It was great to get your response! What is your
field of study at UTMB? Where is that in Texas? I have
been doing some Independent Study about midwifery and
midwifery skills for about a year now, although it doesn't
feel that long. I have 4 beautiful children so at
present my studies have been strictly academic, except
for practical experience through my own pregnancies.
My interest is in organizing a study effort which
will prepare myself, and others who are interested,
for practical apprenticing. I want to be an asset to
my preceptor, not a burden. To go into
apprenticeship with out an academic foundation would be
irresponsible. I want to have a clear understanding of the
anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, birth and
postpartum. I also want to understand the full range of
normal in pregnancy, history taking, and exams and
tests.
I know that I could do all that by myself,
but it would be more enjoyable as an interaction, and
we could help each other learn and grow. Midwifery
is such a specialized course of study that it can
cause you to feel isolated and demoralized. And with
the internet capabilities, that doesn't have to
happen.

Anyway, I've been working recently on Prenatal topics,
and I just finished researching Abdominal palpation.
I posted the info I gathered on the Midwifery Today
Study Forum, and I felt much more focused during my
research and organization knowing that I was sharing the
information with other studying midwives. It is more
motivating and gives the feeling of
accomplishment.:)

If you'd like we can work on organizing something at
this site, I'm not real familiar with the set up of
this site yet, but it doesn't take much if we're
motivated to make it work! Have you been involved in a
Study group on this site before? If so, how did it
go?

Look forward to hearing from you soon,
The Lord
bless you,
Zoie
