Ah my friends. That I should be the bearer of sad sad news. But all
of you who know Shelley will feel this now. Please send your thoughts and
caring as suggested.

Subject: [fjftalk] Update on Shelley Davis
fjftalk . . . the listserve of the farmworker legal advocacy
community . . . .
Dear Farmworker Law Advocates,
In case you have not visited the CaringBridge website for our
colleague, friend and Deputy Director at Farmworker Justice, Shelley Davis, www.caringbridge.org/visit/shelleydavis,
below is the posting from Friday by Shelley’s family. It is extremely
saddening news. Robin and I have been spending time with Shelley, her
husband Tom Smith, her son Nick, and others in her family at the hospital and I
have tried to convey to all her family members who are surrounding her
everything that we know about Shelley through her amazing work and all of the
wishes and other messages that many of you have asked me to express.
Shelley’s family is very grateful for the messages posted on CaringBridge from
her colleagues and friends all over the country and around the world. For
those who would like to send cards, Shelley and Tom’s home address is 2406
Churchill Rd., Silver Spring, MD 20902.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Friends and Family,
It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to tell you that
Shelley is failing. The cancer has spread in her brain, and is affecting her
breathing. She has been weakening for the last couple of days, and we had great
hope that she would recover her strength and keep fighting. The effects of the
cancer were too great, however, and treatment has been discontinued. Shelley is
resting comfortably right now, surrounded by Tom, Nick, and other family
members.
I will write to you again when the situation changes. In the
meantime, please continue your prayers for Shelley, that she may be comfortable
and out of pain. Your support has been of great comfort to Tom and Nick and
everyone in the family, and there are no words to thank you enough.
