Recently we wrote you that we need on average $100 for each affiliate to print  and ship this year's poster--and that if you can't send it, we have to raise it somewhere else.

Some of these speakers like Grace Slick and Hunter Thompson get $25,000 just for appearing at yr local university! (Some like Dennis Peron are available for a few thousand) Your local group gets 4% finders' fee.

What we need you to do is contact yr local on-campus activists and have them agitate their student affairs folks in charge of outside speakers  (or equivalent) to book some of our speakers. It's important to clarify that we are NOT  asking them to get this from the budget of their NORML or SSDP chapter, but from the campus office that books outside speakers. (At Kent State they call it the Office of Student Life, and they paid me $4,000 for a three hour appearance, which went straight to the printer.)

It's a good year for it. Things have come full-circle for Yippie! We have all the elements--an illegitimate  Republican President everyone hates at home, a quagmire war abroad--for the first time  since the '70's. And best of all, even though all our speakers support cannabis and oppose the drug war, they are Yippie, not legalization speakers, so you won't have to deal with demands from the university administration that you find some anti-drug speaker for "Balance" or you don't get the booking. (Since we are moving toward protests against the Republican Convention in NYC next August, to be fair they'd have to demand an opponent of protests, period, which is absurd.)

Montel to do a show on MMJ Jan. 13!


On November 3, Montel Williams was briefly detained at Detroit Metro Airport, where baggage screeners found a glass pipe and residue of a marijuana by-product in his bags. That's when the talk show host, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, was outed as a user of the herb for medicinal purposes.

In his first interview after the airport discovery, Williams makes no apologies. In fact, he devotes several chapters to the case for medical marijuana in his new autobiography, "Climbing Higher," in bookstores today. He clears the air to TV Guide Online.

Q. What happened to you in Detroit?

A. When my bags were going through a metal detector at the Detroit airport, the security people found my needles. I take injectable drugs every day. Then, one guy found a perfectly clean glass pipe that looks like an egg. He said, "What do you smoke in it?" I said, "None of your business." And it pissed him off. I also had a little bottle that had been in my bag for a month. It had less than a twentieth of a gram of kef residue. He called the police. They had to give me a paraphernalia violation. (Williams paid a $100 fine.) They said there was too little to bother testing.

Q. Have you done a show on medical marijuana?

A. I'm doing a show on Jan. 13 about the book and this issue. The model Emme, whose father died of MS complications, is going to interview me. I think it's time for a change. I hope to inspire others to take a stand. You cannot tell me that if one of George Bush's daughters came to him and said, "This is the only thing that will help my pain," he'd say, "No, baby, you have to suffer. I'll lay you down on a bed and hook you up to a morphine drip, and when you wake up in four or five days, we'll talk."

Q. Why do you use it?

A. It eases depression in some ways. It helps sleeping disorders and it eases nerve pain.

Q. Why not use any of the legal painkillers?

A. I attempted to use some. Oxycontin and Vicodin are extremely addictive. Percocet didn't work. Marijuana is the best tool for me.

'Njweedman' indicted for refusing to submit DNA; faces jail time

            Marijuana-legalization advocate Ed "njweedman" Forchion may be heading

back to jail.

            On Thursday, a grad jury indicted the Pemberton Township resident for

refusing to submit a DNA sample, which under a new state law is required of all state

prisoners and parolees.

            Forchion, who was convicted in October 2000 of possessing 40 pounds of

marijuana, has challenged the constitutionality of the law in federal court. Since he

was released from state prison in April 2002, Forchion believes it is an after-the-fact

form of punishment that is also an illegal invasion of his privacy.

             "Its about the Constitution, and this is another unconstitutional Act on the part

of the state," Forchion said.

             The law, which Gov. James McGreevey signed Sept 22, expanded the

crimes for which DNA samples can be collected for inclusion in a database. Under

the previous law, Forchion would not have to provide a DNA sample.

            Bill Shralow, spokesman for the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, said

he was was not aware of anyone else who has failed to comply with the new law.

            "This particular indictment only applies to Mr. Forchion, but clearly the

message is, people need to comply with court orders to submit DNA samples, or

they can be held responsible," Shralow said.

 

             Forchion is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow in state Superior Court in
 Camden. If convicted, he faces up to 18 months in prison.

be responsible for "runner's high," the euphoric feeling that some people get when they
exercise, U.S. researchers say.  High levels of anandamide were found in young men who

this week by the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of California,
Irvine.

9-11 Widow Files rico Lawsuit

PHILADELPHIA, Jan 6 -- Ellen Mariani, whose husband died in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks when UAL 175 was flown into the World Trade Center, has filed suit in a US District Court alleging Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld and other co-defendents had sufficient warning to stop the terrorist attacks but failed to either warn or protect the public.

According to a recent CBS News report, the Republican 9-11 Commission Chairman agrees:

Mariani's suit also charges the Bush Administration with burying evidence of its failure and refusing to release vital information.

Philadelphia Attorney Philip J. Berg, who filed the suit on Mariani's behalf, says the Administration must be held accountable. Berg launched the suit on November 26, and has since put up a website explaining the details of Mariani vs Bush, et al. The Bush Administration is currently trying to have the charges dismissed in court.

Public support is critical, says Berg, who has posted an online petition.  "We need at least a million signatures for them to take it seriously." He added that mounting a class action is also being considered. Concerned citizens are urged to read and sign the petition here:

Hi Callie, I wasn't on a huge dose like some people on
this list, I was at 80mg. I've been on mmt for a
little over 3 years, it was my second time on
methadone maintenence. I was on heroin for almost 6
years, I've been mostly clean for 2 years now, not
counting mostly  I've been off all opiates for 12
months now, I'm not on any other medication and yes I
do smoke pot  I took ibogaine 3 times in total,
each time I lasted a little longer until this last
time where I kept lasting

Because your dose of methadone is 650mg the procedure will be experimental
more than most.  You will also have the opportunity to determine if you want to
come off of methadone or drop your dose and/or simply feel more comfortable as
a methadone patient.  Of course how you approach is will have to be a
decision between yourself and the provider who treats you.  Basically, it will be a
dose and see protocol.

I just read your camerounese experience after answering you. Sorry for the

I can understand what is your feeling after so much violence. I saw bad
comportement from initiate people . Even sometimes when I saw how they act,
I asked myself why giving iboga to this man. He just need to eat "caca de
poules"( chicken shit).
Yes in Africa, people spoke strongly with violence, yes they robe your money
, yes you have to take care of your pocket, even in the Bwiti, yes they can

brings machettes......etc Africa has a strong past and I saw in Gabon how

much was the influence of colonisation and religion(mostly christian).
Mind is broken....but still alive and the réunification with the past
through iboga and Bwiti is an interesting road because we crossed on the
same ways.
This is why the rituals and protocoles are interresting(you have to find
good master), because like in School or every where, students or teachers
can be bad but the program is interesting. You can learn for your
environment..
Before in the Bwiti they were working with ancestor crâne, and others bad
things, now with the people with I'm working they decide to stop black or
white magie or sorcellery and just works for the light and to exchange
knowledge because it is the way to survive.
Sorry for the music but you had probably bad musicians. Because I have
discovered the Mongongo ( arc en bouche) great instrument and what about
harp or percussions or songs with female voice..........The voice of the
mongongo it is the iboga road.......

For sure, I agree with you. And, furthermore, a lot of the work done in
shamanism and also therapy requires a strong ego. You aren't going to be
able to lead people into their own fear if you come on to them like a
dithering, uncertain idiot. A bit of bravado definitely has its uses. And,
in both Western and African settings, a bit of showmanship doesn't go amiss
either. BUT, it's also, imo, worth being aware that the risk of all this
ego-strengthening is that you, as a shaman, therapist, or individual,
ultimately MISS the bigger picture. Developing psychic or shamanic powers
has the associated risk of the individual (so-called) becoming highly
identified with his or her role as shaman, and using it to cover over all
the places of vulnerability where their own actual liberation is to be
found.

Ultimately, there's no difference between liberating yourself or liberating
others. But someone locked into a shaman trip is unlikely to understand the
immense and liberating truth in this statement
