Public Health Professional
The mission of the Association of Farmworker Opportunity Programs (AFOP) is to
improve the quality of life for migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their
families by providing advocacy for member organizations that serve them. Our
vision is that farmworker families will live and work in a healthy, safe
environment; earn a living wage; be treated equally under labor standards laws;
have increased access to education and social opportunities; and be recognized,
valued and respected.

AFOP seeks a Public Health Professional to join our staff. This new position
will work with AFOP staff to expand our Pesticide Safety Program, developing and
implementing a train-the-trainer pesticide safety program for AFOP member
organizations and other groups serving the farmworker community. The Public
Health Professional will provide technical assistance, on-and off-site program
evaluation, training, and other program consulting to AFOP member organizations,
focusing on pesticide safety training, but possibly including other health
outreach areas as well. The ideal candidate will be experienced in health care,
project management and program development and evaluation. The Public Health
Professional will also develop publications, present at conferences and work
closely with AFOP staff on other projects, helping expand AFOP's commitment to
farmworker health and safety.
Additional Qualifications:
Candidates must have a minimum of two years experience in project management,
program evaluation, health promotion or community health education. MPH or
related Master's degree preferred (or BS/BA in similar fields plus at least 3
years related professional experience). Must have excellent writing skills.
Candidate must have the ability to interact with colleagues in a team setting,
develop relationships with diverse groups of people and have excellent
interpersonal and communication skills. A commitment to community development,
service to underserved populations and an interest in health education desired.
Marketing experience and a demonstrated ability to speak publicly in small and
large groups a plus. Bilingual (Spanish/English) desirable. Monthly travel in
the U.S.
