I am the grandmother and legal guardian of Matthew. Just looking for
new groups to join. Matthew was diagnosed with Microcephaly one day
after birth, which led to an MRI showing he had several brain
malformations; Lissencephaly, Polymicrogyria, Pachygyria, and
Schizencephaly. He is legally blind but does have some kind of
vision to his peripheral right. We know because he looks at us and
watches TV. He has recently learned to nod his head yes when we ask
him a question.
Even with the grim prognosis at birth he's doing far better than
anyone ever expected. He doesn't have feeding tube or aspiration
problems. He knows people and can almost roll over. He has almost
perfect head control. He has no endochrine problems. He can't crawl,
walk or talk but is doing very well considering. He laughs and knows
how to "jump" if we hold him up. He can walk in a walk although he
bumps into everything. He knows how to "fall down" when we sing ring
around the rosies to him. Though it's been very slow, he is making
great progress. He's only had 2 bouts of pneumonia. I could go on
and on.
I just wanted to brag and let the new members know that all hope is
not gone just because a doctor said there is no hope. Matthew has a
