It is a labor of love and for most people it is unecessary. People
who build these are following Beck usually. He is an interesting guy
but his device stood in the way of progress for most people, since
they simply could not build one, and often the suppliers went out of
business selling them due to slack demand or legal issues.
The colds and occasional infections most people are up against do not
require a device like this. They can be addressed with much simpler
godzilla devices on microelectricitygermkiller. Those you build in 5
minutes without any parts other than battery, wire, rubber bands and
sponges.
Beck's original design was used against AIDS and it needed to have
features that allowed long-term use in hospitals etc against systemic
infections. The device he used can be purchased from SOTA
intstruments or you can build it. They will charge you around 200
bucks altogether. But building this is going to take your time, so
figure all that in, and it will not be as reliable. Why not? The
connections can come loose and you will not know which connection.
Also, unless you have built devices like this before, there is a
learning curve to it.
It is a great little device to own, and I have several. I do not use
them since the simpler ones are just easier to use and foolproof for
the 15 minutes I need them.
