funny, I just sent out the following note yesterday to the DrugWar list (I
forget about the ibogaine list sometimes- my bad) -
Hi all,
Here is yet another example of prohibitionists using the shoddiest of
science to bolster their scaremongering anti-drug stories and practices.
This note below about MDMA comes to us from Rick Doblin, executive
director of MAPS ( http://www.maps.org) , who also sent me a presentation
explaining the "MDMA causes holes in brains" fraud from the US
prohibitionistic government, which some pundits and luminaries, such as
Oprah Winfrey, helped perpetuate.
Anyway, thought I'd pass this along for food for thought and in case
anyone wants to do a little research about the alleged Parkinson's link to
MDMA. It is an interesting story, in that MDMA has been found to actually
counteract some of the physical disabilities wrought by Parkinson's itself.
Damn prohibitionists. This reminds me of the discovery that THC seems to
attack some types of cancer cells, discovered way back in the mid-70s then
covered up by the US government until some researchers in Spain (I think I
remember correctly) recently discovered the same thing, a couple years back
now.
Some drug or other is found to be beneficial in some specific way, so
the prohibitionists find some way of presenting the "evidence" in such a way
as to report the exact opposite conclusion to that found by the actual
research. The Bush admin has also done it for the WTC air safety reports,
global warming reports, ummm, Iraq reports, drugs = terror reports- gee,
this could turn into a really long list.
Peace,
Preston
from Rick Doblin at MAPS.org >The story is getting
better all the time. In a week or two, the journal Science will issue aletter from George Ricaurte retracting his paper claiming that MDMA causesdopaminergic neurotoxicity in primates and that people are at risk of getting
Parkinson's.
Turns out he mistakenly administered methamphetamine to his primates, not
MDMA. When he tried to replicate his findings with oral MDMA, as opposed towhat he thought was injected MDMA (but was really meth), he couldn't find any
dopaminergic neurotoxicity. So not only are his findings bogus but he hasshown that MDMA doesn't damage dopamine neurons. Furthermore, he should haveknown this all along since he ignored human data showing no dopamine problems inhis rush to demonize MDMA.<-----------------------

This, you won't believe!!!!
Wow,
I tried this and found it was true and I blocked my info..at least on
google.... I do not like the idea of a map to my house being available to
any one with out my knowledge!!!!!!!!
FYI - Google Telephone SearchGoogle has implemented a new feature wherein you can type someone's
telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and then you will be
given a map to their house. Before forwarding this, I tested it by typing my
telephone number in google.com. My phone number came up, and when I clicked
on the MapQuest link, it actually mapped out where I live. Quite scary.
Please look up your own number. Read below for details. Think about it--if a
child, single person, ANYONE gives out his/her phone number, someone can
actually now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming. This is not a hoax; Mapquest
will put a star on your house on your street. In order to test whether your
phone number is mapped, go to: www.google.com
Type your phone number in the search bar with dashes (i.e. 555-555-1212)(dashes ¬ spaces very important) and hit enter. This will divulge yourname and address. You will see a link option to the right for
Mapquest(click on it), which will use the address to provide a map to your
home or place of business. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your
private information, simply click on the telephone icon next to your phone
number. If you are unlisted in the phone book, you might not be in there,
but it is a good idea just to check. Please forward on to friends and
family.Peace,

Subject:CIA counterattacks White House--Pincus says Bush was warned on Iraq
Spy Agencies Warned of Iraq Resistance
By Walter Pincus
Washington Post
Tuesday 09 September 2003
U.S. intelligence agencies warned Bush administration policymakers before
the war in Iraq that there would be significant armed opposition to a
U.S.-led occupation, according to administration and congressional sources
familiar with the reports.
Although general in nature, the sources said, the intelligence agencies'
concerns about the degree of resistance U.S. forces would encounter have
proved broadly accurate in the months since the ouster of Iraqi President
Saddam Hussein and his inner circle.
Among the threats outlined in the intelligence agencies' reporting was that
"Iraqis probably would resort to obstruction, resistance and armed
opposition if they perceived attempts to keep them dependent on the U.S.
and the West," one senior congressional aide said. The general tenor of the
reports, according to a senior administration official familiar with the
intelligence, was that the postwar period would be more "problematic" than
the war to overthrow Hussein.
As U.S. military casualties mount and resistance forces wage a campaign of
targeted bombings in Iraq, some administration officials have begun to
fault the CIA and other intelligence agencies for being overly optimistic
and failing to anticipate such widespread and sustained opposition to a
U.S. occupation. But several administration and congressional sources
interviewed for this article said the opposite occurred. They said senior
policymakers at the White House, Pentagon and elsewhere received classified
analyses before the war warning about the dangers of the postwar period.
"Intelligence reports told them at some length about possibilities for
unpleasantness," said a senior administration official, who like others
spoke on condition of anonymity. "The reports were written, but we don't
know if they were read."
In the run-up to the U.S.-led invasion, senior Pentagon officials were
privately optimistic about postwar Iraq, and their assessment shaped
calculations about the size of the occupation force that would be required
and how long it would have to be there, as well as the overall cost of the
U.S. management of Iraq after the fall of the Hussein government.
The more pessimistic view generally remained submerged, but the controversy
did occasionally break into the open, most notably when then-Army Chief of
Staff Gen. Eric K. Shinseki told Congress in February that several hundred
thousand occupation troops would be needed. Deputy Defense Secretary Paul
D. Wolfowitz rejected his estimate at the time as "wildly off the mark."
Although the Pentagon has said it has no plans to increase the number of
U.S. forces in Iraq -- now nearly 130,000 -- the Bush administration has
launched a new diplomatic campaign to win foreign pledges of more troops to
help stabilize the country.
Before the war, the CIA passed on intelligence that some members of
Hussein's Republican Guard military units and his Baathist Party had plans
to carry on resistance after the war, according to one senior intelligence
official. "They had been given instructions should the regime fall," the
official said. U.S. military and civilian leaders in Iraq have said they
believe the daily attacks against U.S. forces are being carried out by
Hussein loyalists.
CIA analysts last summer also expressed concerns that the "chaos after war
would turn [Iraq] into a laboratory for terrorists," according to another
former intelligence analyst. President Bush picked up on this theme in his
nationally televised speech Sunday night, saying Iraq is attracting
international terrorists and is now the "central front" in the war on
terrorism.
There is not universal agreement about the clarity of the prewar
intelligence that was forwarded by the CIA and its counterpart agencies atthe Pentagon and State Department. Some administration officials said the
intelligence was murkier than others now depict it.
"The possibility there would be armed opposition was based on inductive
reasoning," one administration official said of reports from the Defense
Intelligence Agency. "The analysts were guessing." Another congressional
aide said the intelligence reports he had seen "were not very specific and
had a range of outcomes and caveats depending on how the war would go."
However, the prevailing view within intelligence agencies, including the
DIA, was that there would be resistance. Officials said this explained the
thinking behind Shinseki's congressional testimony earlier this year. A DIA
memo last fall said postwar Iraq would be "highly complex and driven by
political and religious factions," according to one former Pentagonanalyst. "They [Defense Intelligence Agency analysts] said it would be hard
to keep the lid on and to keep the various areas of the country from
falling apart."
Former Army secretary Thomas E. White said that during discussions he had
in the Pentagon before the war, he was told "the situation once the war was
over would be contentious." Although White said he did not see intelligence
on postwar Iraq first hand, it was discussed in meetings with Shinseki, who
said there were reports that "you could expect a major influx of Islamic
fighters."
It was for those reasons, White said in a telephone interview, that
Shinseki saw the need "to size the postwar force bigger than the wartime
force."
Speaking of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz, White said,
"Their view of the intelligence was much different. Their notion of it was
resistance would run away as the few remaining Saddam loyalists were hunted
down."
White said on NBC's "Today" show Thursday that the postwar planning
assumptions approved by senior Pentagon civilians were based on U.S. troops
being "greeted in the streets by a euphoric public, glad of being rid of
Saddam Hussein, and consequently we could very rapidly draw down the force
structure."
White, who resigned his Army post in April, has published a new book
sharply critical of the administration's Iraq policy.
Pentagon spokesmen did not immediately reply to telephone questions about
the prewar intelligence.
A White House official said the administration is not surprised by the
level of resistance U.S. forces are encountering. "It does not come as a
surprise that some of the bitter fanatics continue to fight against a
foregone conclusion and that foreign terrorists would seek to hold back
progress made in Iraq over the last five months," the official said.
Several senior policymakers, however, have said recently that they were not
totally prepared for what has occurred. On Sunday, for example, national
security adviser Condoleezza Rice was asked on CNN's "Late Edition" if
there could have been better planning for the postwar period. She
responded, "Obviously, there were things that were not foreseen. They have
now -- [and] are now being addressed."
Before the war, intelligence analysts also questioned whether the
administration would be able to achieve its goal of rapidly introducing
democracy in Iraq, according to administration and congressional officials.
Intelligence agencies reported that "any chance of achieving democracy was
predicated on long-term active U.S. and Western military, political and
economic involvement with the country," one administration official said.
On Feb. 26, the day Bush said in a speech that bringing democracy to Iraq
would help democratize other Arab countries, the State Department's Bureau
of Intelligence and Research completed a classified analysis that dismissed
the idea.
The State Department analysis reportedly stated that "liberal democracy
would be difficult to achieve" in Iraq and that "electoral democracy, were
it to emerge, could well be subject to exploitation by anti-American
elements."****!!!IBOGAINE TREATMENT NOW $1500 IN HOLLAND--CALL SARA, 0113134-624-1770 !!!****

UDV Church likely to prevail in dispute over hallucinogenic tea

**********************************************************
DENVER - A New Mexico church was handed a small victory yesterday when a
federal appeals court ruled its use of hallucinogenic tea was likely to
be protected under religious-freedom laws.
The 2-1 ruling by a three-judge panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of
Appeals in Denver, upheld a preliminary injunction against the U.S.
attorney general, the Drug Enforcement Administration and other
government agencies that sought to prohibit the tea's use.
The panel majority agreed with the U.S. District Court in New Mexicothat the Brazil-based O Centro Espirita Beneficiente Uniao do Vegetal
church had "demonstrated a substantial likelihood of success" of winning
an exemption for sacramental use of the tea, which contains a drug
barred by the Controlled Substances Act.
Jeffrey Bronfman, president of the church, sued the Justice Department
alleging, among other claims, violations of the First Amendment and the
federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Bronfman sued after 30
gallons of hoasca tea were seized by U.S. Customs agents from his office
in Santa Fe, N.M. No one was arrested in the 1999 raid.
Hoasca tea, used in some religious ceremonies, is brewed from plants
found only in the Amazon River Basin.
The church originated in Brazil and its U.S. operations are based in
Santa Fe. About 130 people, many of them Brazilian citizens, are membersof the U.S. branch, according to court documents.----

Show me where in their mission statement it says "we want to
legalize crack"
The DPA is for ending the "war on drugs" not legalizing crack. I
am really sick and tired of all the entheogen people and potheads
who adopt a holier then thou attitude how what they are doing is
ok and the poor sick "hard drug" users should be saved from
themselves.
The stereotypes of junkies as toothless unwashed losers are
promoted by most of the cannabis reform movement, medical
marijuana anything else you want to call it.
I don't see any of you doing anything except dividing into
factions and it is all the pot calling the kettle black.
End the war on drugs.
News for the potheads, junkies are no "sicker" then any of the
rest of you, or any of the "normal" people for that matter. How
about the right to human dignity for all humans instead of this
stereotyping.
More news is that while I don't have anything at all good to say
about Bush, the war on drugs got no better under Clinton. It's a
two party system. The libertarians, marijuana party, green party,
any party you want to call it, are not going to be winning any
presidential elections.-------------

After treating 28 drug addicted patients with iboga over the last 12 months,
I have realized that virtually all my patients had very radical childhood
traumas relating to the absense of the male parent. Of the 28, all of them
were missing the biological father for all or much of their childhood. This
put them on a road to alienation, bad decision making, early hard drug use,
and over the years, their health and relationships have been unsteady and
unsatisfying. Many have come close to overdose death.
Pot users are not immersed in this lifestyle and are not of this experience.

This is a straw-man argument. It means you can think of a lifestyle more
dehumanizing than the one you have, but it hardly qualifies as a proof of a

Re: [ibogaine] Junkies are sicker than normal
Marc,
Your patient group is rather biased in favor of "childhood traumas relating
to the absense of the male parent." I mean in a statistical way. I might
suggest that in your screening process you intake some patients who had quite
stable family backgrounds. It would be interesting to see if there are
distinctions in ibogaine outcomes between the two groups.

I think it is a matter of perspective, yes indeed Marc, but I don't think
that makes it a strawman argument in the slightest, as am I not in the least
bit implying that all use equals abuse, of any substance legal or illegal at
all.
As I hope is obvious.
I am disagreeing with you that all heroin/opiate use is dehumanizing, or
equals "sickness" for sure.
I'm not at all in disagreement with you (I presume) that ibogaine should
be a legal option for those who wish not to use opiates and want to
stop/kick painlessly, in a way that apparently offers a lot more than simple
detox too for that matter.

Subject:[ibogaine] those damn junkies
<rant>
a vast majority of the problems associated with addiction are thanks to
prohibition. (ok, understating the obvious) Add to that the history of covert
ops of flooding america's poor urban and rural communities with massive amounts
of narcotics in order to keep the "undesirables" (in the ruling elites eyes)
under control. Would be community leaders and voices of the people supressed by
the constant, uncontrolable urge for the next fix. This has been repeated
throughout history across the globe.
Unfortunatley (or fortunately, depending on if you're THE MAN) addiction knows
no boundaries. It doesn't matter if your father abandoned you at a young age or
not or if you sustained an injury where heavy narcotics become more than
prescribed by the doctor. The spirit of opium is a strong and seductive force
to reckon with, regardless of childhood trauma or the lack of. I've encountered
many addicts who came from wonderful families who just liked to get high and
got caught up in it.
But drugs are an integral part of a multi billion dollar indistry of the rehab
and prison system here in amerika. which results a very few people getting
actual help in treatment (bacause the odds are like less than 10-1 that you"fail") while many other addicts go on to repeated incarceration and forced
labor.
Its not the drugs (that are the problem), its the prohibition laws and
society's views of the "lowly evil" addict that are the problem.
decriminilization and de-stigmatization are a very large part of the solution.

very good allison i had a semi normal childhood well anywasy my dad was there and i became an opiate user i dont like the word JUNKIE. i think it has alot to do with what you hold inside i have found that one stereotype thats true alot of the time NOT ALL but opiate users are usually very emotional people very vivid and wild imaginations thats just what i think. cuz i go to methadone clinic and i see the people that are there nthey are nice people not the murderers and robbers and con artist that everyone assimilates w/junkies but once they stop and let htere true self out they go through a change and become open and the ones that resort back to there old way of hiding there emotions and being cynical then of course life sucks and you might as well shoot dope cuz theres one thing that i leatrned from N.A. that helped and the saying is "you are only as sick as your secrets" and it is so true and the thing about allison and her friends thats so true but anyways i hope youi get to meet some more people of a wider part of the using population! cuz right now you couldnt pay me to know a person like you is dosing people you sound very close minded in a brooud sence but then again what do i know! your local tortus Turtle

I went to a private school which cost lots and had a good education, my partner went to a state boys school and did an apprenticeship in painting etc. We both worked and still work but its a struggle between hanging onto our house, mortgage, and paying bills cos we have spent so so much money on using opiates. We even grew our own poppies for a few years but that was even worse cos we just built up bigger tolerances cos we didn't have the money issues to slow us down. Got to the stage where we wanted to go to a party or bbq but had to go round the garden to get fixed first & then by the time we sorted it and got off nodding out we'd start doing the garden round all over again. Needless to say we didn't get very far. I think its more to do with your circle of friends or the places you put yourself. Its like a conditioning that if everyone you know does it, that makes it normal, at least in your own environment. druggies too apparently)
