Thanks for the response. It actually is a "friend" and not me that I
inquired about. Although he pigs out occasionally and has a very
healthy appetite...I think we have to be careful about lumping
everyone into the same degree of any disorder. He deliberately eats
low fat foods in quantity not to gain weight, excersizes etc. and
dislikes the idea of getting fat...which he is not...so I think he
already has a degree of control. He does not really suffer guilt
after binging, though he doesn't like the sick feeling overeating
brings. All in all the guy could be a model for a healthy lifestyle
aside from a once a week binge. Anyway...I appreciate your efforts
and the fact that there is a place for people with this disorder to
come. I feel I have violated my friends' trust by posting this
message and so I am leaving the group. I'm sure you will have your
own take on my question, but what I'd like to add is that I believe
that what sets a person with an uncontrolled disorder apart from a
person who likes to pig out now and then (which may be a degree of a
disorder) is his degree of success in recognizing and controlling it.
Some people just like to eat, plain and simple...and if they control
their weight and prevent poor health to compensate...they are A-
okay...disorder or not. Thanks and be well! ; )
