Thanks so much for the information about coffee being a trigger food. I don't drink much coffee and when I do, I have to drink decaf. The caffeine keeps me awake all night even if I just have 1/2 a cup of real coffee.
The information about the beans was good to know. It makes more sense to have more beans for protein. When you measure out 85 grams of canned kidney beans, you get a small portion. I will adjust my chili recipe and repost it to the Files.
I will also have to adjust my tofu recipe to include full fat tofu (NOT Lite tofu). I was hungry and craving food about 2 hours after I ate the Gazpacho made with Lite Tofu.
I will finally go to my MB Training about the Science of the Diet next Tuesday. I guess I will learn why we are eating the way we are, and how the body metabolizes food. I'm looking forward to it. The center is having a "dinner and a movie" night. It's at 6:00 pm on a weeknight, so they told us we could bring our dinner and attend the meeting (and watch a movie). That way, we can all check out what others are eating and maybe exchange some new recipes.

Well I am Ursula and I am new to this, just got my results back
yesterday and will start on Sunday with my plan. I am actually not here
to loose weight, I just would love to get my eating habits under control
as I sometimes feel like I can gain 2 kilos within a period of 24 hours.
I eat really healthy all the time and feel like if I indulge somtimes in
something I can see the weight just going onto my body. I had some
problems in the past with my eating and therefore would love to raise my
metabolism so that I can easily have one cheating day without gaining
weight.

Anyway, I am happy to read from everyone as I think it is a good support
thing and the receipe idea is great. If we can all share recipes with
each other then the whole thing will make much more fun and brings more
variety into the eating plan.

First many thanks to you Kathie for these great recipes.
Here are some useful information's from me, if you don't know already:
- Coffee can trigger hunger feelings - as it does with me :-(
- Yoghurt from cow milk and cheese from cow milk are the same protein
type. So when you have the yoghurt in the morning please do not have
cheese at the same day.
- Weight for beans is for dry beans, when you use tin beans you can
double the weight

If your husband starts now and sticks to the plan he could lose most of those pounds before going to Aruba. I'm finding that a lot of people are tracking my progress and 33 pounds lost in 3 weeks is difficult to argue with. I think it's easier for men because we seem to be able to lose weight more quickly.
You sound like you are doing well on the Plan. I find that I now enjoy eating like this. My body seems to be just shrinking. I am just on the Plan for 6 weeks, and I've lost half of what I needed to lose (I was 15 - 20 lbs. overweight). I've lost 11 pounds in 6 weeks. 4-9 more pounds to go.
I am on phase 3, so I am allowed a "cheat" meal once a week now. That makes it so much more interesting. I've tried food that I've never tried, and found out that I like it. I'm eating more protein, more fruit, and maybe a little less veggies than I did before. Certainly less desserts! I was a Choc-a-holic and I couldn't pass up anything with chocolate in it before! On my cheat meal, I do indulge in a little dessert.
I went out with a bunch of ladies last night to a function. They had all kinds of food! Cheese, crackers, grapes, chocolate candies, cookies, pretzels - lots of munchies! I had water. I'm proud of myself. I did bring home a few of the wrapped chocolates to save for one of my cheat days!
From talking to some other members at my MB center, you do get to eat a little differently when you go on to Phase 4, which is your lifetime eating plan.
It's funny, but my husband was not going to do MB. He needs to lose about 30 lbs., but he is also on heart & cholesterol medicines. Now, from watching me, he is getting interested and may join MB when we get back from vacation after April. He doesn't want to go to Aruba just starting out on a new eating plan. I just hope that he can eat some of the same foods that I eat. It's tough cooking special food for myself, but it will be tougher cooking 2 separate special meals!

Hi all,
had an early weigh in this week as I won't get a chance on Saturday -
going to watch Arsenal play football. I've been on the diet for nearly
3 weeks and I've lost 15 kilo's so far. Even the cynics are starting to
see the benefits now. The best thing is I'm not even hungry between
meals anymore. The hardest thing is drinking 4 litres of water per day -
gets expensive too.
I'm also starting to feel more energetic now and it's easier without
carrying this weight around. When I get to my ideal weight (in 10 weeks
at this rate) I will have lost the equivalent to my wifes weight! Which
is kind of scary as I've only got 1 heart. I watched a scary programme
tonight that pointed to the fact that over 35% of people living in the
Uk will suffer from heart disease before the age of 50 - most through
being overweight. What an incentive to pass on the dessert trolley!
My best friends wife is from Malaysia and said she will send me some
good recipes for vegetarian thai and malaysian meals. She only uses
natural ingredients and spices so should suit most tastes and MB diets.

I actually found a few other tofu recipes that sounded okay. Haven't
tried them yet, but it shows that you can find some. They are in the
same recipe file.
I used to eat soy products, like Boca Burgers and Boca Chicken
patties, and also a dried soy cereal product called Nutlettes. The
soy is good for bringing down cholesterol. If anyone is interested, I
can give you the site that has all types of products made with soy.

That's great progress. I have been on the diet a whole month now and I've lost 10 lbs. I have another 5 - 10 lbs. to go. All of my clothes are starting to be way too big. I love it.
Best of all, I like eating this way. I'm now on phase 3, so I can have a cheat meal once a week. I'm sticking mostly to the MB Plan, though, as I did get really full when I ate at a restaurant, and then I had some acid reflux. Haven't had that since I started eating correctly.
One of the dinners on my plan is 85 g. of Tofu. I used to eat tofu blended with melted chocolate to make a great chocolate mousse! However, since being on the MB Plan, I haven't been able to make that. I checked out my tofu cookbooks and found a recipe for Gazpacho that I could adapt to my Plan. I tried it tonight, and it was pretty good. I'll put the recipe in the Files section. It does contain tomatoes though ........
Also, if anyone has a heavy duty blender (I have a Vitamix), if you have mango, cantelope, or papaya on your Plan, freeze the cut up chunks (or buy them frozen). Measure, and put the frozen chunks into the blender. Add a little water. Blend. You will have a great tasting sherbert for dessert. (You can also use the fruit fresh, and add ice cubes.)
I hope someone else can put some recipes in the Files section. We all need a little variety.

thanks for the recipe - couldn't stick to it rigidly as tomatoes are
off the menu for me, but used more veg ( and too much chilli to be
honest). I'm not sure I'll get my michelin star just yet but I really

Well, I made a batch of chili today, so I put the recipe in the Files section of the list. I made it different today, so I added my new notes at the bottom of the recipe. I usually cook up 3 or 4 meals at a time and put the rest away or freeze them for taking with me to work. (I'm retired, but I work part time one day a week or sometimes a little more for the TV Artist Donna Dewberry - One Stroke Painting)
Anyway, I hope some of you can use this recipe. It's pretty good.
I'm originally from Ireland but have lived in the Uk for 20 years ( apart from 6 months in Baltimore, Maryland). It's a small village in the west abot 80 miles from London, close to Bath. I'll forward some photos later. I do have beans on my plan, so vegetarian chilli is definitely an option. I'm doing a few stir fries at the moment and rediscovering fish. All recipes are welcome.
Welcome Rich. I am now 3 weeks into the program, and finding it very easy to stay on track - as long as I eat at home or bring my own meals with me when I go somewhere. I live very close to Orlando, Florida and my son, daughter in law and grandson were down to visit this week. Of course, we went to Disney. I brought my legal meals with me, and I did just fine. I find that I am losing weight quickly. My clothes are getting very loose and slacks that I couldn't zip up are now pretty comfy.
If you have any questions, ask the group. If you need some recipes, I am going to try and put some in the files section later. I was given a couple of them from my MB center and I made a good vegetarian chili (if you have beans on your plan).
Where do you live? This is a group that started in the UK and now has members in the US.

losing weight at a rate of about 1kg per day, which is great because I
need to lose approx 45kgs. My plan is not too difficult, apart from no
milk - which is my favorite drink (was...my favorite drink).

thanks very much for your reply. Yes, your quite right, it's all about taking ones mind off. I find it more difficult when being on my own, but on the whole I'm fine. I do drink a lot of water as well and it does depend what time of cycle I am in.

depending of the time in my cycleI end up being hungry after the meals and would like to take more vegetables (bigger amounts) I'm not really into salads since it tastes a bit to sour, even with the balsamic vinegar.
Anyone had similar experience?

My Iceberg Steak is eaten the same way
as thy do in the US
just by cutting a dense Iceberg lettuce in Half or quarters, put olive oil and
Balsamic with some pepper on the cut side and eating it with a steak knife- no
cooking, it is incredibly filling and has a completely different texture to
chopped lettuce. Sounds dull but with cttage cheese or potatoes and boiled eggs
makes a real meal.
I would use the lemon to give the meals a different flavor. Or maybe for a nice cup of hot tea.
I discovered today that frying slim slices of tofu in butter taste much better as chunks in oil.
And to the salad: I am not a great salad friend. But I get each week a veggie box from a local organic farm and they have regular salad. So I just fry the salad like spinach - the salad shrinks and tastes not bad.
The MB group that I'm going to in FL is a brand new franchise and they don't have any recipes yet. I'm hoping that you will share some with me if you've been on the MB plan for awhile. The two people who started the franchise did so after being on the MB Plan themselves for a couple of months. One joined for health and lower cholesterol and the other was an insulin dependent diabetic, who went off his insulin in a couple of months. Both have lost weight and feel great.

I live in Florida, USA and I just recently joined the Metabolic Balance
program. I had about 25 pounds to lose, but more important, I want to
lower my cholesterol. I was looking everywhere for a group to join of
others on the MB program. There is a forum in Germany, but the
translation to English is not very good. I'm glad I found you.
However, you don't seem to have any other people interested in the
group. I would think that others would want to share their experience
and get support. At least we could ask each other questions and maybe
find some recipes.
I am finding that I am very full and I am even looking for more dense
vegetables so that I don't have to eat such a big plate of salad greens
with my protein. I have even bought smaller apples today, as I have
just been too full. I never before ate Mangos and Papayas, but they are
on my fruit list, so I tried them and I like them.
It will be nice to have a diet buddy, even if you are a long, long way
from me. I hope you are still on the MB program and have lost the
weight you wanted to lose. Was it hard over the holidays? I started 2
days after Christmas, so I stayed away from parties on New Years eve.
Well, if you wouldn't mind, I will give the address of this group to
some of the people in my MB diet location and they might join the group,
too. We need to get this group going for support.

celery, tomatoes, beetroot, broccoli, gem hearts or use a section of iceberg as
a vegetable steak, not chopped up. They are all very dense and tip the
scales very quickly but don’t forget to take time over your meal and
enjoy, I completely recovered from reflux but eating small mouthfuls and masticating
food properly.

September, lost 10 kilos, BMI now 22 and stable; Type 2 diabetic, blood sugar
was so high with maximum pills, was about to go onto intravenous insulin,
blood sugar is now down to 6 and level easily controllable with no medication or arduous exercise; have
needed to put on a little muscle as Body fat came down to 15.25 (should be
about 20).
MB sure does work if you stick to the
individual programme; you are in control of and regulate what goes down the throat.
