Re: [Microcephaly Support Group] New here

Hi. My child is 3y9m, and he can stand holding onto
something, and can walk with a walker, but can't walk
on his own. He had a hard time eating non-baby type
food for the longest time, but then we got a speech
therapist who INSISTED that we take him off baby-type
food and give him food with texture or he will get
used to the mushy food and getting him to take
textures would be more and more difficult. We did
this when Blake was about 12-18 months old.
We first tried things like beef stews w/gravy and
rice. We chopped the beef real small, and of course
the rice is small. With the gravy, some soft carrots
and potatos, and the rice, it's all small enough for
him to swallow like baby food, but it provided an
introduction to textures. Have you tried that yet??
Nowadays he still doesn't chew all too well BUT...he
eats all kinds of food...we just have to cut it up
small enough for him to move around in his mouth, and
then swallow. Last weekend we spent the night at my
brother's farm to celebrate his 50th birthday with the
rest of my family & all the cousins. We did not have
access to all the conveniences & foods like back at
home. So I cut up a hamburger for Blakie, & since the
knife I used was so pathetic, I couldn't get it too
small...so Blakie actually HAD to chew and he actually
DID chew. He was absolutely starving by the time I
could feed him, so I found it completely amusing that
he didn't spit it right out b/c it was too big like he
would have done at home. ;)

p.s. I think I've mentioned before, but Christine, I
am half Filipina. :)
