Hello all, been awhile for me to write but I need to pipe in here to
give some of you parents with babies and toddlers some hope.
Some of you may remember my Zachary, some of you don't.
Zachary was born 4 weeks preemie, weighed 5 pounds and 13 ounces,
measured 18 inches long and his head was only 13 inches around.
They told me they didn't recognized the micro because he was so
small, he was officially dxed when he was 12 months old. At that
time we were told he would walk some day (maybe around 8 or 9 years
old), would never run, talk, read, write, or be potty trained. They
said he would remain a 3 year old mentally his entire life. Barring
any tragic incidents he had a 50/50 chance of living past age 5.
His micro is caused by an undiagnosed syndrome. He also had several
major health issues which kept us in the hospital most of his first
4 years of life. Things seemed bleak, but then mom got tired of it
all and took out his feeding tube and since then he has not had one
overnight hospital stay.
Here's the hope part: At 18 months of age he stood independently
for the first time and took his first unaided step. By age 2 1/2 he
was able to walk across a room without falling. At age 3 1/2 he was
doing what they called an official run. At age 4 1/2 he became
potty trained and started talking. Now at age 8 he just finished up
normal 2nd grade is reading and writing on a 1st grade level and is
highly advanced in math.
He is God's little miracle, no doctors can explain why he is doing
all he is doing and appears to be still going forward with skills.
He now weighs 50 pounds, stands about 49 inches tall and his head is
only 18 1/2 inches around. Despite his numerous difficulty with his
health and dealing with mild CP, he also suffered a near drowning
accident back in 2001 and should have never survived that (according
to the doctors).
So as you can see doctors don't always know what they are talking
about and the power of pray does work as far as I am concerned,
Zachary is proof of that. If you would like to read a little about
him he was featured on the Hugs and Hope website in September 2001,
you can go to www.hugsandhope.com .
Sorry for the length talk to you all later.
Deborah
