ibogaine, the deeper it looks into you"

respect to you
paul.

Note :
If anyone got halfway through my last mail and saw that i called ibogaine an "empathogen",dont jump down my throat.I should have  used
"entheogen".Having said that,it has empathic qualities but not in a cute fluffy mdma/mda sense.i'll shut up........

paul.

PS : Am i the only person to be fascinated by these facts:

A)nicotine produces small ammounts of norharman when smoked
B) Norharman can be created by heating L-Trytophan at boiling point.

Bro, Carl W. posts to this list or he did last time was last year. His name isn't indra, that's what the big ibo batch of extract he made is called now.

There is something I must say here and hope that you think about it. There are a lot of people who talk here and a lot of them are disturbed and a lot of shit gets talked about. Mostly not about Mash too much because then Patrick starts up. She is this evil person. No, she's not. She replies to email, she never replies about anything personal when I ask something about Patrick except saying she loves him and that's her son. He defends her. At San Francisco I finally got it, they're both like the same person, very arrogant, very brilliant, very crazy people. But they're people, they care about each other is obvious, they are f**ked up people, but good people. That's a part of it. The other part is neither one of them talks bullshit. She knows science, patrick knows addiction and bro does he ever know ibogaine and psychedelics, computers too ;-) And that goes for Brett, who is another nut but I always feel there is someone in there. He posts facts about things he has done or un
derstands, if he doesn't know he says he doesn't know. Dana Beal is one of the biggest crazies I've ever anywhere but he's another person who is very crazy, but you get the sense of someone in there and you can't help but like him even if he is talking about time travel. Howard is a great person. Sara posts some strange things but she also does not talk bullshit and maybe she has a different angle on how things work and how to guide people through it. Randy too is real and even the doctor from mexico who I dissed out by accident some months ago replied to me and there is a person there, I had respect that he stood up for himself and he was right. Everyone here is in some way not normal I think they wouldn't be here if they were.

What I've never seen before anywhere is someone who started asking questions on this list last fall and didn't know anything, now guiding people and giving advice. When what you're saying with authority is not right. You don't have any of the facts but keep answering. You disrespect people who have knowledge you don't and contribute their time and help people here. It may be a angry list sometimes, but its also a informative one full of people who understand what theyre saying. If you post how you are dosing people and what you do then you're sharing what you're learning with other people and that is very honorable and commendable bro. But telling people there is some movie, then telling Carla she didn't do ibogaine because that's not what she saw, giving people ibo in dark rooms and explaining what its supposed to be like.

Bro what I want to say to you is that its starting to sound real creepy. It feels like you have no interest in ibogaine at all but you want to take ownership of it. Of course people are going to say you do good things because you're giving it away. But its starting to feel like come here little girl, want some candy?

I'm only waiting for the zombie army of people you've given ibo to to rise up wearing Marc Emry tshirts and selling flowers.

Bro, do you even smoke pot or just make alot of millions from it and stick a joint in your mouth when there is a photo op?

You are very much starting to weird me out. I dont need 3 of your assistants to reply to me explaining what you really meant. But why not stick to saying what you do know and what you've learned instead of whatever it is that youre trying to do. I think its too late to own ibogaine. If you ever did it you'd know you can't do that anyway.

If you want to help people then why not do that. I thought that posting information and sharing what youre doing is great but the past days are starting to be like the twilight zone and this place was already the twilight zone before you got here but not a sinister episode only a weird one.

Peace out,
Curtis

Please subscribe to new MMM email list. Public archive still open.

The public MMM email list at Yahoo Groups now requires people to subscribe
in order to post messages to the list and the public archive. For a few
weeks I set it up so that non-members could also send in email messages to
the list. That was to help people send in MMM rally reports. It worked.
The archive also got some spam too. That was deleted. But people should
keep sending in MMM-related stuff. Just subscribe first.

The MMM message archive itself is still public and accessible to anybody:

*MMM (Million Marijuana March) and Global Cannabis Action. Marches and
rallies, the first Saturday in May of each year. Worldwide (since 1999).
May 3 2003, May 4 2002. May 5, 2001. May 6, 2000. May 1, 1999. Over 200
cities so far ... and counting!!! Other multi-city cannabis and drug
reform events are covered, too. Email list public archive for event info,
ideas, MMM 2002 rally reports, photo attachments, links, HTML web pages,
etc.. Also, Dana Beal's most recent messages include the latest,
continually-revised, compilation of MMM 2003 cities, contacts, and rally
info. After subscribing to this Yahoo Group email list, please use
cannabisaction@yahoogroups.com  for sending in messages. On the homepage
there are links to archived messages, and to web pages with even more MMM
links, info, and rally report compilations online. Homepage:
