Hello everyone! I am new to the group and trying to learn as much as possible
about high functioning autism. We are the parents of a recently diagnosed 3
year old high functioning autistic son. I feel as though I have been cramming
for final exams lately. I have visited too many websites to mention, read so
many books I think I need new glasses, and talked to everyone and anyone that
seemed to have any remote knowledge of the subject. We are learning that
because our son's behaviors aren't drastically severe and because he has the
intellect of a 7 year old that some people don't think he has a problem. Or
rather they think he has a problem and it is nothing that discipline won't
solve. I am eager to hear what everyone is experiencing and what works and
doesn't work and what to look out for. We are also new to the IEP world but are
pleased with our very first one - it is too soon to judge results just yet, I
think. I live in Germany so our resources are somewhat limited here so this
group is another great link to like-situated parents.
