When I was in Mexico I received this and just read it last night. I was
wondering if anyone else new about it. If so has it been shown/watched it yet?
If not does anyone know when it maybe?
Take care,

Season Two of the PBS Series Second Opinion Premieres in October The
national health series Second Opinion, hosted by Dr. Peter Salgo, returns for a
second season on PBS this month with episodes on depression, prostate cancer and
epilepsy. The award-winning series engages nationally recognized healthcare
professionals—experts in various areas of medicine from around the
country—and patients in a fast-paced, provocative discussion of real-life
medical cases. Currently seen on PBS stations across the country, the series is
produced by WXXI Public Broadcasting, West 175 Productions and the University of
Rochester Medical Center (URMC). Season two of Second Opinion launches
nationally this month. With a mission to raise the level of understanding of
healthcare issues, Second Opinion takes viewers behind-the-scenes to discover
first hand how doctors navigate their way through medical decisions. "What
comes out in our show is the kind of information you won't find in the
mainstream media," says Dr. Peter Salgo, the Emmy Award-winning host of Second
Opinion. A practicing physician who maintains a full-time practice in Intensive
Care Medicine in the Open Heart ICU at New York Presbyterian Hospital in New
York City, Dr. Salgo maintains there is a disparity between what Americans hear
on the news regarding medical breakthroughs and what is reality in clinical
practice.
"The majority of Americans get their health information from short stories
they hear on the news or read in the newspaper," Dr. Salgo says. "We provide a
deeper understanding of modern medicine and show viewers there are times when
even the best doctors can't fully agree on a course of treatment. That's why it
is so critical for patients to know how to talk with their doctors and what
questions to ask about their diagnosis and treatment plan."
Additional topics to be featured on season two of Second Opinion include
vision correction surgery, stroke, eating disorders in middle-age women, joint
replacement, metabolic syndrome, women's cardiac health, back pain, colon
cancer, skin cancer and asthma. Celebrity guests this season include
sportscaster Lesley Visser, former Congressman Tony Coelho, author Constance
Rhodes, and the First Lady of New Jersey Mary Jo Codey.
In addition to the broadcast, Second Opinion presents "medical literacy" in a
format that engages and entertains viewers online through a comprehensive
companion Web site at http://www.pbs.org/secondopinion. Second Opinion is
endorsed by both the American Hospital Association and the Association of
Academic Health Centers. Dr. Roger Oskvig, an acknowledged leader in Gerontology
and Associate Professor of Medicine at URMC, is the series' principal medical
advisor.
National underwriting for Second Opinion is provided by The Blue Cross and
Blue Shield Association, representing the 40 independent, locally owned and
operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies that collectively provide
healthcare coverage for more than 93 million—nearly one-in-three—Americans.
Scott P. Serota, BCBSA's president and CEO says Second Opinion provides its
audience with understandable, useable healthcare information, which fits well
with Blue Cross and Blue Shield System's vision for a better, knowledge-based
healthcare system. "Blue Plans believe that our healthcare system is
strengthened by making knowledge work for better and more affordable care in
communities nationwide. The Second Opinion series demonstrates that when
patients, doctors, and the entire healthcare community work together in greater
collaboration, the outcome is better, more consistent quality of care," he says.
"By creating a greater awareness of these issues, the Second Opinion series can
help consumers consider the tools they need to make more informed healthcare
and lifestyle decisions for themselves and their families."
