Dear Nils:
Let me qualify my response a bit more:
In my current understanding of these conditions (aperiodic bipolar, cyclothymic,
type 1 paranoid schizophrenia [i.e. w/florid psychotic episodes]), stress and
the resulting sympathetic nervous system response involving a flood of
adrenaline and norepinephrine (and consequently the related excitatory
neurochemical dopamine in the brain) play a central role in the pattern of the
illness.
My experience with this, which involves maybe a dozen occasions, has involved
energy healing, innate and Usui Reiki, although I'm confident success would also
be possible using the Quantum Touch technique ( see www.quantumtouch.com). A
"laying on of hands" on the two areas of the back corresponding to the location
of the adrenal glands and emitting healing energy into those areas was the
emergency treatment.
The effects have been quite profound in bringing someone back to a steady
state if they showing early signs of relapse or are in the "delusional and
stressing out" phase leading toward a full-blown psychotic episode. I have
never done it with an individual in full-blown forid psychosis or mania. My
impression is that I am heading off or circumventing the early stages of the
chain reaction caused by the vicious cycle between the adrenaline and dopamine
levels before some kind of critical mass is reached and florid psychosis begins.
I would love to see a study on this to see if results would be stable in large
numbers and with a variety of professional and lay practitioners.
If this were a regular daily treatment, perhaps it could help someone avoid
getting into problems, but I still believe learning cognitive-behavioral,
self-management and life coping skills
would be the best core treatment with the energy therapy as an adjunct.
At this point, I haven't worked with anyone long enough to sense whether a
course of treatment would have a more long-term effect of restoring a more
robustly stable neurochemical equilibrium or culling an excessive number of
dopamine receptors in the brain.
Nils, I hope this clarifies my earlier statements for you.
Very best wishes, Alfred
Shining heart to heart
Alfred
