MP Kathy...just glad to help... i am 50 and have been dealing with this issue for almost 15 yrs so far... i feel for u...
btw...in MY shopping...i found that "rejuvinate" that everyone is soo hot on...is just black cohosh repacked n the price jacked up...black cohosh IS the source for plant estrogen... I DON'T DEAL WITH ANY DOCTOR THAT doesn't honor the old ways... natural chemicals {herbals} are designed to be digested with the enzymes in the body... all my docs are naturopaths.
NOW humans don't have all the enzymes needed...face it we are omnivores not herbivores... so by buying slightly processed plant proteins...they are broken down just enough so that we can use them...u can get the same effects by making teas with the full herb tho..cause heating breaks down the protein...n makes it easy for us to use.
my grandkids range in age from 30 (foster daughters step daughter) to age 3 They are the JOYS of my life and i love their chatter n the newness they bring to everything... but after practically raising 2 of them...i needed a break... n then the LOVE OF MY LIFE arrived...n I am with him now.
i swear when my daughter had her first child...she kicked me into menopause... i have tried EVERYTHING on my own...but I finally talked to my doc...n he put me on HRT...it worked great...but with my family history i didn't want to stay on THAT for long...so we switched to strictly herbals...n yeah i still have some minor mood disturbances...n a hotflash maybe once every 3-4 months...it beats the heck outta 5-6/night...
the man i am with NOW had cancer last summer n between the radiation n the chemo he has an occasional HOT FLASH...so he has an understanding of just how miserable they can be... and his late wife had been thru surgical induced menopause so he is very understanding and patient... that helps..
well kathy...gtg our pet wolves need some attention

Hi All, This is my first post to this group, I am 51 and am going through menopause, my biggest problem is that I don't seem to be able to process "stuff" in my brain as I used to, For example, when the kids and grandkids come to visit, they all want to tell me something at the same time, and before, I think my brain must have processed all this, but now, its like all these different signals (wrong word, but I can't think of the right one) coming at me, and my mind just can't seem to take it in, or, If I can sit and do something on my own, in my own time, I am ok, but if I have to do something with someone else talking to me, I have a lot of trouble. The best way I can describe it, is like a brain fog, like a kind of confusion...Do you get what I mean, lol, Has anyone else had experience with this? best wishes from Kathy from Oz

try gingko biloba(sp) n i even tried treats...fresh fruits grapes or cheese if my grandkids took turns instead of 'swamping me'.
I am NOT into taking drugs [synthetic chemicals] for my symptoms i use herbals...taking black cohost daily n gingko.
And because of the decreased moisture in the vaginal cannal we are more susceptible to bladder or kidney infections and for that i take a cranberry capsule daily..n if i feel an infection coming on...i take ecchinacea 1 capsule twice a day for 5 days; then one a day for 5 days; and then one every other for 3 capsules....n do the same thing with the cranberry capsules.
it seems like a lot to me...but it does help... also cut back on the caffiene.
hope this helps

WHAT IS HOODIA YOU MAY BE ASKING YOURSELF
Hoodia, a natural appetite suppressant, is earning attention as a
potentially powerful weapon in the war against obesity and the
American focus on losing weight. Hoodia supplements were just
introduced to the U.S. market in early 2004.
Here are some key points about hoodia:
Raw Hoodia gordonii looks like a cactus, but it's actually a
succulent from the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. Bushmen from
the area have been using hoodia for centuries to help ward off hunger
during long trips in the desert.
Hoodia gordonii is entirely natural
Only the gordonii variation of hoodia has appetite suppressant
abilities.
Hoodia tricks the brain into thinking you've eaten, and makes you
feel full.
Key results of hoodia reported include a reduced interest in food,
delay in the time after eating before hunger sets in again, feeling
full more quickly, and a general feeling of well-being
Hoodia gordonii is not a stimulant, and has no known side effects.
This revolutionary appetite suppressant helps you lose weight by
curbing hunger and cravings! Natural mood enhancers make you feel
great while losing inches and pounds.

You are young like i was when i got my hysterectomy.
prescription hormone replacement has to many side effects like stroke, breast cancer, heart disease, uterin cancer. I would stay away from them if I were you............and i was you once. I tried many prescription HRT and had such bad side effects from them that I had to find an alternative.......which I did.
Here is what I take now.
Its called Rejuvenate For Women. Its phyto estrogens...estrogens from plants. Its wonderful! Here is the website for it.
Have probably have not started experiencing the menopause symptoms yet......that will start in a couple of months once you use up what estrogen you have in your system.........that is why i suggest you get on Rejuvenate for women as soon as you can.
I also use the Rejuvenate Progesterone Cream which helps the symptoms and helps to build bone mass back and or keep you from lossing bone mass.
Both of the above products must be taken every day with out fail or they will not do you any good.

hi ladies...I've been perimenopausal for 10 yrs now...was on HRT for 6 months n doing well ...but had to stop because it wasn't covered by my insurance ...and i was on a limited income..
recently met n fell in love with a wonderful man...but since i moved i no longer have insurance.. my homeopath recommended remifemin as a substitute for HRT...but i haven't tried it yet..perferring to tough it out on my own...in 04 i only had 5 periods..the last one was in Dec.. and it was the first time i ever had cramps with a cycle... then 2 weeks ago (my first cycle since Dec)...i could have swore I was in labor...only the cramps( on the 1 -10 pain scale they were 15s) were the worst pains i have ever had in my life...I just started to get rid of the rubber legged feeling and some strength back 2 days ago... then today..the cramps have started again...15 days after the last ones this time they haven't gotten as bad..yet... first thing tomorrow i am going to go pick up some remifemin...and see if that helps...if not then i will try the rejuvinate...
last summer my mate was diagnosed n treated for cancer ...and it will be 15 months before they will say he is in remission...so we rejoice in every day we get to be together...
after being celebate for over 7 yrs...(for us both) i feel awful having to refuse us both the enjoyment we get from one another...for any reason...
well thats enough from me...

I guess I'm getting there so far my hot flashes are only on my face and neck. and my periods have been off and on for the past year. and when I do have one sometimes it only last one day. I am having mood swings. I told my husband that I felt more irritable lately and he just laughs at me....not a bad laugh like I'm just telling him that but a laugh cause he likes to ruffle my feathers some and now he don't have to work so hard at.

Risks of Synthetic HRT
On July 17, 2002, the National Cancer Institute reported in the
Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) that women in a
large study who used estrogen replacement therapy after menopause
were at increased risk for ovarian cancer.
Carrying more risks than benefits, Synthetic Hormone Replacement
Therapy (HRT) is no longer considered "safe." Recently, the National
Institute of Health (NIH) abruptly ended a major clinical trial on
prescription HRT in healthy menopausal women almost five years early!
Reports indicate an increased risk of:
Stroke 41%
Heart attack 29%
Breast cancer 26%
Double the risk of blood clots
Just as alarming is the report from the American Medical Association
that prescription HRT is NOT effective protection against
osteoporosis and IS associated with increased risk of heart disease.
The aim of HRT is to put back into the body the hormones that are
either missing, or the body is not producing to maintain adequate
balance. Synthetic hormones are similar to natural hormones but not
bio-identical to the hormones produced in your body. These
differences cause synthetics to act differently and produce
substantially different effects.
Bio-identical HRT is now the optimal choice for many women. The
term "bio-identical" requires the hormone's structure to look and act
identical to the ones your body produces. Bio-identical hormones are
derived outside the body from wild yams or soy plants using a
conversion process in the laboratory. These natural alternatives
provide the balancing benefits without the risk-factors associated
with traditionally used pharmacological prescriptions.
Studies show that estrogen dominance and a lack of progesterone are
common problems. Adding progesterone can help normalize a woman's
optimum estrogen and progesterone balance.
Our Rejuvenate Natural Balancing Progesterone Crème is the healthy
and natural way to help balance a woman's body using bio-identical
hormones.
Rejuvenate Natural Balancing Progesterone Crème can help you restore
your hormonal balance. Our unique crème contains 2% USP progesterone
in a silky, hypoallergenic cream and uses a unique liposomal delivery
system. This delivery system allows the molecular structure of our
custom formulation to penetrate and be absorbed through the skin.
Because Rejuvenate Crème is applied topically, the ingredients bypass
the liver so you use less and deliver more.
Rejuvenate Crème is easy to use! 1/4 teaspoon replenishes and
delivers the ideal level of progesterone in a base of synergistic
herbs, essential fatty acids and other supportive nutrients. Simply
massage Rejuvenate Crème into the soft tissue areas of the body which
include the inner arms, neck, thighs, back of knees, stomach or
breasts. Alternate daily. A simple way to help deliver the balance!
Elite's Rejuvenate Crème works naturally with your body to help
minimize the challenges caused by hormonal imbalance including:
Osteoporosis
Hot flashes
Night sweats
Weight gain
Breast tenderness
Fluid retention
Irritability
Migraines

Im going to be 54 next week. I have gone through this with nothing more than my synthroid and lots of tofu and awareness of foods affecting the hot flashes (avoid sugars/eat plenty of veggies/fruits, etc). I would suggest to you all, that really, this is a natural process and can be easily managed with a dose of prozac (ha).....good eating, exercising and the new sense of acceptance and calmness I beleive this stage of life brings.
and as far as our memory..........or lack of it................thats difficut to accept!! be well to all

Since you are not taking HRT I hope you are excercising alot and taking calcium with D and Magnesium so you will not get osteoporosis. Have you had a bone scan lately?
I agree with you on the no muss no fuss. Its been great for me since my middle 30s and I am now 49. But I went into full blown Menopause at 40.....yikes! I tried all types of HRT for 2 years and all it caused me was pain and swelling and weight gain.....it was horrible. I have been taking herbal photoestrogens for 7 years now and I am doing great.....no weight gain..if fact I lost the weight i gained from the HRT.
What type of Thyroid meds do you take. I was taking Synthroid then found out it causes bone loss so i switched to Armour Thyroid ( a prescription) which is natural pig thyroid...nothing synthetic like synthroid.
Sorry to hear about your father. My mom and dad are still with us and we make sure we spend time with them every week.

Thanks Linda! I don't have ALL the symptoms that normally
come with a period just the back ache and headache and
some bloating but it's not bad so I'm thinking it's just a
"wannabe" period! I'll give it a few days and see if it
really happens it's still just spotting right now! By
the way I have truly enjoyed NOT having them any longer!!
You'll love it too!! Sheila

Hello Sheila,
I've only missed my periods since this past May, so
I'm praying it's over! Got the night sweats something
awful and had a 'feeling' the period in May was going
to be my last. I'm 55 and didn't realize that you go
from one 'problem' to the another! I feel like it just
never ends for us women!
But, to answer your question, I was told that my
grandmother and my aunt's friend both got A period
after 5 years of not getting any. You immediately
think something is wrong, but they were fine. So, I
doubt it is uncommon, but you probably should still
see your doctor, just to make sure all is okay.
That is about all I know on this subject, but just
thought I would share with you, since we're all in
this together, so to speak.
Good luck,
Linda

I have a question for you ladies, I hope you can help me!! I haven't had a period for over 2 years now! I sort of figured I was all done with this menopause stuff and glad to be so! BUT today I have started spotting..... just like I use to do just before a period was about to start! Is this normal? I thought I'd asked you girls before I made a doctor's appointment. I know if it's messy there they can't check it out. I'll have to wait and see if this turns into a full period but it just shocked me so I thought I'd ask to see if maybe this happens occasionaly. Thanks for any input you may be able to offer! Sheila
