I was answering to a post from another group and just thought that y'all might
like to know.

For those who have the VNS and do not know about this - In the past I have had
2 surgeries that have nothing to do with epilepsy. One was performed on my back
and last Friday I had another surgery. For both my neurologist had to turn my
VNS off before the surgery. The reason he does so is due to the anesthesia
used. The anesthesia, in very rare causes, can cause allergic reaction,
bleeding and infection. My doctor now turns it off just to be on the safe side.
I will have it turned back on Wednesday.

So if anyone who has the VNS, in the future if you will be having surgery be
sure to talk with your neuro. first.

Here is a link that has a small article titles "What Are The Risk" that talks
about it:
   http://www.medicinenet.com/vagus_nerve_stimulation_vns/article.htm

   Take care
   Ashley

Subject: not a good weekend - and again!

Well after just having one, well about two, good days of finally getting over a
strong seizure I had over the weekend - had another strong one last night.
Lasted about 8 min. I have no idea what is going on. I usually am not like
this with my seizures. All that I can think is that last week I saw my doctor
he lowered my vns. So with it being so low it is not controlling the seizures.
He only is in office on Wednesdays, so I called today just to see if there was a
way to get a early message to him. The nurse that I talked with did take my
message and will get in touch with his nurse.
It has really been crazy the past year, well since the hurricane with talking
with my doctor on days when he is not in his office. My doctor is located in
New Orleans. He just moved to "another" location, but was told this will be
there permanent stay. He also lost some of his assistant doctors when he moved
to this area. So that is another reason why it is hard. Hopefully now that
they have a permanent location, new neurosurgeon, and other accident doctors
coming in things will improve.
There is some good about this location it's at - the Memorial Medical Center
of New Orleans, La. Now I know that you all do not know or remember hearing or
reading about how this hospital was greatly damaged and also during the
hurricane many problems happened there. Many people thought this place would
never be usable again. Goes to show that dreams, prayers, and a lot of
determination from supportive people can do. There are still areas of the
hospital that may not be usable soon. Still the hospital is doing very well and
improving everyday.

   Take care

     Hi everyone
I have not posted in a long time. So sorry. I have been trying to keep up
with other post.

My weekend started of good then turned around on me. I had a dinner party
Saturday night and things were going great. Then a strong aura started.
Luckily I was able to walk into my bed room before the seizure started. I have
simple partial seizures - so I stay alert about 90% alert of what is happening
around me. Like always it affects my right side and starts in my foot and moves
up my leg. My leg has a great amount of pain when this happens. Then fear came
over me. My husband came into the room and I would not let him get close to me
I was so scared, but not of him. He said it was like I was looking around at
other things that were scaring me. I was also crying. This lasted for about 3
min. or so. Then I just sat down and my right side started jerking. I also see
bright, colorful lights in the corner of my right eye. When I do I will follow
them because the lights will start moving. Then I feel back and my husband
could not get my attention. So he used a
diastat. Once the seizure was over I rested for a few minutes. (My husband
feels it lasted for about 10 min. or so.) Then I went back to the table with
everyone. They all new what had happened, but did not say anything. Once
everyone was gone I went to bed. Then woke up yesterday feeling like a truck
ran over me. I could hardly move my head was hurting so bad. I slept for the
rest of the day. Today I still am very tired, confused and not very alert.
I saw my doctor last week. I told him the only time that I have been having
seizures is at time of ovulation and my monthly cycle. So during this time he
was me to increase my klonopin & lamictal. That I understand, just I am trying
to get pregnant so I am not to crazy about the idea of it.
I am also going to start going to speech therpay due to the trouble I am still
having.

Do hope that everyone has been doing good.

   Take care
   Ashley

Well, my husband and I, along with Lady Rose, went to my in-laws for new year's
eve dinner. I was okay until after the meal. Mother-in-law wanted to play cards.
I wanted to go home. Not too long after I had said that, I went into a seizure.
I wasn't feelin' well. Earlier that day, I woke up with a migraine. The day
before, my left side went out and I lost the ability to speak for a time. It has
happened before. So, I just had to wait for it to pass. It is just a lonely
feeling being around people who are pretty healthy and don't have to deal with
this stuff. I am home now feeling better, but now out of the woods yet. Happy
new year to all. Martha

Hello there. I woke up to a migraine at 3am. Got up, took two Excedrin and went
back to bed. Slept off and on until 6am. It was suppose to snow but it didn't.
Darnet. I have a lump on my right hand on my middle finger joint that I keep
bangin'. Boy does it hurt. It's gotta be a rheumatic joint. My daughter gave my
a plastic $25 certificate for Christmas from JC Penny that I am gonna use
tonight when my husband gets home from work. I hope I continue feeling the way I
feel right now.....pretty good....with the exception of a small headache. Enjoy
your day yahoo buddies. Martha

I made a big mistake yesterday at my twin's house. I was so busy getting ready
to go there and getting the dog out that I didn't get my breakfast when I should
have. So, my stomach was empty most of the morning. To begin with, when it was
time to shower, I did not feel good at all. So, I sipped on a Pepsi. That helped
me. So I got the shower. We are now at Mary's house. I finally get my breakfast
mid morning. Shored some Pepsi with my husband. Then I had some more Pepsi later
that day. Then, to top that off, lights from cameras and digital cameras, all
the Christmas (my twin's daughter was in town early) comotion, I got a migraine.
I had to take Excedrin for Migraines. So, I have not slept well and got up at
3:30 and now up for the day at 4am. Merry Christmas ya'll. Martha

I give up. I wanted so badly to work three days a week, but I guess my body says
no. I woke up with my alarm at the usual time; 3:45 so I can slowly wake up and
start between 4 and 4:!5. Walked to the bathroom. That is where I stood for a
good half hour or more trying to decide what to do. I still feel tired from
Monday's work day. Oh well. My twin invited me to go out with her later on in
the day. I think I will do that instead. I need to pick up some meds anyways.
There is still tomorrow's work day. I don't work on Tuesdays or Fridays. Hope
everyone is having a pain free positive day hump day. Martha

We are not only needing another view of DIABETES

We need a new perspective on what the flu really is: a chemical

Too much exposure to 2-butoxyethanol <http://groups.msn.com/RenalLiver>

Well, except for the back pain from sitting in a folded chair at my in-laws
chairs, I made it through Thanksgiving and my silver anniversary without too
much repercussion. My son and daughter-in-law gave us a very nice pot and pan
set from Chicago for an anniversary gift. All the gifts we received, of course,
were in the silver nature. Today, I hope to see my neice from Baltimore. I am
going to have to rest up the next two days so I can go to work on Monday. I hope
you all had a great Thanksgiving and have a great Saturday. Peace to all. Martha

It is 2:30 in the morning and I am up with a migraine and a neurological attack.
I had a cup of "Tension Tamer" and took two Excedrin. I hope that will do the
trick or I will spend Thanksgiving and my silver anniversary very ill. What
happened: Well, Rich and I were suppose to take the turkey to his parent's house
to have it cooked. We did not know the whole family was there in from Delaware.
I was not physically prepared for this. This was more stimulation than my body
could stand for one evening. So, now I am up with THIS! I need prayer that this
goes away and I can have a good Thanksgiving and even better anniversary as it
is my silver anniversary. HAPPY THANKSGIVING ONE AND ALL. Martha

Saturday I was looking at the magnet for the vns. I noticed it had cracks on
the back of it and one going all around. This is the one that I keep with me.
At first I thought that I had caused the damage. The more I thought about it I
could not think of a time of were I may have dropped it or it hit something hard
enough to cause the damage. When I looked at the second magnet, it too had the
same damage (same area's) just not as much or bad. My husband started looking
at it. ( -Now this is so hard to explain, you would just half to see him. He's
a mechanical engineer and when he gets into things like this - he gets this
serious look on his face. Too funny - lol.) He really feels that it is due to
the force/pressure of the magnet. When it is being used it causes the cover of
the magnet to crack. He pointed out 2 of the cracks that were expanding
outward. He explained that it showed that the force of pressure is causing it
to move this way. If it would had just
been a crack from it hitting something it would had cracked in different angles
and so on & so on (a lot of times when he gets this way, I just act like I am
listening and just shake my head every once in a while, cause I start to get
lost).
Sunday we went to my parents. He took the magnet and began talking with my
dad who is a civil engineer (put those 2 together and it can be dangerous even
worse boring, lol). They must of talked on this subject for about 2 hours. My
father feels the same.
So I was just wondering if anyone else has ever noticed this before with there
vns (if you have the vns)? I had the vns surgery back in April of 2004. I take
very good care of both magnets.

I will be seeing my doctor in January and will let him know. Really I feel
that I am just being curious more then anything about this.

   Take care
   Ashley

Oh..on the back of the magnet they have 7 circles. This is were the crack on
mine start. That is another reason why my husband & father say it is may cause
the force/pressure. Wish I could remember all of how they explain this.

Good morning all. How is everyone this morning?

Well, I paced the floor, got dressed, paced the floor, brushed my teeth and
paced some more and finally decided that I was not ready to go back to work. I
have not been back to work for three weeks getting over the flu and bronchitis.
I got farther this time.....Atleast I got dressed.

My husband and I have my every six weeks meeting with my pschologist tomorrow.

The anniversary of my dad's death comes up on my 25th anniversary. He's been
dead 14 years and it still hurts. My family and I walked in on his death on our
way to celebrating our 11th anniversary. We were going to drop off our kids for
dad and mother to watch them that evenin'. We drove up to four ambulances that
evenin' in front of their home of which is my home now.

The good part is the whole Harris family will be in for Thanksgiving for the
first time in years. That 'twill be nice. I take the family picture. Peace to
all. Martha

How are all my guy and gal buddies doin' tonight?

It's raining cats and dogs here in the western Maryland mountains. Happy
Veteran's to y'all. I was hurtin' so bad from this weather that I decided to ly
down and take a late afternoon nap and woke up in time to take my night time
meds. I'll be up long enough to eat dinner, watch a little tv and go back to
bed.

I found some meds to help cut this chest congestion, thank goodness. This
coughin' is giving me a constant headache and neckache.

Well, I hope y'all are doin' okay this evening and get a good night sleep.
Nite all. Martha

Does anyone know of any negative side effect related to seizures, that can be
caused by the fertility medication clomiphene?
My obgyn had me taken this Oct. 20 - 24. My neuro. thinks this is what caused
me to have the cluster of grandmal seizures last thursday. I did try looking on
the internet - so for have not come across anything.

   thanks.

You dear heart. I remember those days oh so well. I am so sorry you are
separated from your husband. You need that support system when you are going
through those seizures. I am so relieved he was there for you when you needed
him. Praise God! Prayers are coming to you from the western Maryland mountains
as I type. If anything I typed to you offended you in anyway, I apologize.
Peace to you. Martha

Good afternoon all. How is everyone? It is still rainin' here in Western
Maryland. I am still tryin' to kick this flu and bronchitis bit. I think I am
goin' to have my husband take me to the clinic over the weekend since
Thanksgiving is coming and my 25th anniversary is coming over the Thanksgiving
holiday. I can't go back to work until I get rid of this cough and this phlym in
my chest. I hope you'all are doin' better than I am. I think of all of you'all
daily and wondering what you'all are doin'. Peace to all. Martha

Good mornin'. How is everyone this morning? I'm almost out of the woods. I
still have a cough and still bringing up that crappy phylum. My boss emailed me
and asked if I would go back in on Thursday. I am hoping my cough clears up
somewhat by then. I've been taking a pill to loosen up the phylum. My husband
told me this mornin' that he heard my chest being quite congested during the
night. I guess I will have to take that pill durin' the night too. I didn't
want to wake him up. That is why I was not taking it at night. It is suppose to
rain later on today.

We are going out to vote after my husband gets off work. I am not looking
forward to it at all. Voting scares me. It always has. Now it's even worse as it
is a computerized screen that bothers my eyes.

I got my exercise this morning as always walking my dog. That felt good. I
walk her twice a day. I won't go out at dark either morning or night.

   Peace to all. Martha

Good morning to all! It is 24 degrees here in western Maryland. I wore two
coats, two scarves, ear warmers, etc. The only part of my body that was cold was
my face. I had to take Lady Rose out for her morning walk. I am feeling almost
human. It will be nice to get out again. I've been indoors for a week and a
half.

I think of you'all often every day hoping that you'all are doing okay today
and dealing with your pain the best way you can.

   Martha

hi, I was told that I needed to see a psychiatrists in 1984 and they took me
off all meds. I was at a well known Hospital in New Orleans. That was when
I had my first Grand Mal. I called my now late husband to pick me up.It
scared him to death having another one in the car. We live in MS and he drove me
straight to the hospital. My local neuro chewed me out & put me back on meds.
I was having about 50 partial complexes a month until surgerys and I still
have them I also had a stroke during the last main surgery. sorry this is so
long.

I have daily migraines, unfortunately. The seizures maybe once a week. They
are not really too painful, mostly migraine aura with flashy lights and
blindness.

dcgleesa1@... wrote: Hi Do you get headaches before seizures too?
Within 3 days I usually have a
seizure. lately it lasts longer and their is more movement. Lately only a shot
helps the pain.
