San Francisco Ibogaine Forum:
New Directions in Treatment

This one-day event will gather experts and practitioners for a unique opportunity to discuss the progress and promise of the use of Ibogaine in the treatment of addiction.

The event is open to the general public, and is intended to be of interest to a broad range of people, including harm reduction advocates, addicts, students, teachers, therapists, healers, parents, and those with loved ones who need help.

IBOGAINE is a powerful natural medicine derived from the West African shrub T. iboga, which has been used by the Bwiti for countless years as a sacred plant teacher. Extensively studied for its pharmacological effects since the 1930's, much more recently the alkaloid was shown to be uniquely effective for addiction treatment: not only does the user receive powerful visions and insights about the nature and causes of their addiction but are also relieved of the physical urge to use again, often after a single treatment! The effect is best-studied in the case of opiates, and shows great promise in the treatment of other addictions as well.

Many have experienced the pain of loss due to addiction. Hard drugs disrupt and affect millions of lives daily in every part of the world. Being an addict often means living without hope or support, the things they most desperately need.

A plant-based medicine with extraordinary power works in a manner which acts upon the spiritual, mental and physical being, breaking the chains of addiction.

We welcome you to join this extraordinary panel of experts for one day in San Francisco:

I'll put it together for 6:30 Monday night.  The individuals I'd most
like to invite are my naturopathic colleagues (I am an ND), those that
only know of iboga via moi, and some of the local individuals in town
that may be interested, I'm sure you are probably used to a pretty
diverse crowd.  It's short notice, but as long as you're in, I'll try to
put it together tomorrow.  Mon, Dec 2, 6:30 pm at the Kirstin Gallery,
next door to the University Health Clinic, 5312 Roosevelt Way NE.  A few
bldgs north of Dante's, for those that know Seattle.
Feel free to invite the others you are traveling with- WE WANT TO LEARN
ABOUT OPTIONS AND POTENTIAL.

We have a small 2-bedroom house in Freemont, north-central Seattle. A
futon folds out in the living room, and there is a couch in the

CANNABIS LINK TO BLUES

Research Shows Drug Use Brings Increased Risk Of Depression

POWERFUL new evidence that regular cannabis smoking by teenagers causes
depression in young adulthood has prompted a call for it to be taken as
seriously as heroin and amphetamines in government drug-control efforts.

George Patton, leader of a seven-year Australian study of 1600 teenagers,
said doctors already accepted that cannabis use and depression often went
together, but "we haven't known what is the chicken and what is the egg".

"(Now) we're able to say cannabis use predisposes towards later
depression," said the Professor of Adolescent Health at Melbourne's Murdoch
Children's Research Institute.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA IN NEW YORK

As the Marijuana Reform Party Licks Its Wounds, MPP Funds New
Legislative Effort

Tom Golisano, the independent candidate for New York governor, didn't
succeed in knocking off Republican incumbent Gov. George Pataki, but
his last minute TV and radio ad blitz in New York City markets
supporting medical marijuana may well have doomed the efforts of the
New York Marijuana Reform Party (http://www.marijuanareform.org), as
well as the Libertarians and the Greens, to win ballot line status for
the next four years. Gubernatorial candidates needed to win 50,000
votes statewide to earn that status. The MRP's Tom Leighton pulled in
only 22,500 votes, and he's pointing a big finger at the Golisano campaign.

"He ripped off our position, he ripped off our brochure -- his ads
repeated the identical factual error we had in our brochure -- and he
ripped off our voters," Leighton told DRCNet. "I never saw such an
assault on public consciousness as his medical marijuana media
campaign here.

20 ATTEND VIGIL FOR DOG SHOT BY POLICE

Holding candles and bracing themselves against the blustery wind, about 20
people gathered in front of police headquarters to mourn the loss of a
family pet last night.

"We're here to mourn the death of Bear," said Florine Morrison, founder of
the London Animal Alliance.

The group organized a 30-minute candlelight vigil on Dundas Street to
remember the six-year-old dog police shot and killed while searching the
wrong Oxford Street apartment for drugs.

"This is more than just a mistake," she said. "They shot the dog in the
back and they broke into an innocent woman's apartment and that kind of
mistake is pretty much unforgivable."

Marcie Carroll, 22, had recently moved into her apartment and started a new
job when police burst in and killed Bear.

BUST-HAPPY COPS IN RACINE?

More Fallout From A Now-Infamous Halloween Raid

What began as a Halloween fund-raiser for one of Racine's oldest theaters
became a cash cow for the city's Police Department Nov. 2 when more than
400 people were issued $1,000 citations for being "patrons of a disorderly
house."

In the aftermath of the Haunted House benefit busts, however, the American
Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin and other critics are crying rave
paranoia-and hinting that a flood of ticket challenges could clog and
embarrass Racine's City Hall.

"We've never received as many complaints for a single event as we have with
the Racine case," says ACLU of Wisconsin Executive Director Chris Ahmuty.
The local chapter will be working with the national organization's National
Drug Policy Task Force since the citations may violate Fifth Amendment
protections against unreasonable search and seizure.

FYI: George Washington grew marijuana in his garden.

MARIJUANA MAYHEM

California patients' rights to medical marijuana may go up in smoke if
feds get their way

When quiet, unassuming Donovan No Runner decided to smoke marijuana on the
steps to the San Luis Obispo County courthouse last month, he sparked more
than a joint ... he may have ignited a strategically vital state's rights
battle with imminent national consequences.

At stake could be no less than the very future of the U.S. government's
expensively accelerating campaign against drugs, with its renewed emphasis
on stubbing out smoking-quality hemp and dousing the weed's reputedly
growing threat to the fabric of 21st century society.

MEDICAL POT CAREGIVER SUES CASCADE STEEL

A former employee of Cascade Steel Rolling Mills in McMinnville is
suing the company for $1.46 million, alleging he was wrongfully
terminated after testing positive for marijuana.

Douglas Heuer, a registered caregiver in the state's medical marijuana
program, contends Cascade officials engaged in unlawful employment
practices, wrongful discharge and breach of good faith when they
dismissed him in July 2001.

The firing came eight months after the crane Heuer was operating
damaged a power line, prompting company managers to ask the
44-year-old man to submit to drug and alcohol testing. According to
court records, the testing turned up traces of marijuana and Heuer was
placed on probation.

DRUG PLAN WASTE OF RESOURCES, CITY TOLD

More Drug Users Will Come Here, U.S. Official Warns

American drug czar John Walters says Vancouver's proposed safe-injection
sites for drug users are a waste of resources that should go to helping
addicts get clean.

And, he told reporters after a speech to the Vancouver Board of Trade
Wednesday, any policy that makes life easier for drug users will only
attract more drug users.

Walters' speech on America's drug policy was punctuated by frequent booing
and heckling from a table of people that included B.C. Marijuana Party
leader Marc Emery.

ERB OFFERS THE HERB

MAYORAL candidate Bob Erb latched onto an innovative way to get his vote
out - offer voters free marijuana and a ride to the polls. That's exactly
what he did Nov. 13, the day of the advance poll in Terrace.

Erb didn't take the mayor's chair from Jack Talstra, and clerks said the
turnout was no heavier than in previous years.

Two 18-year-old Caledonia students were among those who voted and then
headed straight to the carpenters hall - where Erb held an open house
offering free marijuana, pop, sandwiches and snacks.

"There's a box of pot up there and people can help themselves to that," Erb
said, as he welcomed visitors.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA ACTIVIST WINS ROUND ONE

SECHELT, B.C. - Canadian authorities have dropped charges against an
American living in Sechelt, who uses marijuana to help him deal with his
cancer.

In Sechelt court on Monday, charges of cultivating and possession for the
purpose of trafficking against Steve Kubby were dropped, and the judge
ordered the return of his growing equipment and the marijuana seized by the
RCMP.

"They were really concerned about our welfare and about doing the right
thing," says Kubby. "And we've never seen that in a court before."

However, as Kubby celebrates his court victory, he is also preparing for
another fight an eight-day immigration hearing next March in Vancouver.

He fears politicians who oppose the decriminalization of marijuana will use
him as an example and try to remove him from Canada.

"They're looking at me as as being a symbol for hoards of potheads coming
up from America and taking over Canada if they let me in," he says. "It's a
big deal. The government knows if they send me back to the United States
it's a death warrant for me."

Kubby faced charges in the U.S. before coming to Canada as a visitor, and
then claimed refugee status.

He was recently given a Health Canada exemption for medical marijuana
because of his cancer.

Legal Group Blasts Papa Shrub on Bin Laden Link
Bush Sr. Could Profit From War
by Geoffrey Gray
October 11th, 2001 1:45 PM
arry Klayman likes suing the United States government. Over the last seven years as chairman and general counsel of Judicial Watch, a public interest law firm in Washington, he has filed over 150 lawsuits against the feds, including more than 80 against former president Bill Clinton himself. Called the Ralph Nader of the right, Klayman has litigation habits considered by some Beltway insiders as wildly ambitious. Others think he's just plain crazy.

But now Klayman and Judicial Watch are pawing in disbelief through President George W. Bush's past business connections with the Saudi-based Bin Laden family. The firm is demanding that GWB's father, the original President Bush, immediately resign from his post as a paid senior adviser to the Carlyle Group, a private Washington equity firm that according to The New York Times has essentially become the nation's 11th largest defense contractor.

Carlyle's investors include the Bin Laden family, which has disowned its terrorist son Osama; Bush Sr.; and former Bush inner guard members Nick Carlucci and James Baker. Judicial Watch says all involved stand to benefit from any increase in U.S. defense spending.

"It's mind-boggling," says Klayman. "This conflict of interest has now turned into a scandal." With the recent U.S. air strikes in Afghanistan, Klayman says, the conflict of interest is now "direct."
Klayman questions why Bush the Younger is not aggressively pursuing Saudi Arabia, a country known to harbor terrorists. He points to Bush the Elder's business connections there, like the Saudi-based Bin Laden family, through Carlyle. "President Bush should not ask, but demand, that his father pull out of the Carlyle Group," says Klayman.

Neither former president Bush÷who has continued advising his son on handling the war on terrorism÷nor the Carlyle Group returned calls seeking comment.
In a case of "like father, like son," President Bush also had connections to the Carlyle Group, the Voice has learned. In the years before his 1994 bid for Texas governor, Bush owned stock in and sat on the board of directors of Caterair, a service company that provided airplane food and was also a component of Carlyle. For his consulting position, Bush was paid $15,000 a year, according to a Texas insider, and a bonus $1000 for every meeting he attended÷roughly $75,000 in total. Reports show Carlyle was also a major contributor to his electoral fund.

Upon hearing about the Bush-Bin Laden family connection, other Washington nonprofits have joined Judicial Watch in expressing their concern.
"Carlyle is as deeply wired into the current administration as they can possibly be," Charles Lewis, executive director of the Center for Public Integrity, told Bushwatch.org. "George Bush is getting money from private interests that have business before the government, while his son is president. And, in a really peculiar way, George W. Bush could, some day, benefit financially from his own administration's decisions, through his father's investments. The average American doesn't know that. To me, that's a jaw-dropper."

DEFENSE SEEKS VENUE CHANGE IN CASE AGAINST DRUG AGENT

Lawyers for a federal drug agent who is facing manslaughter charges in
Brooklyn asked a federal court to take the case away from the New York
courts yesterday in an unusual move that may expose a bitter division over
the case between federal and state law enforcement officials.

The Drug Enforcement Administration agent, Jude Tanella, shot an unarmed
drug suspect in the back, killing him, after a wild chase and violent
struggle in East Flatbush in May. The Brooklyn district attorney, Charles
J. Hynes, took the case to a grand jury after as many as a dozen civilian
witnesses described the shooting. Mr. Tanella was indicted on manslaughter
charges on Oct. 29.

The case has drawn attention because of a series of twists, including
assertions by the family of the victim, Egbert David Dewgard, that he
worked so hard at his Brooklyn print shop that he would not have had the
time to be a high-ranking member of a drug crew, as has been claimed by
drug investigators.

CHAVEZ TIED TO COLOMBIA REBELS

CARACAS, Venezuela - Dissident military officers say the government of
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has provided intelligence help and
unhindered operations in Venezuelan territory to guerrilla groups fighting
the government of neighboring Colombia.

Several of the officers, who recently declared themselves in disobedience
and demanded Mr. Chavez's resignation, say the government also has opposed
their efforts to combat guerrillas active on Venezuelan territory.

Also, the Colombian newsmagazine Cambio reported recently that the
Venezuelan military had sold and at times even given planeloads of arms to
the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), which is classified as a
terrorist group by the U.S. government.

COLOMBIAN ADMIRAL RESIGNS AFTER US DRUG ACCUSATION

BOGOTA (AP)--Colombian Rear Adm. Rodrigo Quinones, who serves as the
country's military attache to Israel, resigned Tuesday after U.S. officials
accused him of drug trafficking, the defense minister said.

Quinones is the highest-ranking military official in recent memory to be
implicated in drug trafficking in Colombia, which produces most of the
world's cocaine and most of the heroin used in the United States. Quinones
has also been accused of failing to protect villagers who were massacred in
northern Colombia last year by right-wing paramilitary gunmen, when Quinones
was stationed in the region.

The U.S. State Department last week announced it had revoked Quinones' U.S.
visa because of his alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

Defense Minister Martha Lucia Ramirez did not refer directly to the
allegation when she announced Quinones had resigned.

"The resignation was accepted by the national government taking into account
the need to preserve our military institutions and assure the country ...
that the members of the security forces are above any stain," Ramirez told a
news conference.

A glorified con man who was smart enough to learn everything and then corrupted it all to destroy systems and people's lives. None of you were learning and contributing anything, all of you stole money and used your power to fuck over people you wanted to destroy.

Drugs are for losers.

I am disgusted that Mindvox is now some promotional service for ibogaine and psychedelic drugs. Every other banner is some drug site. The login now lists psychedlic drugs conferences. Who cares about ibogaine. I don't think it's fair that nearly everyone who knows what Mindvox is comes here and finds this junk instead. It's like using a legend that had great meaning to sell used cars.

Sorry, but I've done a lot of drugs, suffered extensive neurological
damage, and in fact it's a miracle I'm as high-functioning as I am.  I
have no recollection of the events in question.

Here's a rationalization: no action that "we" allegedly took, is any worse
than what our glorious Gub'mint is grabbing up for itself as we speak,
while it rewrites pretty much all laws that pertain to individual privacy,
and freedom.  "And we will stamp out freedom until there are no terrorists
left!  (Inside my mind)."  If anything, we were more ethical 'bout it.

Here's another answer: "Power corrupts, absolute power is kinda neat."
With thanks to Bill Ross for that quote.

Look, THAT'S IT.  THAT right there, is why I'm even replying to your
message.  Allow me to 'splain.  OS/X *is* NeXTSTEP 2002.  It's the
Batmobile.  Solaris is a rusted, dented, atomic powered tank, dragging 18
phone lines behind it, that JUST KEEPS GOING.  Windoze (all versions,
including eXtra Problems), is a Pinto held together with superglue.  But
it has a life size photo of a Lexus hung in front of it, and most people
never make it past that.

What decade are you in...?  Solaris *IS* open source.  The source code was
released years ago.  OS/X is running Mach, with a BSD 4.4 kernel called
Darwin.  It is OPEN SOURCE.  In fact, here:

http://www.opendarwin.org/

Linux is ... very interesting, if you're a kid, who wants to learn about
unix.  God bless, play with it.  It becomes much less interesting if you
do not have infinite spare time and actually need to use the computer to
accomplish something useful RIGHT NOW, not 18 revisions later when 12 of
the libs which are at 0.6.2.1 become stable enough to not core dump every
10 clicks.

If you want a stable, bulletproof, open source server, then BSD kicks
Linux's ass in.

Oh shaddup, go smoke some crack, and jack off to your Richard Stallman and
Linus Torvalds photo collection.

Resedit,

Gee, thanks for sharing, you know so much. Got a
couple questions for ya.

What OS, hardware and software do YOU THINK Mindvox
should be run on? This is really important to recovery
so get it right.

Make a detailed list of what Mindvox should be. Better
yet, design the entire site complete with all coding
and content and send it off to Patrick, I am sure he
will be tickled.

Please tell us what is wrong with ibogaine, you know,
challenge its anti-addictive properties, tell us how
it don't work and didn't work for us, how it is
nothing more than some kind of ACID (or whatever you
believe) - that I (for instance) am lying. Remember to
use citations with your claims.

Tell us what you think is better than ibogiane and
why, maybe UROD tickles you, or maybe you think
addicts should be simply lined up and shot, maybe
burned at the stake.

What religion should we all follow? What is your
religion?

What should we read, what shouldn't we read? Do you
read, if so what?

What kind of sex can we have (if any)? Do you have
sex, if so with what?

Who should our friends be? Who are your friends?

What thoughts are evil and which ones are good? For
instance is getting you strung out and dropping you
off in Harlem (naked with a sign that says "I HATE
NIGGERS") a good thought or a bad one? OK, skip the
Harlem bit, just get you strung out, take your dope
away and see if ibogaine works or not - I think that
is a good thought, what do you think? It is simple,
effective and straight forward, and VERY convincing...

What kinds of foods can we eat? What do you eat? How
much do you weigh/what is your height?

List all medications we can and cannot have as well as
when we are allowed and not allowed to take them.

What medications are you on? Do you drink? Do you
smoke? Do you use Sugar?

What kinds of activities should we report to the
authorities or should we just report everything and
let them sort it out?

What things can we say and what things can't we say?

In fact, give us a list of everything we should do and
everything we should not do, be detailed and specific.

I need this list so I don't sin any longer, it is up
to you to enlighten me, if not you are the sinner who
will burn in hell forever for not spreading the word.

TC MAN WANTS SON TO USE PEYOTE

Gt Band Member Wants Son, 4, to Participate in His Church's Peyote-Laden Rites

WHITE CLOUD (AP) - A Michigan man said Friday the court system is
restricting his religious freedom by prohibiting his 4-year-old son
from being given peyote during American Indian spiritual ceremonies.

"This burdens me," said Jonathan Fowler, 35, a member of the Grand
Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.

Fowler, of Traverse City, testified in Newaygo County Family Court
during a legal hearing stemming from a custody dispute with his
ex-wife, Kristin Hanslovsky, 31, of Montague.

Please subscribe to new MMM email list. Public archive still open.

The public MMM email list at Yahoo Groups now requires people to subscribe
in order to post messages to the list and the public archive. For a few
weeks I set it up so that non-members could also send in email messages to
the list. That was to help people send in MMM rally reports. It worked.
The archive also got some spam too. That was deleted. But people should
keep sending in MMM-related stuff. Just subscribe first.

The MMM message archive itself is still public and accessible to anybody:
