addicts in Vietnam capital

Cannabis rules again among young addicts in Vietnam capital

As ecstasy supplies run dry in Vietnam's capital Hanoi after a series of
massive drug hauls in recent months, local young addicts are turning to
an old standby drug, marijuana.

The two most obtainable forms of marijuana in the capital city now are
known by their street names: "Canadian grass", which is smuggled from
Canada, and "Tai Ma", meaning Great Hemp.

Marijuana is deemed almost as "cool" as ecstasy, but is cheaper,
according to local youth.

Canadian grass party

Canadian grass is genuine stuff, even wealthy youths in Hanoi can hardly
buy it, says H., a young boy who is the "captain" of a group of six
youths.

H. has a sister living in Canada, who at times smuggles marijuana into
Vietnam for her brother to smoke.

The six of them often have "Canadian grass parties" at H.'s house.

"We can smoke as much as we want sinceŠ traces of marijuana cannot be
detected by urine tests," the young boy says.

"Canada grass is the best marijuana in the world."

Group member Hai says that after smoking Canadian grass, it takes him
four to five hours to get home although he lives just two kilometers
away by motorbike.

"When I'm driving, I feel like I'm walking on clouds.  The streets are
noisy, but I can't even hear the sound of my bike's horn," Hai says.

Tuan, another group member, says whenever smoking grass, he cannot wait
to listen to music.

"After smoking, I don't want to do anything other but lie down, listen
to music and talk," Tuan mouths and suddenly bursts into tears.

"Flying" with Great Hemp

Buying Great Hemp is now more difficult than even heroin, while prices
are quite high, according to locals.

An addict says after recent massive ecstasy bursts, drug dealers have
become extremely vigilant.

Late at night in a small room at a karaoke bar, six young guys gather,
calling themselves the "aircrew", ready to "fly with Great Hemp" and
loud music.

The first one starts smoking, and after finishing just half the
cigarette, suddenly begins laughing almost hysterically.

After about three minutes, the boy stops laughing and yells "Give me a
drink."

"You should not curb Great Hemp with water; the more you drink, the more
you feel thirsty," Tung, a 14-year-old boy, says.

Then the "aircrew", who are all Tung's age, joins the "flight".

By midnight when the "flight lands", the "aircrew" looks ragged and
staggers around the room crying and laughing.

Hard-to-get market

Marijuana fever has been smoldering the capital city for the last two
years before the recent rise of ecstasy.

The most infamous marijuana market use to be a small street in downtown
Hanoi and buying the drug was very easy, according to addicts.

There, drug addicts could smoke marijuana phlegmatically right in the
street with little chance of being arrested.

At that time, a gram of Canadian grass cost 800,000 to 1,200,000 VND, or
50 to 75 USD.

But now, marijuana sales are more discreet and selling points have moved
to more secret areas in small interlacing alleys around the city.

After massive drug busts in the last month and a half, marijuana has
been selling like hotcakes.

But drug dealers only sell marijuana to regular customers, and contact
is often made via mobile phones, a young addict says.

A Canadian grass joint now costs 100,000 VND, or 6.3 USD.

Looks Like EU Out Maneuvered the U.S.

Published on 6/26/2005
by Healthy News Service
http://healthy.net/scr/news.asp?Id=7743

International trade regulations for vitamin and
mineral supplements are scheduled for finalization in
July 2005. These could have been modeled after the
lenient United States' approach. However, retracing
events of the last fifteen years reveals how the EU
tenaciously fought the U.S. every step of the way to
emerge victorious in getting their restrictive rules
as the international standard.
-------------------------------------------------------

For three years I have been compiling information in
an attempt to understand the controversy over the
Codex Draft Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food
Supplements (the Guidelines). Gaining insight into the
different perspectives wasn't enough to explain why
this international document related to dietary
supplements was so important and the motivation behind
the tenacity of some parties to get their way.

Then I learned a key fact that made so many other
facts fall into place. The European Union (EU) is
close to implementing an EU Pharmaceuticals Directive,
which takes the position that anything that changes or
enhances human physiology needs to be controlled as a
medicinal product. This includes items that might
prevent disease. Stop and consider the vast range of
what this covers. The EU has a powerful agenda at
stake with this Directive.

I had been comparing the Codex Guidelines and the EU
Food Supplements Directive and trying to understand
why it was so important to the EU that these be
similar. Only when I stepped back and placed these
documents within a larger context that included the EU
Pharmaceuticals Directive did I grasp the
significance.

Only then did the very short "positive list" of
vitamins and minerals allowed by the EU Food
Supplements Directive make sense. In EU countries,
with so many dietary supplements regulated as
medicinal products under the strict definition in the
EU Pharmaceuticals Directive, there would be very few
nutrients left over to be regulated by the EU Food
Supplements Directive, and these would need to be at
very low, ineffective dosage levels. Any supplement
dosage high enough to benefit a human being would
shift that product into the drug category.

Place this information in the context of the Codex
Alimentarius, which provides food-related
international trade standards that all countries can
be forced to adopt through the enforcement powers of
the World Trade Organization (WTO). You can see why it
was vital to the EU that the Codex Guidelines be in
alignment with the EU Food Supplements Directive. You
can understand why the EU representative was motivated
to fight so vigorously to add "Food" to the
Guidelines' title and keep out any mention that
vitamins and minerals might have any health benefits.
And why he was particularly fervent to block any
mention that vitamins and minerals could prevent
disease.

If the Codex Guidelines had ended up lenient, there
would be the potential that international
harmonization could force the EU to give up its strict
regional control of maintaining low levels of vitamin
and mineral supplements as food and higher levels as
drugs. To protect its interests the EU must keep the
Guidelines and other Codex standards restrictive and
in alignment with its Directives.

With this new understanding in mind, I retraced the
history of the development of the Codex Guidelines
looking for signs of a EU's strategy. I found that the
idea to control dietary supplements had been first
openly discussed at the 1988 session of an EU
country-based Codex committee, the Codex Committee on
Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses
(CCNFSDU). Through the years, the EU representative to
this committee kept successfully positioning the
developing EU Food Supplements Directive ideas as core
elements of the Codex Guidelines. The EU
representative made a big issue of the fact that he
was speaking for fifteen countries. This large EU
block of "votes" in the CCNFSDU and other Codex
sessions worked.

Where was the U.S. as this unfolded? CCNFSDU reports
show that initially the U.S. protested the regulation
of dietary supplements as inconsistent with U.S.
national regulations. The U.S. said that regulation
would unnecessarily restrict consumer access to
dietary supplements. When this did not work, the U.S.
did not, however, propose an alternative agenda.

Rather, the FDA-led U.S. delegation constantly
compromised its views and ended up accepting what the
EU wanted. In fairness, it should be pointed out that
the EU had the benefit of a block of "votes" and the
sympathetic CCNFSDU Chair from Germany (an EU country)
declaring group consensus (approval) for whatever the
EU supported.

What could the U.S. have proposed? Like the EU, the
U.S. has a definition for health-enhancing products
that can designate them as drugs. However, in the
early 1990s the U.S. Dietary Supplement Health and
Education Act (DSHEA) was passed. It designated
vitamins, minerals, herbs, and many other dietary
supplements as food, rather than drugs. There is no
indication that any individual, group, or U.S.
government entity felt motivated to encourage the rest
of the world to follow suit. Therefore, without
significant opposition, a commitment to prevail and
effective use of the Codex system were powerful keys
to success for the EU agenda.

With all of this in mind, take a fresh look at the
various sections of the Codex Guidelines to see just
how successful the EU has been.

The document is titled Codex Draft Guidelines for
Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements.
The Preamble states that a normal diet provides all
the nutrients you need. There is no mention that
supplemental nutrition can enhance health and prevent
disease--even in the face of a World Health
Organization (WHO) publication documenting these
facts. And the WHO is a parent organization of the
Codex Alimentarius.

We do not know which vitamins and minerals will be
allowed, but numerous restrictive criteria are
included.

We do not know what dosage levels will be allowed, but
several layers of options for lowering them are
available.

We do not know exactly how these unknowns will be
determined or who will have the power to make these
decisions, but sympathetic FAO/WHO bodies have been
set up to produce results preferred by the EU.
In short, while we know the Codex Guidelines will be
restrictive, we do not actually know what this
document will specifically allow. And yet the
Guidelines document is on the agenda for finalization
by the Codex Alimentarius Commission at the July 4-9,
2005, session in Rome.

Once the Guidelines are finalized--whether in July
2005 or at some future date--will the EU be satisfied
to let the U.S. be an isolated haven that allows
unrestricted consumer access to high potency dietary
supplements? Probably not. Understandably, the EU will
want to secure its powerful regional position and will
most likely look to removing any influence from the
lenient U.S. DSHEA law. This could be done very
readily by having an EU country file a trade dispute
with the WTO against the U.S., naming something
related to the differences between Codex and U.S.
supplement regulations. The WTO Dispute Settlement
Panel would compare the restrictive Codex Guidelines
and the lenient U.S. DSHEA regulations looking for an
unfair trade advantage and/or non-harmonization with
international trade standards. Since the WTO
historically makes decisions that will level the trade
playing field, there would be a high probability that
the WTO would rule against the U.S. and direct the
U.S. to revise DSHEA to match the Codex Guidelines.
And the U.S. would have to pay an expensive trade
sanction every year until it knuckled under and
changed DSHEA. Could the U.S. just refuse to pay? It
may take years, but the WTO keeps after a losing
country until it does what the WTO demands.
Historically, the U.S. has changed its laws.

Should this happen, and DSHEA regulations were
modified to be as restrictive as the Codex Guidelines
are ultimately expected to be, would you be able to
continue to freely purchase the wide range of dietary
supplements at your local health food store? Based on
what is already happening in several European
countries, probably not. Could the WTO really use
economics to pressure the U.S. to its will? A review
of trade agreements signed by the U.S. shows that it
definitely could.

What can be done to protect your interests? Is it too
late? There aren't any easy answers. Advocacy groups
in the U.S have tried for years, but they have
consistently found it difficult to generate concern.
Americans have confidence in their government's
ability to protect their rights and freedoms. They
cannot believe that there are outside organizations
(like the WTO) with more power than the U.S.
government. Yet, my research has verified that the WTO
has forced our country to change U.S. laws in the
past.

I am sharing the facts I have uncovered in hopes that
you will be better informed and more vigilant for
positive actions to protect health freedoms in the
U.S., particularly from the power of outside trade
regulations. Remember the strong motivation of many
other countries to restrict access to health-enhancing
options, such as dietary supplements. These countries
have become skilled in using international
organizations to support their preferences. You can
increase awareness of this serious matter by talking
about this with your friends and colleagues. If you
hear about advocacy campaigns for protecting health
freedoms, listen. If you agree with their ideas,
support what they are suggesting. Complacency supports
and encourages those working to undermine the current
heath freedoms in the U.S.

Hey Richard and The Miehi's, hey James, hey Dana,

This incident today with Patrick and the Realtor has given me
my first experience to get a glimmer of understanding why they
apparently call people who use methamphetamines "tweakers".

Keep in mind that I have absolutely no experience with, or around
people who use, this chemical. So up until today it has all just been
heresay.

But today I got tweaked by Patrick, who must be using that stuff
as he indicated he was in a recent visit when he admitted to me
he had a problem with using that stuff as we were talking about
ibogaine and how it was a remedy for addiction especially meth
and how it might benefit his brother Mark when he gets out of jail.
Then on the phone in the last couple weeks Patrick suggested
that both he and Mark "were going to take it" (ibogaine), confirming
Patrick is using, as has been evident in retrospect in his hyperness
on the phone many times, but not all the times, I talked to him over
the last year.

But Mark is coming out of custody clean of that stuff, so it is really
Patrick who is/has the problem now and maybe Mark can help
him by staying clean and sharp and getting Patrick ibogaine
and seeing how it helps.

In any case what happened that weirded me out today started
yesterday when typically wishy washy Patrick phoned me to say
quite determinedly he was coming up here to the property today
at 3pm.  I explained I was awaiting word on Beth's plans to come
with her sister and her truck to go to my storage and get stuff to
bring here and Beth to then bring her stuff from here with her home,
but he just kept saying he was coming up here at 3pm today, like
he expected or implicitly demanded I be here then to meet him,
but I didn't ask what about or why, just said I would adjust my
schedule and if Beth could do that I would just be sure to be back
by 3pm when he got here.  Today promptly at 3pm the realtor
(Jim Osborn?) showed up with a family with 3/4 dozen young kids
to show them the place to see if they would make an offer to buy it.
At first I thought it was a mistake and said no, let me call Patrick
and he said he had talked to him last night and had notes on a
paper with Patrick's cellphone number and other stuff written on it.
The prospective buyer (man) said the cellphone doesn't work up
here so I went inside and called Pat and he answered in Bakersfield
and said he was not coming up and "is Jim Osborn there?"  I said
yes and what's up, "you said you were coming at three and you didn't
tell me anything about this".  Pat said they want to look around if it's
ok, and I said not ok with me but if that's what he wanted then I would
let them.  I asked why he didn't tell me anything about this and he said
"I forgot" (like, as in, how stupid does he think I am).  He spoke
reassuringly that he just wanted to find out what the property was
worth and again agreed easily that I would have a chance to match
whatever acceptable offer might be made and buy it if they wanted
to sell, but it was my understanding they did not, nor would their late
mom Harlene per Georgia's insistence.

He said Mark is getting out again for the day tomorrow and will be
there in Bakersfield and they will call me to discuss.  Patrick specifically
told me a week ago that the taxes were near five years behind and due
$3500 on August 15 and he was worried, but had arranged with Ely to
borrow that money and he and Mark would pay it back.  Then today he
said the total was $4000 due to "fiscal year starting in June".  When I
mentioned this to Glade he said he thought the taxes were paid up at
the time of Harlene's death (2yrs ago?).

This way Patrick treated me is completely dishonest and disrespectful,
like spitting in my face, lying to me and expecting me to be stupid to
believe him because he was talking in his sweet wishy washy voice.

My conclusion is that if Patrick is that level of dishonest this means
everything he has told me is suspect, ie, now I think Lonewolf or his
friends did not take valuable stuff from the little trailer but Patrick did
and sold it for meth and blamed it on Lonewolf to avoid Mark's ire.
This idea is supported by the fact Patrick would never give me a list
let alone file a (false?) police report going on  record with his
accusations.

I know wolf is otherwise capable, and his friends, of such stealing, but
now I believe wolf when he said the stuff Patrick claims went missing
was never in the little trailer that he saw.

My thought is that this episode today was Pat's way of "negotiating"
with me to prompt some clearer agreement regarding how I am
being here, although Mark left it that we would deal with details of
my proposed lease when he gets free in another 33 days from
tomorrow.  In the completely ramshackle and unrentable shape this
place is in I think everyone sees me here now as an unpaid
caretaker to prevent vandalism but if and only if something
changes to make a reliable deal, I want to make the lease
with first right of refusal.

Wow, what an awakening, how stupid do I think I am? Pretty
well, as I have believed Patrick honest until now this happened
and now everything he says or has said is suspect.  When I asked
for details exactly about the taxes, dates, record number to check,
etc, he went way wishy washy again, slipped away from the question.

I discussed this briefly with Georgia on the phone today.  What I will
propose to the boys is that I pay the taxes myself directly to the tax
office effective June 14, 2005, and after.  That way they don't have
to worry about the taxes and the tax payments are not an excuse
to jack me around on this.  All year not one thing has Patrick done
to improve this place including put the belt on the washing machine
Glade says is the only thing keeping it from running.  Wolf has paid
about total $3600-4000 approximately since he moved in and it may
be that Patrick has not paid a cent of it towards the taxes and just
buying meth or whatever?   The bad rep wolf left with may be more
mud belonging to Patrick, or now egg on his face having lost a key
person who believed in his truthfulness.  Lonewolf has long experience
dealing with people who use meth including two of his brothers also
like Mark getting out of prison soon over problems associated with
their using it, so he knew all along how to read Patrick better than I,
now it looks like.

Please consider this and advise me.  Now clearly Mark is the one
I need to be dealing with and he said he would be up here again
in two weeks when he came last Sunday, but people tell me he is
not honest either.  Drug use is just an excuse, people are honest
or not.

Basically I got off the phone today clearly feeling Patrick was
"hustling me" for money, falsely claiming needed for back taxes,
and intentionally freaking me out as part of that hustle by sending
out the realtor without advising or consulting me.

What do you all think?  At least now I have recorded this I can go
to sleep tonight.  After this I will record all phone conversations
with Patrick so as needed I can play back his lies for him to
hear when he is sober, and I will have some modicum of protection.

Medical Marijuana
Compassion Not Federal Prison

From: "renee boje" rboje@...
Subject: RB: I need help w/US prison research
Date: Sat, 16 Jul 2005 15:19:29 +0000

My fellow activists & friends,

I am in need of assistance with US prison research regarding women's
prisons. I am already familiar with the Amnesty International reports, the
UN reports, The Human Rights Watch reports and the ACLU reports. What we
need to do for my appeal is to gather evidence that will hold up in court as
submittable evidence concerning the cruel and inhumane and violent situation
that women face in US prisons today.

I discovered that Canada has only refused extradition on individuals facing
the death penalty in the country seeking their extradition. I face a
mandatory minimum of 10 years to life in a US federal prison. Those of you
unfamiliar with my case please see my website for details:
http://www.reneeboje.com

Although I do not face the death penalty, I sincerely fear for my own life
if I am sent back to a US prison to serve such a lengthy sentence. I know
this would kill my spirit, so to speak and damage me physically, emotionally
and mentally as I have researched extensively the cruel treatment women are
enduring in US prisons today. For example, over 50% of the guards watching
women in US prisons today are men and as a result, there is a widespread
problem throughout the US of prison guards raping female inmates and getting
away with it because most of their fellow guards look out for one another
and do not turn each other in very frequently. So, when female prisoners
complain to a guard they trust of such an attack, they are often punished
further in an effort to silence their complaints.

There is also a widespread outbreak now in US prisons of hepatitis c and
prisoners are now dying due to the improper medical care and neglect they
receive in American prisons today. I believe this type of evidence helps to
prove that my life would indeed be in danger in a US prison.

I have spent the last two weeks familiarizing myself with these types of
atrocities and more and as a result I got very ill and came down with a
severe lung infection I am now working on healing. This type of research is
too close to home for me now as I am told I have less than 2 years to fight
for my freedom now in Canada and I must rely on my inner strength in order
to see my journey to it's end in hopes to win my case either at the Court of
Appeals level or at the Supreme Court of Canada. And, I must be strong for
my son Shiva who is now 3 and a bright and beautiful little boy who needs
his mommy to be grounded for him as all little one's do. This is why I am
asking for assistance. If you know of anyone who I might connect with to ask
them to do this type of research, please let me know. Also if you come
across something that you believe would be a strong submission for my case
in this regard, please pass it on to my attention at rboje@....

Thank you. I would like to take a moment here to express my extreme
gratitude for the many friends and allies who have lent me their support
during my trying ordeal here in Canada. I could not do this alone and am so
appreciative of everyone's encouragement, support and assistance. It means
more to me than you will ever know. Thank you with all my heart!

Love & freedom,

Karl Rove's Nondisclosure Agreement

A fact sheet released today by Rep. Waxman explains that the nondisclosure agreement signed by Karl Rove prohibited Mr. Rove from confirming the identity of covert CIA agent Valerie Wilson to reporters. Under the nondisclosure agreement and the applicable executive order, even "negligent" disclosures to reporters are grounds for revocation of a security clearance or dismissal.

Hi Krista,

I think that Patrick and Jeffrey Kamlet and I presented some very interesting
and important information on dose and safety issues.  My presentation that
can be found at http://www.ibogaine.desk.nl/ibogaine_forms_dose_regimen.ppt
includes dose studies of Eric Taub and Sara Glatt and others.

Since Jeff is the only doctor providing safety data, you bet I was all eyes
and ears and really thankful for every word he has presented.  But, Jeff is the
first to say that he is a clinician and not a researcher and there are
differences.  His first obligation is the safety of his patient and not the
discovery of new data though he has certainly obtained important information and I and
many others would very much look forward to his publishing but, it is unclear
if he is being allowed to do that as there may be agreements in place that
prohibit him from disclosing certain information.  I haven't seen the agreements
so I don't know what he can and cannot disclose but, Jeffrey Kamlet has
recognized his responsibilities as a medical doctor to provide information
beneficial to the safety of ibogaine treated patients.

The original findings for the interactions of opioids and ibogaine were
published by Jurg Schneider and his research group from Ciba in the 1950s along
with some other very interesting studies.  In fact, if you read Hunter Thompson's
article were he describes then presidential candidate Muskie as taking
ibogaine, you will see that it appears Thompson swiped some of the descriptions
Schneider used for his rats and cats who were given ibogaine and applied them to
Muskie.

Schneider also filed a patent for the use of ibogaine to potentiate morphine
alalgesia # 2,187,623 which I will attach as a pdf file and hope it comes
through. Otherwise there is a great site, where you can get free pdfs of patents,
http://www.freepatentsonline.com/

Getting back to your very good interpretation of what I said in response to
your post to the list, there have been no formal studies of ibogaine and drug
interactions except some relating to the major drugs haviing abuse potential,
morphine, cocaine, alcohol, etc.

Interaction studies between one drug such as ibogaine and psychiatric drugs
generally just never get done.  What you should recall is that all of the
original ibogaine research including major doses, mid level doses and low doses
were all accomplished by drug users and not doctors and then the information was
transferred to the medical community.  Of course the research community
describes this all as anecdotal and not reliable which leaves the drug users to fend
for themselves.

Thanks for the reply Howard, I guess I see your point. I was very

when Kamlet listed a lot of the health and safety issues I thought all
of this was great.

Correct me if I'm wrong, what you're saying is that nobody really
knows what would happen if someone took Zoloft at the same time as
ibogaine, there are doctors who can list theories and reasons why this
isn't a good idea because they don't want to get sued and what it
really means is they haven't done it because it's eaisier to tell
people to get off it then to be liable for them if something bad
happens. Then since everybody responds differently, which really means
there are probably 5 people on this list who took ibogaine while on
Zoloft, never read the ibogaine manual or any other literature and are
alive and well.

Howard please excuse me if I am also getting lost on this topic. Everything I
have read about ibogaine says that it is dangerous and you should be at the
stage of withdrawl before taking it if you are on opiates.

That CIBA work which Patrick mentions in the MAPS article as work done by CIBA
and the government is work on animals or people? Are these some of the lost
papers where the results where never published and nobody ever saw them, or
almost nobody since Patrick looks to have read them and you too.

Then Patrick write and I quote

http://ibogaine.mindvox.com/index.html?Articles/MAPS-Ibogaine2.htm~mainFrame

"Dirty" Maintenance

For some, abstinence from narcotic analgesics is not a reality-based goal. Many
chronic pain patients are really not going to cast off their crutches, light up
some medical marijuana and dance in the meadow, after ibogaine. In addition to
chronic-pain patients, there are many people who are using narcotic analgesics
to self-medicate a variety of comorbid conditions. In some cases a "successful"
detox from opiates means that somebody can look forward to a lifetime's worth
of maintenance on neuroleptics.

Given the choice between opiates and neuroleptics, there is no simple answer,
but the side-effects of current anti-psychotic medications can be devastating.
When you compare the quality of someone's life when they are controlling
schizophrenia, for example, through the use of opiates (which tend to have
extremely mild side effects) vs. the qualify of life attained using sanctioned
medicines (usually neuroleptics, with Cogentin to alleviate some of the
side-effects anti-psychotics produce), it is entirely possible, even probable,
that the person is happier with the opiates.

Ibogaine is remarkably effective in addressing one of the primary problems in
any sort of opiate or opioid maintenance: tolerance. Over time, individuals
find they must do extremely high doses of their medications in order to achieve
any effect whatsoever.

WARNING: the following category should be considered highly experimental. There
is a complete lack of published scientific data regarding the following
examples. The difference between 50mg. And 500mg. Is extremely significant and
quite possibly fatal. Ibogaine potentiates the analgesic effect of opiates and
opioids."

End of quoting Patrick, the paragraph above is bigger then every other font in
the article, bold faced and in red, I get the idea he wanted everyone to read
it.

So then off he goes and lists exact figures, details and numbers.

Low doses and boosters have been mentioned here many times, but what I have
never seen anywhere is anyone saying that you can take ibogaine and opiates at
the same time. Then Patrick wrote a whole article about it and you just agreed
with him and the both of you are referencing work at CIBA, where the results
were never published.

If all this is such a bloody great idea and you first did ibogaine in 1962, why
did it take 45 years for someone to write it up and what it does on humans?

Patrick, Howard, you've lost me. Howard my understanding was that at least one
of the deaths that Dr. Mash accused you of killing someone with ibogaine by
over dosing them, is where you published that she died exactly because she took
opiates while on ibogaine?

I've become lost in this. Please don't list off a list of references and
medical articles, what this person I'm replying to wrote is scaring me because
off he'll go and tell everyone to take heroin and ibogaine at the same time for
a bigger thrill and someone will listen to him!

Patrick hacked into CIBAs secret files, stole them and starting doing

Subject:        [Ibogaine] dancing bwiti kills my self (ibo & nightlife pt II)

a word of CAUTION for beginners: donīt try this yourself unless you are really experienced and know what you are doing. After my major journey on iboga last december, which freed me from addiction, i started with tiny doses together with nature, music, meditation, train rides, emailing or sports. when i started clubbing on IBO i did very small doses the first few times. note that you are relatively unprotected in nightlife and youīll meet some unplesant drunks. in case anyone wants to try this: know yourself and make sure your body is in excellent condition. donīt mix with alcohol or other drugs on no account (you wonīt want any anyway) except some weed if you like.

itīs problematic to promote ibo as a drug for raves in a time where there is a struggle to get it approved as medication against addictions and when a lot of kids heedlessly mix all kinds of drugs at raves every weekend. still for me personally iboga became the number one for dancing, small doses keep me awake and functioning, enjoying music and smalltalk. higher doses get me into visionary possession trance like states.

so here is my report from last saturday night:

went alone to a drum&bass party at about 1am and ate 10g of high-quality rootbark powder(ca.5%alkaloids) within 90min, together with lots of water from the sink in the toilet. no stomach problem, feeling strong and good. in the main hall there were video projections on each wall above the crowd,  alienated cut-ups from 8-bit console games and stuff like that, very cool, also they had a red stoboscope. the music was dark, hard and sinister and i enjoyed it a lot. i saw a vibrating net of blue lines everywhere. the room itself was vibrating. when i closed my eyes i saw abstract visuals, not really graphic but synaesthetically mixing with music and movement and very bright. all my moves and muscles, from tip to toe, were controlled running on autopilot like in possession trance. quicksteppin 16th parts on 190bpm breakbeats and mighty dubby basslines while trippin full force on ibo is cool beyond description. but it got much better. when i sat down to pause two girls i didnīt know came by and shared their blunt with me. then there was a streetsign with an arrow pointing left, then it was like in a racing game for playstation and a symetric ballet of cars and motorcycles started and i thought nice but i donīt care and opened my eyes and closed them again and then i could see the music oscillating in my head, at the same time standing still like a sculpture. i focussed on my breath and it was sparkling pure light running from nose down into stomach, rising up to breast sinking back to stomach and then: boooooooooooooooooooooooooooom! everything complete. like a switch was operated. everything was seen from the other side, only Him watching His. the veil lifted. universal impersonal merciless relentless love. infinite in time&space. after a while i got up and left the club, although it was relatively early, 6am. i felt i was dragging a lifeless corpse to the subway. suffering, pain, unhappiness and illness during the rest of my life will help me to only identify with the not-self self and to attain the true inner death before the body dies i thought and i remembered a documentary recently on tv where a zen-master in japan showed the grave of his teacher and the graves of the teachers before and he pointed to an empty spot where his ash will be buried one day and he smiled and laughed and suddenly i understood whatīs so funny about that.
back at home alone i layed in bed most of sunday except for a short walk through the forest and paying a visit to my father in the old-peoples home. everything perfect and still and this bluish vision all day long.
on sunday evening i was very tired (slept only 4-5hrs/night the last few weeks and being awake since saturday 5am) and then slept deeply without deaming, 10 hours in a row. on monday i was still a bit exhausted but already able to do some sports and function in the world.

how iboga operates is truely magic. what it did for me is far better than anything expected. i could never image to get back to drug addiction. would be like going back to high school. recently did a line of the famous fawn powder and felt so bored. once fell in love with h but that seems to be like in a past life. looking back the circle of withdrawal and relapse, the loss of self-respect and hope, is a great preparation and training for letting go of oneīs self. and then no need for h or c after tasting some of the real wine.

cheers
ekki

does research with ibogaine that Patrick and you keep referencing, the
research isn't published, they get a patent and then nothing at all is
written about this for 50 years until Patrick writes his MAPS paper?

I've looked at google there are papers listing exactly that 'ibogaine
potentates morphine analgesia' it's even in Dana Beal's book though
impossible to find, what I don't understand is why didn't anyone do the
'anecdotal science' on it before Patrick? There are zillions of papers
about ibogaine everything, farting while on ibogaine, throwing up,
ibogaine everything. Nobody ever mentioned bythe way it does something
else, this is how to use it, these are the doses.

Weird stuff to overlook for 50 years. Nobody bothered to use the
patent, nobody did anything. Will the CIA arrive now or are they busy
injecting government morphine and ibogaine shots ;)

Watch out Ekki the CIA will deport you for dancing on ibogaine! :) :)

Dope is ridiculously cheap; ibogaine is extremely expensive.  Remove the black-market economics that the "War on Drugs" introduces into the equation, and it's a waste of time -- financially speaking.

If you want to feel your dope again; bang coke.

It's not a psychedelic speedball.  What's it's useful for is what I wrote: tapering down; resetting tolerance for chronic pain management patients who no longer derive relief no matter what insane doses they are on; and stabilizing at a reasonable level of narcotic analgesics instead of pushing tolerance into the stratosphere.

The patents are way-gone.

The rest of this is silly.

Have fun kidz,

p.s., Ya know ... ibogaine IS a sacred plant and an entheogen.  What you find depends on what you're looking for.  You may wanna figure out your intentions at some point -- not you Vector, I know your intent is to entertain yourself before you fall asleep until 5PM, the joyz of summer vacation -- cool things to aim for might be: stepping out of the darkness and living like a fuckin' slave, into freedom.  This is your basic right as a human being.

From:     HSLotsof@...
Subject:        Re: [Ibogaine] ibogaine and opiates?

Dear Vivienne,

There are a number of different issues that I had to address when I involved
myself in the possibility of developing ibogaine as a regulated medication to
treat chemical dependence.  The primary issues were safety and efficacy of
ibogaine in treating chemical dependence.  Drug development is time consuming and
expensive and FDA approval is narrow.  In other words you have to tell the
FDA exactly what the drug is going to be used for and how and then demonstrate
that it is safe at given doses and that it is effective.  The patents that I
filed in order to obtain financing for development concerned the use of doses of
ibogaine between 6 and 25 mg/kg.  What Schneider demonstrated in his studies
were a significant increase in toxicity when ibogaine and morphine were
combined.  This research used doses between 50 and 500 mg/kg of ibogaine and
morphine.  It is not uncommon to use higher doses in animal model studies than in
human studies to obtain effects.  Additionally, you cannot perform Lethal Dose
studies on human subjects.  Schneider also evaluated doses of morphine at 3
mg/kg combined with ibogaine at 6 mg/kg and 24 mg/kg that demonstrated significant
increased analgesia and longer lasting analgesia than from morphine alone.
To make it very simple our working group did not want freelance ibogaine
self-administrators taking ibogaine and opiates and increasing their risk in any way
so we provided information on the risk rather than instructions on how to go
about taking ibogaine and opiates together.

There is a very interesting paper by Vincent Sullivan et al., Detection and
Identification of Ibogaine and Heroin, in the journal of Criminal Law,
Criminology and Police Science, vol. 58, No. 2, 277-278, 1967, that concern itself
with the seizure of a heroin supply cut with ibogaine.  There are no further
reports of ibogaine/heroin mixes and I anticipate that after a few shots, the
ibogaine effect kicked in and some of the heroin dealer's customers stopped being
good customers.  Just an interesting sidenote.

As my ability to direct ibogaine research diminished, it was returned more
and more to lay experimenters as the medical community is very conservative and
Mash et al. had reasonable safety and ethical concern of experimenting with
the st. kitts patients.  After all it was experimentation but, hopefully not
something out of a horror movie:  The weird island of so and so.

Patrick published very useful information in his article on low dose
maintenance but, it requires skillful and knowledgeable drug users, which many, off of
this list are not.  And I cannot guarantee the skill of anyone on this list
either.  By the way Ciba's work was published.  Bogadin was Ciba's tradename
for ibogaine.

MCARTHUR M, SCHNEIDER JA.
Potentiation action of ibogaine (bogadin TM) on morphine analgesia.
Experientia. 1956 Aug 15;12(8):323-4.

It took 45 years to revisit this work because there was no interest in it
until it became interesting to drug users and drug using pain patients, where
Patrick today and myself twenty-five years ago decided certain ibogaine
information was important and published.  As for your friend going off and telling
people to take ibogaine and heroin there is nothing to stop him and I anticipate
there will be some adventurous types who may have access to both ibogaine and
heroin and listen.  My guess is that if they survive, that there use heroin
will not continue as previously, as the effects of ibogaine in controlled low
doses in combination with opiates is not generally what the thrill seeking heroin
using public is looking for.  That does not mean that there may not be some
fatalities along the way.  Same with all drugs.  Caveat emptor.

Howard

Unless I misunderstand everything I've ever heard or read about
ibogaine, doing heroin while doing a full dose of ibogaine to detox
will kill you.

I don't think anyone offering ibogaine treatment would ever do this, I
also don't think it makes the slightest difference legally in the
united states if a treatment provider is giving a "patient" ibogaine,
heroin or pure poison, because in the eyes of our great level system,
they're all the same, drug dealers selling schedule 1 drugs. Except
for maybe the poison, that's probably legal.

I am struck with the question does anyone read or only see what they
want and sensatenilize it. The article Patrick published in MAPS that
lists the actual dose levels and itemizes all the information on how
to do it, starts with that huge warning and then is talking about
doing doses of ibogaine at 25 to 50 mg total. It isn't talking about
detoxing anyone with ibogaine.

Exactly, your tolerance is most definitely lowered from Ibogaine...I did
some very very weak Ibogaine and after two days of being rather ill (but NOT
from withdrawals I must add..) I decided to CAUTIOUSLY take some poppy seed
tea (because yes the warnings were very clear in 2001 that one had to be
careful of overdose... so I had the smallest amount, probably a third of
what I was taking previous to taking Ibogaine...and it did the trick.  What
I get from that is not that taking any amount of opiate will kill you..
taking your normal to higher dose of opiate may/will probably kill you cos
you don't have the same tolerance.
Which opens up that door to people with hideous long term daily pain with
hideously long term opiate tolerances..........using small dose Ibogaine to
bring down tolerance.
This topic has been discussed a lot recently.... with numerous replies to
it, I'm a bit confused as to why there is still confusion? OR am I just
really confused...in all the confusion? Confused? YOU will be!

A high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method with fluorimetric
detection was developed for the simultaneous determination of ibogaine and
noribogaine in human plasma using fluorescein as internal standard. This method
involved a solid phase extraction of the compounds from plasma using
N-vinylpyrrolidone-divinybenzene copolymer cartridges. Separation of the three analytes was
performed on a reversed-phase Supelcosil C18 analytical column (75mmx4.6mm
i.d., 3mum particle size). The excitation wavelength was set at 230nm for the
first 15.8min and then at 440nm for the following 14.2min; the emission
wavelength was set at 336nm for the first 15.8min and then at 514nm for the following
14.2min. Obtained from the method validation, inter-assay precision was
6.0-12.5% and accuracy was 95.4-104%. The extraction efficiencies of the assay were
higher than 94% and were constant across the calibration range. The lower
limits of quantitation were 0.89ng/ml for ibogaine and 1ng/ml for noribogaine; at
these levels, precision was </=17% and accuracy was 95-105%. In this paper,
extensive stability testing was undertaken using a wide range of storage
conditions. Special attention must be paid to sample handling to avoid light
degradation of the compounds.

Just happened to spot your email out of 700 unread emails I have from the list. Sorry to anyone who has wrote to me via the list as I simply am unable to read it right now. Unfortunately i am too busy 10 hours a day 7 days a week at the moment working in the north of spain on a beach ..... to follow the list. Finish at the end of August. So i will be getting back to reading the list then and hopefully working on my next book project which will deal exclusively with everything I have to say on eboga, healing and spirituality. I am putting off the followup book to Amazing Grace.

I am very excited to bring out the next book as it will cover many new aspects of using eboga for low dose healing over an extended period. Right now my thoughts are in that direction.

Re: a copy of Amazing grace. it is available free to all people in the media. So if you write to the email address given here:
www.myeboga.com/freecopy.html, you will get a copy. Just put your name down as editor of Cures, Not Wars.

Let me know if you have a problem getting a copy and I will see what i can do.

All the best to you.

Lee
