Parity Day. Call your representatives to help pass H.R. 1424 "The Paul Wellstone
Mental Health and Addition Act" and to urge key committee leaders to review
the  legislation without delay.

NOW is the time to enact comprehensive mental health parity  legislation and
end health insurance discrimination.  It is long overdue!

You can lend your voice in support of this legislation! Paul  Wellstone
Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007.

The message is simple but vital. Urge your representative  to cosponsor and
support "The Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity  Act.” If your
representative is already a cosponsor of the bill, urge them to  contact their
colleagues to support the bill and to press for enactment this  year.

The Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of  2007 expands
the Mental Health Parity Act of 1996 by prohibiting group  health plans from
imposing treatment or financial limitations on mental health  benefits that are
different from those applied to medical/surgical  services.  The legislation
applies only to group health plans already  providing mental health benefits and
exempts plans sponsored by small businesses  of fewer than 50 employees.

Please call your representatives and urge them to pass this Bill.

I have been where you are right now and I remember it like it was 5  minutes
ago.  My mother, Lynda, thought that she was going to never see me  again when
I decided to go for Inpt. treatment at a nice treatment center  here in S.,
CA.  I was 18 yrs. old and we were living in the Washington, DC  area, so when
she watched me board the plane to fly out to S., CA from  Washington-Dulles
International Airport (IAD) weighing only 84 lbs. and 5'3 in  height she thought
the next time I will see my daughter is at her funeral.

I was absolutely terrified and I almost got back on a plane  that was bound
back to IAD when I had to change planes, but I didn't.

We did not get the chance to visit/tour this treatment center prior to
going, we did not have the Internet so we could look at it Online.  All we  had
was
the promise from the staff of this treatment center and a child sexual  abuse
organization telling us that I would be safe.  Because of my abusive  father
whom I haven't had contact with since age 21 when he beat me up for the  last
time my mother had to borrow money from her best friend for airline fare,  and
extra money for me.  My mother could not even take a leave of absence  to go
out with me or even visit me when we had visitation and family week.
Everything was done via teleconference.  That was back in the days when the 
health
insurance companies would cover treatment.  I was lucky!  Go  ahead and feel
free to ask her about this and/or anything you want.

With her schedule it is very difficult for her to get to her e-mails, but  if
you want to speak with her all you have to do is let me know and she will
contact you and you can work at the best date(s) and time(s) to speak via
telephone.  All you or anyone who really wants help and to be rid of this 
disease
that will KILL You if you do not beat it first  is pick up the telephone and
dial the Toll-Free # and we will do the best we can  to be there for you.  If
you happen to get the voice mail system people  have told us that the message
sounds like an eating disorder treatment  center.  Our response, "We only wish
it was. That is  our ultimate goal."

I hear this from different people (I won't tell you whom because I believe
in privacy and trust):

1) "I don't plan to die from this disease."

2) "This disease isn't going to kill me!"

3) "This isn't a disease."

4)"This is a "lifestyle."

5) "It's only a diet."

6) "I am doing no harm to my children."

7) "I don't look thin or sick enough to have to go for Inpt.  treatment."

8) "I am sure that there are people worse off than I am." and the list goes
on.

Now, by telling you these comments I am in no way putting anyone down or
making fun or light of their comments.

Recovery can be a reality for you and anyone!

If you or anyone you know is struggling with e/d (eating disorders) -- all
types, SI (Self-injury), alcohol and drugs, domestic violence, any form of
abuse, Bipolar, etc., please feel free to contact me.  If you wish  to speak

I am more than willing to visit anyone who is at a treatment center and/or
hospital in S., CA just so they know that they are NOT  alone and to have

every in every state, but money is always the  factor.

Eating disorders is a disease just like heart disease or any other  disease.
It is NOTHING to be ashamed of and  neither is the root problem(s)!
