HI! My name is Sarah and my husband, Jeremy, is currently serving in
the US Navy stationed in Washington state. Our 6 yr old son Nicholas
was diagnosed in June with Asperger's Syndrome. We are still trying to
muddle our way through what to do next, since nobody seems to want to
help us. We have a fabulous counselor at the base, but she seems at a
lose as to where to go from here with what services are available and
what is going to help Nicholas reach his potential. He has a
psychiatrist who hasn't dealt with AS enough to really understand it,
but she's the closest psych to us--Children's Hospital in Seattle is 2
hours away and it's a 6-9 month waiting list. He also has an anxiety
disorder, epilepsy, and asthma. Our primary care just transferred--
barely a month after the diagnosis, so now we have to bring yet another
new dr. up to date on Nicholas' unique quirks and abilities. We would
really like to know how to go about getting whatever services he's
going to need when we don't have a clue what's out there.
