Recently we wrote you that we need on average $100 for each affiliate to print  and ship this year's poster--and that if you can't send it, we have to raise it somewhere else.

You can help. Go to http://www.yippiespeakers.com  Here's the good news: 20% of all speaker fees go to printing and operating expenses for the MMM 2004. (If you can get me booked personally it's 100%.)

Some of these speakers like Grace Slick and Hunter Thompson get $25,000 just for appearing at yr local university! (Some like Dennis Peron are available for a few thousand) Your local group gets 4% finders' fee.

What we need you to do is contact yr local on-campus activists and have them agitate their student affairs folks in charge of outside speakers  (or equivalent) to book some of our speakers. It's important to clarify that we are NOT  asking them to get this from the budget of their NORML or SSDP chapter, but from the campus office that books outside speakers. (At Kent State they call it the Office of Student Life, and they paid me $4,000 for a three hour appearance, which went straight to the printer.)

It's a good year for it. Things have come full-circle for Yippie! We have all the elements--an illegitimate  Republican President everyone hates at home, a quagmire war abroad--for the first time  since the '70's. And best of all, even though all our speakers support cannabis and oppose the drug war, they are Yippie, not legalization speakers, so you won't have to deal with demands from the university administration that you find some anti-drug speaker for "Balance" or you don't get the booking. (Since we are moving toward protests against the Republican Convention in NYC next August, to be fair they'd have to demand an opponent of protests, period, which is absurd.)

Are you goin´ to print posters, leaflets also.?

If so, please send some to us (to the address below). 3000 leaflets and 300

In next month issue of the "Hanf Journal" (Hemp Journal  monthly, free

Unfortunately the first of May is an historical date in Germany. During WWII
the Unions where prohibited. We are demonstrating against a prohibition too,

police  that is why we have to do the MMM in Frankfurt at the 8th of may.

films, lectures and a big GOA Party.

    Since you noted that cities have to coordinate around different events, (we competed with the Wailers last year & they ALWAYS play that weekend here) it would be really great if you could leave a space for the date. Then all we would have to do is print labels and put the on the flyers/posters. We've done this in the past to put march details with groups of people hanging out, even at restaurants. While vacationing on his ranch one August day, George "Dubya" Bush gets thrown from his horse, lands on a rattlesnake, gets bit and unfortunately dies because the emergency room at the nearest hospital is too understaffed to treat him in time. So his soul arrives in heaven and he is met by St. Peter at the Pearly Gates.

"Welcome to Heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem: We seldom see a Republican around these parts, so we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in; I'm a believer." says Dubya.

"I'd like to just let you in, but I have orders from the Man Himself:

He says you have to spend one day in Hell and one day in Heaven. Then you must choose where you'll live for eternity."

"But, I've already made up my mind; I want to be in Heaven."

"I'm sorry, but we have our rules." And with that, St. Peter escorts him to an elevator and he goes down, down, down, all the way to Hell.

The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a lush golf course; the sun is shining in a cloudless sky, the temperature a perfect 72 degrees.

In the distance is a beautiful clubhouse. Standing in front of it his dad...and thousands of other Republicans who had helped him out over the years.. Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, Jerry Falwell .... The whole of the "Right" was there .... everyone laughing ... happy .... casually but expensively dressed.

They run to greet him, hug him, and reminisce about the good times they had getting rich at expense of the "suckers and peasants". They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster and caviar.

The Devil himself comes up to Bush with a frosty drink, "Have a Margarita and relax, Dubya!"

"Uh, I can't drink no more, I took a pledge," says Junior, dejectedly. "This is Hell, son: you can drink and eat all you want and not worry, and it just gets better from there!"

Dubya takes the drink and finds himself liking the Devil, who he thinks is a really very friendly guy who tells funny jokes and pulls hilarious nasty pranks, kind of like a Yale Skull and Bones brother with real horns.

They are having such a great time that, before he realizes it, it's time to go.

Everyone gives him a big hug and waves as Bush steps on the elevator and heads upward.

When the elevator door reopens, he is in Heaven again and St. Peter is waiting for him. "Now it's time to visit Heaven," the old man says, opening the gate.

So for 24 hours Bush is made to hang out with a bunch of honest, good- natured people who enjoy each other's company, talk about things other than money, and treat each other decently. Not a nasty prank or frat boy joke among them; no fancy country clubs and, while the food tastes great, it's not caviar or lobster. And these people are all poor, he doesn't see anybody he knows, and he isn't even treated like someone special! Worst of all, to Dubya, Jesus turns out to be some kind of Jewish hippie with his endless 'peace' and 'do unto others' jive.

"Whoa," he says uncomfortably to himself, "Pat Robertson never prepared me for this!"

The day done, St. Peter returns and says, "Well, then, you've spent a day in Hell and a day in Heaven. Now choose where you want to live for eternity." With the 'Jeopardy' theme playing softly in the background, Dubya reflects for a minute, then answers: "Well, I would never have thought I'd say this -- I mean, Heaven has been delightful and all -- but I really think I belong in Hell with my friends."

So Saint Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down, all the way to Hell.

The doors of the elevator open and he is in the middle of a barren scorched earth covered with garbage and toxic industrial waste...kind of like Houston. He is horrified to see all of his friends, dressed in rags and chained together, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags. They are groaning and moaning in pain, faces and hands black with grime

The Devil comes over to Dubya and puts an arm around his shoulder.

"I don't understand," stammers a shocked Dubya, "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and a clubhouse and we ate lobster and caviar...drank booze. We screwed around and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and everybody looks miserable!"

The Devil looks at him, smiles slyly, and purrs, "Yesterday we were campaigning; today you voted for us."

Surprising Things about People We Thought We Knew

Captain Kangaroo turned 76 recently, which is odd, because he's never looked a day under 76. (DOB:6/27/27) It reminded me of the following story.

Some people have been a bit offended that the actor, Lee Marvin, is buried in a grave alongside 3 and 4 star generals at Arlington national Cemetery. His marker gives his name, rank (PVT) and service (USMC). Nothing else. Here's a guy who was only a famous movie star who served his time, why the heck does he rate burial with these guys?

Well, following is the amazing answer: I always liked Lee Marvin, but did not know the extent of his Corps experiences.

In a time when many Hollywood stars served their country in the armed forces often in rear-echelon posts where they were carefully protected, only to be trotted out to perform for the cameras in war bond promotions, Lee Marvin was a genuine hero. He won the Navy Cross at Iwo Jima. There is only one higher Naval award .. the Medal Of Honor. If that is a surprising comment on the true character of the man, he credits his sergeant with an even greater show of bravery.

Dialogue from The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson:

His guest was Lee Marvin.

Johnny said, "Lee, I'll bet a lot of people are unaware that you were a Marine in the initial landing at Iwo Jima..and that during the course of that action you earned the Navy Cross and were severely wounded." "Yeah, yeah... I got shot square in the ass and they gave me the Cross for securing a hot spot about halfway up Suribachi...bad thing about getting shot up on a mountain is guys gettin' shot hauling you down. But, Johnny, at Iwo Jima I served under the bravest man I ever knew... We both got the cross the same day, but what he did for his Cross made mine look cheap in comparison.

The dumb bastard actually stood up on Red beach and directed his troops to move forward and get the hell off the beach. That Sergeant and I have been lifelong friends. When they brought me off Suribachi we passed the Sergeant and he lit a smoke and passed it to me, lying on my belly on the litter and he said, 'Where'd they get you Lee?'

Johnny, I'm not lying...Sergeant Keeshan was the bravest man I ever knew..... The Sergeant's name is Bob Keeshan...

On another note, there was this wimpy little man (who just passed away) on PBS, who was gentle and quiet.

Mr. Rogers is another of those you would least suspect of being anything but what he now portrays to our youth. But Mr. Rogers was a US Navy Seal, combat proven in Vietnam with over twenty-five confirmed kills to his name.

He wore a long sleeve sweater on his show to cover the many tattoos on his forearm and biceps. A master in small arms and hand-to-hand combat, able to disarm or kill in a heartbeat.

After the war, Mr. Rogers became an ordained Presbyterian minister and therefore a pacifist. Vowing to never harm another human and also dedicating the rest of his life to trying to help lead children on the right path in life. He hid the tattoos and his past life away and won our hearts with his quiet wit and charm.

America's real heroes don't flaunt what they did, they quietly go about their day-to-day lives, doing what they do best. They earned our respect and the freedoms that we all enjoy.

Look around and see if you can find one of those heroes in your midst. Often, they are the ones you'd least suspect, but would most like to have on your side if anything ever happened.

Take the time to thank anyone that has fought for our freedom. With encouragement they could be the next Captain Kangaroo or Mr. Rogers.

To ask a question that I wonder about sometimes with
what some of you are doing in particular with
methadone. I read a few times that patrick was on 200
and then doing xanax and 2 or 3 grams of heroin over
that every day and I thought that was insane, you said
you were on 180, marc posted how he is detoxing
someone from methadone who was on 400? (sorry if I got
the exact number wrong marc I am not reading my
ibogaine folder i'm only remembering it). Then this
person is on 610mg of methadone?????

In some ways maybe I am naive and its reaching the
stage where it would not shock me for someone to speak

up in the future and say they are on 1200mg or 2000mg
of methadone and I guess if you keep raising your
tolerence it is possible but my question is why do any

of you do this??? Do any of you even feel heroin when
you are on 180 or 200, I know you can't feel it when
you're on 610 or am I wrong?

Why do you keep going up until you are at such a huge
dose? Do you keep using at the lower doses or not feel
good and then somewhere at some humongous dose level
it gets better for you? Does anyone really need 610mg
of methadone to feel normal or even 400, 200. I was on
80 and that was a lot. Is there really a difference
for you between 400mg and 610?

Why keep going up and up when you know that after a
while you're not even going to feel it anymore and
then you will be on that dose of methadone. I think
most states wont even go over 100mg in most cases,
where is it that all of you are doing methadone
maintennce that they keep letting you escalate?

Please understand im not in any way judging anyone i'm
only wanting to understand why any of you did this to
yourselves. I know how addiction works but I still
have a hard time understanding numbers like 200mg,
400mg, 600mg. I really do keep waiting for someone to
show up and say 'i'm on 2000mg of methadone, will
ibogaine work for me?' will it work for them?

no matter what I always find a lot of hope here. Jolly

Hi Carla,

Well, there are people on 1000mg of methadone and if my memory serves me
there are a few people receiving 2000mg/day or close to it.   The doses are
determined by the comfort of the patient.  There are very few methadone providers
who will dose patients at these doses but, 200 - 300mgs doses are becoming more
common.  When methadone maintenance was first started by Dole and Nyswander it
was not uncommon to see 200mg+ doses and then when the program expanded in
the 1970s the doses initially were in the 100mg range for most patients.  As
time went on various states and doctors not experienced with methadone limited
the amount of methadone one could receive or that they would give and you saw
low doses in the 40mg range that were not sufficient for blockade to stop heroin

craving.  In 2003, a set of new federal regulations were introduced that
transferred control of methadone regulation from the FDA to the Substance Abuse
and Mental Health Services Administration.  These regulations removed dose caps

and indicated better results were seen in the 80-120mg range of methadone. 
The new regulations were adapted in an attempt to bring methadone maintenance
into mainstream medicine.  The regulations were less onerous concerning
treatment of patients than the previous regulations and required accreditation of
methadone clinics by the same agencies that accredit hospitals and other health
care facilities.  The federal guidelines set minimal standards for patients
rights and treatment.  States may provide stricter guidelines in some areas and
individual clinics stricter guidelines than the states.  Some area where this is

seen is in the number of urine tests required (the federal guidelines require
only 8 per year) and how many takehome doses a patient may have (the new

federal guidelines allow up to 30).

As with all drugs, individual pharmacological dynamics play an important part
and experienced methadone doctors believe that the correct dose for any given
patient is one where the patient feels comfortable and heroin and or other
opioid craving has ceased.  For some patients, this dose may be over 1000mg/day
of methadone though the vast majority of patients are receiving doses of
between 60mg and 120mg/day.

Thanks Howard for your response to Carlas question.
I too, had the same questions she had but was unable to ask in the eloquent way she did.
In fact, I was having a hard time believing many of the things being said about Ibogaine because I thought folks were 'stretching' their truth quite a bit.
Guess I need to be less judgmental and more open minded! I am cautious to be that way because I feel it got me to where I am today! lol!
