Today, Sunday, April 23, 2006, "The Karen Carpenter Story" (movie)
will air on E-Drama (Encore Drama) and the 1st showing is at 4 a.m.,
PT and it Aires throughout the day. Please check your
cable/satilight guide for show times and channel(s). I have also
started my own ED Support Group which is called, Eating Disorders
Support for All and the title of the group means just what it is
called. I hope that people will join and spread the word so others
will join. I have the same Online Support Group by the same name at
AOL Groups so if you are also a member of AOL or know people who are
please let them know. With this Online support group there is a
nurse consultant (RN) for any medical questions, etc. Currently, I
am studying for my CEDS (Certified Eating Disorders Specialist) and
then on to my Ph.D. I am planning to Intern at a treatment center in
S., CA in the very near future. Remember, eating disorders (ED's)
can kill if untreated! However, the upside is that you can
become "cured!" You can beat this "mind Nazi" We know that ED's are
not solely about food. It is lack of control, low self-esteem, etc.
Since you cannot control life you can control what you eat or do not
eat. I know that ED's are often compounded by SI, substance abuse
problems, and/or struggles with intimacy, shame, and the fear of
stigma. Has anyone ever really taken a good long look at the word,
diet? If not, let me show you...DIE IT. There is always a root
cause/reason why someone has a ED's and studies have shown that
Genics may play a role in way certain people struggle with ED's.
There are all types of ED's, not just Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia
Nervosa.
I have read that a children as young as 3 years old are struggling
with Anorexia Nervosa. No one is immune.
By the way, I have been trying to find out how Max is doing. His
mother, Sara e-mailed me a couple of times, but I have not heard from
her in quite a while and I am concerned. If anyone knows Max or Sara
please ask Sara to let me know what's going on. I sincerely care
about everyone. I really do what it is like to struggle with an ED
and you can overcome it! No, I am NOT saying it is easy, but with
the love and support from your family, friends (Online and Offline),
etc., you can do it! I have helped people find treatment centers
males, females (all ages) and I do not believe in locked-units or the
intuitional look. In my personal opinion it is not therapeutic. The
problem with the majority of these treatment centers is the cost and
that they do not have scholarships. I am in the process of working
with a company that one treatment center just hired to try and get
scholarships. Please help me with this. It is b.s., that treatment
centers costs $30,000 and up and that they refuse to accept health
insurance, or if they do the health insurance company will only cover
half (if you are lucky), and do not have scholarships. There is no
excuse why the large treatment centers, i.e., Sierra Tucson, Remuda
Ranch (I know this is for females only), etc., do not have
scholarships. You can't put a price on a person's life! However,
these treatment centers seem to and get away with it, and it needs to
end. I would like to draft up a petition and people sign it, so we
can bring some attention to this serious issue. If you have any
ideas and are interested in helping me to make waves please let me
know. If you are an attorney or know of any attorneys that would be
interested in taking on a treatment center or two to make them set an
example of the seriousness of this issue, please let me know.
I am in the process of starting an Offline in-person ED's Support
Group in the San Francisco Bay area and if you are interested or know
of people who might be please let them know. It will be sponsored by
ANAD. It will be open to the public, membership will be free, and
everyone will be welcome. I am looking to schedule the first meeting
to be in June and have them on a monthly basis.
