hi, I was told that I needed to see a psychiatrists in 1984 and they took me
off all meds. I was at a well known Hospital in New Orleans. That was when
I had my first Grand Mal. I called my now late husband to pick me up.It
scared him to death having another one in the car. We live in MS and he drove me
straight to the hospital. My local neuro chewed me out & put me back on meds.
I was having about 50 partial complexes a month until surgerys and I still
have them I also had a stroke during the last main surgery. sorry this is so
long.
Donna

I have daily migraines, unfortunately. The seizures maybe once a week. They
are not really too painful, mostly migraine aura with flashy lights and
blindness.

Within 3 days I usually have a
seizure. lately it lasts longer and their is more movement. Lately only a shot
helps the pain.

Well, ladies and gents, it has been a long week for me. Monday I had the
beginnings of an upper respiratory infection. Tuesday, I got bad enough that I
called in a prescription and called off from work and called my driver as I
don't drive. Just about the time it got really bad, I came down with the flu. I
am suppose to go back to work tomorrow......I don't think so.....I am praying
this is not like last March where I was home the whole month. Boy, it's bad
enough to already have illness on a regular basis. Then you get punched in the
gut with this. Pray for me, please. I would really appreciate. God's blessings.

Most docotors are morons who just want to sit back and collect an easy check for
doing the basics. Seizures are almost impossible to get on a schedualed EEG. I
feel for your frustration. Screw your doctors. I was recently diagnosed with
complex partials and narcolepsy at the mayo clinic. I went through something
like 14 neurologists before I finally got an accurate diagnosis. 14 idiots who
didn't want to be bothered with me.
   Screw them. Keep searching.

I had to make a decision today. My hair dresser is several blocks away
downtown. I don't have a problem getting there. It is coming home that is the
big problem. It is all up hill. I didn't realize how serious is was until I
had my EEG test a week and a half ago. Everytime I had to climb Main Street
after my hair was cut, which is every week, I would hyperventilate no matter how
slow I walked. By the time I would get home, I would get nauseated. My
hairdresser got it worked out where I could go down on Saturdays when she
worked. When she does not work on Saturdays, my husband will shave the back of
my hair to help eliminate the pressure that builds up in the cervical area of my
spine. Phew! What a relief! Peace to you all!

Martha, what are you aura symptoms like and what are your simple partial
symptoms like?
When I have a migraine aura, I feel dizzy, have blurred vision or sparkly
lights in my eyes, one sided numbness and weakness and nausea. When I have a
simple partial, I think I am having a dream, and I feel tired and dizzy, and
sometimes it's like events are repeating themselves in a kind of feed back loop
for 15 seconds or more. Sometimes I get really confused and I don't know where
I am and don't recognized anything. It can be very difficult to figure out
which is which, because I don't get really painful migraines.
   Thanks for your input.

Tomorrow I have my second appointment with my new neurologist concerning my EEG.
I had my EEG last Tuesday. I am hoping he doesn't send me to John's Hopkins. I
would rather keep working at my job. The Topomax that I am on seems to
controling my seizure pretty well. Altough I can't remember the names of all my
group family, you are all in my thoughts daily. Martha

hi everyone
well the past days have not been the best, well really thursday. while at my
sisters i had a grandmal seizure. this was this first time i have had a seizure
in 2 months - and 2 months with out seizures is very good!!!
luckily i was with my sister. this is why -

originally i was going to stay at my house. my husband had left very early
that morning and would not be home till very late that night. when i woke up i
was feeling good. then around 10:00 am i had a small complex seizure. was not
bad - but did surprise me. during the day my sister called and asked if i would
come spend the night with she and her kids. They live about 30 min. or so away
from me. At first i said no, but because i was going to be by myself all day
and pretty much all night i decided to. so my dad picked me up. my parents
live next door to my sister. so really i have no family members close by me at
all.
My father came to get me. Once we arrived home, he and my mom left to go out
of town. My sister was there. So i just started playing outside with my niece
who is 5 and nephew who is 2 - this was about 6:00 pm. My sister went inside
the house. So i was doing great, felt fine had no problems at all and playing
with the kids. Then I just stopped - this strange feeling went through me and i
new a seizure was coming on. So the most important thing first was to get my
sister not only for my help, but more for her children (being so young & they
live along a bayou). I tried telling my niece to get her mom but my words would
not come out correctly. So i went to the door and luckily my sister was right
at the door talking on the phone. I hit the glass window and she came running
out. Then the feeling of fright came over me. This I have not had in a very
long time. My sister had never seen me go through the strange of fright before,
so she had no idea what was going
on. She tried to touch me and I pushed her away. The feeling left and I sat
down and went into the seizure. This part last for about 4 minutes. During the
time I am alert of what is happening around me. Then I stopped and took a very
deep breath. Now when I do this I know a very bad seizure will now start -
usually a grandmal. It did. I was in a chair - went down to the floor. I have
left temple lobe ep. so I was hearing things, seeing bright colorful lights,
drooling, etc. I blanked out for a minutes. Then came aware of things and the
numb, painful feeling ran up my right leg. My r. leg began shaking hard and
hitting the wooden floor, so that did not help the pain I was already having
during the seizure.
My sister was about to call EMS/Ambulance when the seizure stopped.
Thankfully - cause I would have not let them take me or even like that fact if
they would have. I was still very disoriented and unable to talk and walk. So
I crawled back into the house and made my way to a bed. After about 20 min. I
was able to use my right side and speak correctly.
My little niece and nephew were being so sweet & loving. They call me nanny
(na-na for short) and both stayed in the bed with me till i was ok. "toooo
cute."
My sister and I were both talking about what a blessing it was that I came to
visit her. Cause if not I would have been by myself till very late that night
and there is always those "what ifs?" that go along with that question. My
sister is a nurse.
She also got in touch with my husband to let him know what was going on and
that everything was fine.

Just now I'm feeling the after "effects". This will usually last for about 4
to 5 days.

Hopefully in the next day or so I will be better.

Do hope that everyone else has been having a good weekend.

Thanks for just letting vent. Just feels nice to have people who understand.

   Y'all take care
   Ashley

Well, Rich and I got home last night around 8. We started back from New York
around 10am and dropped off our son, Thomas at the Amtrak around 7:15. We then
went to the market to get some things to get us through to the weekend. The
wedding was beautiful. My nephew's brother is an up and coming Lutheran
minister who married his brother, the primary reason why we went to New York.
The worst of yet to come. Rich and I were just outside of the door of the tent
where they were serving the dinner and saw A LOT of flashing lights, VERY LOUD
DJ. I stuck it out for about three hours. I had to eat. When we found out the
bride and groom were not going to cut the cake until later, we finally decided
to leave as I had lost feeling in my left side and I was having MVP pain, a
headache and was worried about having an aftermath of seizures. The little
cottage we stayed in was very quaint, the breakfast was very nice and I saw a
cousin I hadn't seen in 30 years. I was suppose to
go to work today, but I am exhausted, so I stayed home. It was really nice to
see my family again. Lots of hugs and kisses goin' on. Peace to all.

Well, Martha here. I am going out of town for the weekend traveling to New York
to be present at my nephew's wedding. It is a five+ hour drive down. We are
picking up my son from Amtrak before we take the trip down. I have been spending
my day off packing my husband's and my clothes hoping the clothes are warm
enough for the temp in New York. I am worried about my husband. He's has had
three evening meetings this week. One is tonight. We have to leave tomorrow at
8am to pick up our son at the Amtrac station by 8:30am. I am hoping it proves to
be a pleasant trip. I hope all of my buddies are having a pleasant pain free
day. Peace to all.

Well, I put in a full day on Wednesday. Boy! was I pooped when I got home. I
was still really tired on Friday. I don't feel good today; Sunday. Tomorrow is
another work day. We shall see how I feel when I wake up tomorrow at 4 in the
mornin'. I enjoy my job, don't get me wrong. It's hard work. I work in a
library with classes. I check in books, repair books, shelves them, put new
covers on books, etc. I basically relieve my boss all of the duties that she
would normally do so she can concentrate on teaching. I get out of the house.
That is a positive thing. I have to get up early because I have to catch my ride
earlier than usual as my rider likes to get to school earlier than usual. I
hope all of my buddies are doing well today. Peace to all. Martha

Do hope that you are feeling better very soon. Just take it easy.

Things for me have been going pretty good. I had back surgery on the 18th.
Feeling better. Just every so often I get sharp pain in my lower back were the
surgery was performed. My neurosurgeon had told me to take it easy for the next
3 weeks. Well with me being VERY hard headed - I have a hard time doing that.
So that is why now I am paying for it with the pain.

Feel better soon. Have a good night.

Well, I have been fighting a headache for two days now because of Ernesto, no
insult intended. About 5pm, it turned into a full blown migraine. So, I paced
back and forth trying to decide whether or not to take Excedrin as it has
caffeine it. I decided a half hour later to take it as I had to take my evening
meds anyway and I knew the headache would just get worse if I didn't take it.
The good thing that will come out of this is the headache will go away and I
will have the motivation to get a shower tonight when I usually don't. Maybe I
will work on my bookmarks too as I go back to work on Wednesday at a local
elementary Media Center two days a week. I hope all is well with all my guy and
gal buddies. It's goin' to be a long night.Martha

Well, a new school year has approached us. I am to start working at my school
on Wednesday after Labor Day. My boss gave me Monday, Wednesday and Thursday to
choose from. My pschologist suggest I work two days a week so as to not wear
out too much and not cause too much pain. We shall see what happens. My boss
says she already has projects lined up for me. I won't have time to be idle. I
definitely will take my time to rest in between classes of which are back to
back with a 1/2 hour lunch break. Wish me luck. Always thinkin' of you guys and
gals. Martha

hello everyone
just a little note to say that all went very good. Came home Saturday
afternoon. Since then things have been good. I was having pain with my right
leg more then my back. My doctor said that should be expected. When I woke up
Thursday morning the bad pain stopped. So hopefully it will stay that way. I
will talk with my doctor again on Monday. Besides that I have been doing good.
Just "trying to stay off my feet" not very good with that. I am not the best at
just staying in bed all day long for many days. But I'm trying.

   Anyway -

Hope that everyone has been doing well.

Take care. And for those who responded, thank you so much. It really did
mean a lot.

I leave tomorrow to stay in the city were the surgery will be performed. So yes
I am having it. Today I was at the hospital having final testing done, meeting
doctors - just getting things ready for Friday.

I saw my neurologist last Wednesday and he turned my VNS off just to be on the
safe side. So after the surgery and once I am feeling better I will go back to
see him and have it turned back on. He also told me to lower the zonegran by
100 mg the night before and the next morning before the surgery (I take 200 mg.
morning & night). The zonegran may cause problems with the amount that I take
daily. So he just wants to be on the safe side. After the surgery I will take
the 100 mg. pill of zonegran that I need and just go back to taking it
regularly.

When I saw the anesthesiologist we did have a long talk about the problem I
have with how hard it is to find a blood vain. I have always had this problem.
I am very cold natured - so my hands stay cold the most and that does not help.
When I had the blood patch performed 2 weeks ago it took 12 times before they
found a vain. The next problem I have is I have TMJ from a car accident back in
the later 80's. With that and because a tobe will be put down my throat - I
will half to be awake for them to do so - yuk! This way he can watch the
pressure that it may cause and if it may be effecting me to bad.

Not sure of how long the surgery will be because I did not see my neurosurgeon
today. I am just ready to get this over with.

Well let me go. Everyone take care. I'll be back on when I can.

     Hello everyone -
Do not know if how many or if any of y'all remember about how I talk about my
right side giving me problems when having seizures. How I am able to feel pain
while the seizure is happening and the problems after. This has been happening
to me since the status seizure in 2003. It has been such a hard and painful
thing for me to deal with. I have been going to therapy, having botox shots in
my right leg (very painful), was diagnosed by another neuro. with dystonia and
drop foot. I wear a brace on my knee and foot due to this. At times the pain
gets so bad from the seizures or just when ever that I have trouble walking,
standing or sleeping.
I went to see my neurosurgeon a while back about my VNS. Then we started
talking about the pain I have. He felt that it may not be dystonia. So he had
an order called in for me to have a ct scan & a myelogram. I had this performed
last week. The myelogram made me very ill. The procedure can cause seizures
during or after. Now this was not told to me until I was having the needle put
into the spinal canal. Of course small seizures did happen after The
myelogram also caused stiffness, inflammation & very bad (migraine) headaches.
Then I became dizzy, nauseated and felt like I was going to pass out. So on
Wednesday of this week I went and had a spinal patch (think that is what they
called it) to help stop all this. It did - thankfully.
Now I did see my neurosurgeon on Monday of this week and found out that the
disk in my back is pinching up against a nerve - and this is what is causing
that pain I have. So yes - I am having back surgery on the 18 of this month.
Due to the fact of the pain I have on my right side of my leg and foot still
being a little numb since the left temple lobe surgery in 2003, he feels that I
must have hurt myself during the status seizure. Now when I started having
these seizures in 2003, they did start while I was standing up in the bathroom.
My husband herd a loud crash when I fell down. He was unable to open the door
at first. So we are thinking that something could have happened during that.
Specially in the position that I was in once he was able to get into the
bathroom to help me. We do know that I did hit the bath tub pretty hard when I
fell.
So hopefully this will answer a very BIG question that I have been dealing
with since 2003. I was becoming so scared with the pain I am now having. I am
only 34 and my self, husband & the rest of my family started to seeing my having
to be in a wheel chair or something else to help me walk in the near future
because of how bad the pain can get. So please keep you figures crossed that
this really does give answers that are greatly needed.
So sorry this is so long.

   Take care everyone.

   Ashley

Well, I still have a thumper. It is the repercussion of yesterdays migraine. It
will probably last most of the week. My twin and I were IM'ing and she asked me
if I wanted to go out with her and I had to decline. I didn't want to, mind
you. Also, this Friday is my D & C surgery at 6 in the morning. I was hoping my
husband could stay with me the whole day, but he has an afternoon meeting that I
didn't know about until yesterday. Oh well. I'm a grown woman. Peace to all.

It's 4:30am and I am awake with a whopper of a migraine.

Friday, Mary, my twin, asked me if I wanted to go yard saling. Of course. I
just did not feel good that day. So, I would give her my answer the next day.
Well, we went out for the morning. It was a successful morning. After that, my
husband and I did our few errands. We then took Lady out for her evening walk.
Me thinks I had to much sun. 'Cause now my head is just' a bangin' away.
Excedrin, take me away. I hope everyone else is doing better then I am this
Sunday mornin'. Peace to all. Martha

It's 3:45 on a Wednesday mornin. I am awake with a headache. Monday afernoon, I
got a call from the Surgeon's Surgical Center prepping me for my surgery on the
18th. She went so fast that her voice is still realing in my ears and in my
brain. It is driving my crazy. I'm scared. I think some of the fear is coming
from driving home yesterday from my psychiatrist and psychologist appt. watching
all these idiot drivers going around us hoping one of them doesn't slam into us.
I thank God Rich is an outstanding driver. To make matters worse, my ankles are
starting to hurt. I've gained seven pounds over the summer. I am feeling very
much alone and have been since that "call". The idea of the those needles going
into my hands just before the surgery gives me the shivers down my spine just
thinkin' about it. I need a hug real bad. Well, I am suppose to go out with my
twin this morning around 9. I hope she can make me feel better. She is always a
bundle of laughs. Here's to a
pain free day to all my support buddies. Peace too all. Martha
