Hi Mary,

I don't know if I introduced myself when I joined the
group awhile back. In Febuary 1999 I was hospitalize
with menigital encephilitis. I had my first seizure in
the ct machine on Feb 1. The doctors had a very hard
time getting the seizures under control. I spent most
of my time in a coma. My wife was told on at least two
occations that I wouldn't make it through the night.
The entire time the seizures continued. On March 11,
1999 I woke up. My wife and sister were there. Before
I could ask anything the doctor walked in and ask me
what day it was. I got the year wrong. Then I found
out what happened.
I've had migraines all my life. Usually 3 to 4 a
year. Now about 11 to 13 per month. The only signs of
seizures I have are complex-partial. Though I am still
on seizure meds. The doctors are now doing nothing for
my migrains. The nuerologist wants to put me in the
epilepsy observation unit and take away the meds to
see if I'm still having seizures. He's not concerned
about the migrains or the memory and concentration
problems caused by the brain damage. Seizures are the
least of my problems. I lost my job of 14 yrs. I have
a wife and 6 kids to support and can't work. Social
Security is draging their feet. The lawyer I have is
little help. If I could solve the migrain problem I
could work again. Preventing the seizures would be
great! We are now on medicaid so the list of doctors I
can see is now down to one. My original nuerologist
has left the area. Any one have a idea where I can
find a new one?
The seizures are somewhat undercontrol. The memory
and concentration can be dealt with to an extent. The
migraines take away my ability to live my life with my
family, work and support them. I can't take anything
in the triptan family of drugs. I'll talk to my doctor
about the topamax (dout he listen at all).
