Re: Sit ups...

You have to be very careful how you do those. I think
it's a great idea to buy one of those 'stomach
cruchers' (Avon sells them now). It's the type that
lays on the floor and you place your head on the head
rest, so it holds your head and neck correctly, so you
don't strain it. It sure makes it easy. When you look
at it and think about it, it just makes sense. I have
a dislocated right wrist that didn't heal correctly,
so I can't use some of the machines that are out now.
I cannot put the pressure on that hand/wrist. But, if
you do not have that problem, look at the Suzanne
Somers web site and her machine is a great thing. Just
look at her and she's 56 years old now! She has great
products and you can also buy her things on Home
Shopping. She's one smart cookie and knows what she's
talking about. She went to medical school to learn
about nutrition, so her Somersize does work! That's
her 'diet' plan...not really dieting, just learning
how to eat correctly...anything that spikes the
insulin (breads, pastas, carbs, sugars), make you gain
weight. Not fats, like they've thought for years. On
her plan, you can EAT! Like she says, she loves to eat
and does NOT want to go hungry...says she's a big of a
piggy when it comes to food....so this is really a
good plan....a new way to eat and it's all healthy as
well. She's also going to write a book about
menopause...she says she's the happiest menopausal
woman you'll ever meet. So, I'm looking forward to
that. She really knows her stuff. And, she's not
paying me to say all of this! lol She just makes
sense!

Good luck to you all, this is a very difficult time of
life and I thank God for the internet! I have found
out more from talking to other women than from any
doctor...drugs and surgery...that's always their
answers to everything. And, it's so good to hear
you're not alone, not the only one experiencing this
or that.

One more thing...I don't think there is any way to
know when you will get a period these days. You just
have to plan ahead, wear a pad when you go out, just
in case...I do, as I have no pre-symptoms like I did
when I was younger! They just 'appear' now. Then there
are the times when I feel like I have it, but I don't.

Men could NEVER live through all of this, could
they?!!!

Regards,
Linda

Dear Trish,

Thank you so much for replying to me... And I am so sorry it took me
so long to write...schools just begun a new term back here and I've
been very busy with my son's schooling affairs. Somehow life goes on
even during peri-menopause.

The good news right now is that my period hasn't come...one year you
say? Well I hope it's going to be that for me! I really can't wait
till it just goes away.

Changes 24 hours...I've been taking remifemin and evening primrose
and they seem to help.

Sit ups? No I haven't been doing those...my neck gives me too much
problem to be able to pull those off...

Thanks for the insights. I hope you are doing well`.

I've got three dr's one being a chiropractor that I

Id like to share my views on menopause, health and falling into the trap of gynecological scare tactics.

I have been health oriented since living in CA in the early 70's and have experienced the full sence of well being that eating wholistically, healthily, macrobiotically, colon cleansed; famous nutritionist diet, etc.........   and through it all, I have learned to trust my body, and the natural way of it.   If you take care of it, it will be good to you.   That said.  I am 53 this March, have gone through menopause I suppose (have lost my period now going on about 2 years)   after about l4 months of no period, restlessness, etc, I went to a woman gynecologist my friend recommended to me.  As I usually do, I researched about bleeding after not bleeding and saw what was considered the procedures to follow, and also read by some more naturalminded doctors that sometimes theres a blast of bleeding, before the final curtain falls on menses.

I met with this (more aggressive and offensive female doctor), who wanted me to have one less procedure than all the articles I read mentioned, and also when I asked why, she used some threatening message , that included or you could die in it.     I never went back to her...........and followed the ways I always have, the natural way............I also, didnt have a fibroid removed that was also with scare tactics told I should remove it, but when I read that most fibroids disssolve during menopause and I was in late 40s, i went with it.  It is gone .     This is only to say, that this all worked for me, and works for many .   I just hope some of you would consider trusting your own judgments over the scare tactics and the over confidence you may be giving these doctors that use surgery as the method of erradicating problems that might naturally resolve on their own.

Hello,

It might pay you to go to your doctor, since you seem
to have so many problems...the most disturbing being
the violent behavior. With two children, this is not
good. I am sure that a chat room is not enough for
you. You need to seek medical help for this before you
do something irreversible. And, you should know
whether or not you still have your ovaries. You should
find out, one way or the other.

There is one thing I can tell you about and that is an
item sold through Drugstore.com. It's called a Chillow
and slides into your pillowcase. It does help keep you
cooler. A good fan might help you there as well.

But, it sounds to me as though your hormones are doing
a real 'job' on you. So you really need to get this
seen to. I would also look into diet/nutrition. Look
online and that might be helpful as well.

I'm 54 and going through my own 'hell'. No PMS or
anything like that. Not even any 'pre signs' that a
period might be coming on, so I have to wear at least
a pad whenever I go out! I've had several 'marathon'
periods..like 6 weeks long and extremely heavy
bleeding...scary! But, from what I've learned, quite
common. So, the only comfort I can give you is at
least you're not getting periods anymore. I am SO
READY FOR THEM TO BE GONE FOREVER!!!

I wish you the best and hope that you find an answer
soon. But the doctor is the way for you to go, in my
opinion.

Regards,
Linda

Hello Jan,

Welcome to our group.

I also had a partial in my 30s and my ovaries quit working at 40..what a birthday present LOL.

I also was moody, yelling, could not sleep, had hot flashes and night sweats.

The way I knew Is that my ovaries were not working was I always cramped up once a  month then they just stopped cramping and I got mean :>(

I also have hypothyroid as you.....I take 90mg a day of amour thyroid.

When all this started I went in and had a blood test which showed I was in menopause.....the doc put me on HRT prescription.

I tried 3 different HRT over a 2 year period.....all made me gain weight, my body ached and my joints swelled up! It was aweful.

For 3 years now I have been taking natural HRT and its great. No more meaness, mood swings, hot flashes and night sweats are no more.....and it did not mess up my thyroid :>))

You can find what I take at

God Bless
Trish

Hi, read your post on menopause.  I went through similar symptoms. I still have uterus and ovaries but after 4 years out in menopause, I started waking up at 3 a.m. with sweats and a horrible feeling of doom and panic. I started having anxiety really bad with horrible mood swings. I tried every natural remedy known to man. I did use natural progesterone cream which did help somewhat. But still had horrible depression, anxiety, anger, mood swings.  My hormones were a mess. I tried a product called Indium energy. It is a trace mineral that you cannot get through diet.  It is sold on the internet, just type in Indium energy. After three days on this my energy and moods improved a lot.  It really does help.  Also I am on a product called "Thera-stress". This is combination of three herbs from Russian. Anyway they have a normalizing effect on hormones and cause you to be less tressed. Just half a dropper full once in the morning. No side effects.  So those two products helped me the most out of ALL the natural herbs, vitramins, etc. that I tried. Hope this helps.  You have a major hormone inbalance which will just get worse unless you act on it now. Believe me I know. I was out of work for 3 months until I figured all this out. It also helps to go on a natural vegetarian diet and eat as much raw food as possible. No junk, pop, coffee, etc.  take care and good luck.
Lorie

THE NEED FOR WATER

Water makes up more than 70 percent of the body's tissues and plays a
major role in nearly every body function from regulating temperature
and cushioning joints to bringing oxygen to the cells and removing
waste from the body. It is second only to oxygen as a primary
building block of human life. Every moment of every day, our bodies
use water to per- form one task after another that is necessary to
our lives.

Severe dehydration can affect blood pressure, circulation, digestion
and kidney function. But on a daily basis, not getting enough water
can cause fatique, dry skin, headaches and constipation. Hydration
should be the primary focus of health. Proper water utilization is
necessary for the accurate processing of 80 percent of the messages
communicated between the brain and the body. Even a slight imbalance
may cause confused electrical messages to misdirect the muscles of
the body. Hydration is also responsible for proper functioning of 90
percent of the muscles in the body.

Through sweat, breathing and other excretory functions, our body
loses about three liters of fluid a day. Yet most people do not
replace this lost water with water. Instead we drink soda, tea,
coffee, wine and processed juices. These fluids contain a high amount
of caffeine, sugars, artificial flavors and coloring as well as other
unhealthy artificial substances. These fluids act as diuretics
(pulling water from tissue, body organs, etc. then flushing water
from our systems) thereby creating an environment of greater fluid
loss. The result is that many people end up with chronic dehydration.

Becoming thirsty is nothing more than our body telling us to replace
this precious liquid. But how many of us actually drink water?

Everyone should drink 1 ounce of water per pound of body fat. This
will help with bowel elimination and help with weight loss.

Oh thank you very much!
It really really does help to talk to someone who understands because she's been through it...menopause is hardly a laughing matter...it brings tears to the eyes...but not on a laughing note...

Oh I get the hot flushes when my period doesn't come just like you!!! And it's really horrible especially since I live in a tropical climate!

My back aches are very bad....and the neck is just horrible, I have to wear a neck brace/ cerebral colar to hold it up...

I have been taking remifemin, and it seemed to have helped take away the hot flushes, but now it's just not working anymore...

I get those horrible headaches- migranes and there's nothing I can do besides lie down until it goes away...

My memory plays tricks on me...I used to think that was age related but it's really about being menopausal...

Ringing in my ears- that's like a constant tune...
Well I hope that your hot flushes go away completely and you have no more complications...

Thanks again for sharing with me....

Hi, Amy,

There is no set pattern for your period once in perimenopause.

The only way you know you are thru it is if you have no period at all for one year.....then you know you are thru it.....but.......I know a lady who did not have her period for a year then had it for a whole month.....then never got it again after that.

Have you thought of taking phytoestrogens for your hot flashes/night sweats and mood swings?

Here is what I take ...Changes 24 System......and It works......I have been taking it for years. I love it.

As far as the hard tummy....water retention??? Odd. Sure your not doing sit ups wrong :>)

If you hold your breath during a sit up and not let the air out of your stomach....you will not decrease the size of your stomach....you will just make it hard......I read that in a dena austin work out book.

I am 48 in surgical menopause and taking Changes 24 / Natural HRT and doing well :>)

Oh I also have 2 pertruding disks in my neck.....I use a bag of frozen peas to ease the pain/tingling felt when I turn it wrong.

Welcome to the group.

Trish

A hearty hello to all you ladies,

My name is Amy and it's my first time writing to the group. I just
turned 50 a few days ago and my symptoms of peri-menopause is just
getting worse! I mean you name the symptoms I've probably got it!
Hot flushes? - have them nightly! It's so bad it wakes me up!
Aches and pains? - got those too- took an x-ray and found that one of
the disc have collapsed and is applying pressure on the nerves so I
get this tinggling sensation in my arm when I hold my head back. But
I've got medication for both of these so it's not too bad.

Weight gain? Well this is an odd one because I'm not gaining weight
but I am getting a fat pouch of a tummy! It's rock hard too! Water
retention they say! sigh...

And then there's the irregular periods! Here's where my head spins
the most! First it started comming in very short cycles like flash
flood and spotting that lasts just about forever!
Then it stops and gets further and further apart! So maybe you sweet
ladies can help me out here...
My last cycle was 45 days....and that was in October 2003. I was due
( if there is  such a things as period is due for menopausal women!)
on Nov 1 but it never showed up.
What I am asking is, can anyone of you ladies tell me what is the
normal pattern of period cycle for a woman headed towards menopause?
I know it's suppose to get wider apart the cycle but is there a
general idea of how many weeks gradually increasing to how many more
weeks? I guess I just want to know if I'm getting nearer to the end
of this madness...

Thanks a bunch!

Hi Amy and welcome!

You and I are around the same age. It's good to know I wasn't the
only one going through more than simply hot flashes and/or mood
swings. Actually, I must be one of the 15% of women who tend to have
a rougher time than most with many physical symptoms. My periods
stopped almost three years ago. Before that I knew things were
changing when periods began to get around six weeks apart. That
happened for two cycles. Then I had six regular cycles followed by
six months of no periods. (Whenever I had no periods the hot flashes
came on). Then I had two periods of very heavy bleeding which I found
kind of frightening. And some breakthrough bleeding for a few months
after that. Then a couple months of regular but much lighter periods.
Then that was it. Though I have suffered through hot flashes even now
three years later. For the first two years of menopause I had
backaches (sometimes with diarrhea), headaches, that lousey feeling
very much like the awful PMS I got for two weeks every cycle for
years. This past third year no more backaches, heaches reduced, but I
still get hot flashes (sometimes several a day) and fatigue and still
a sluggish, off feeling. I've tried some stuff like Progesterone
Cream and Remifem but none worked and made me feel worse. I hope you
have an easier time. I have to say I have never experienced mood
swings.

Hi, there-Just want you to know that I have been hit
with many, many crying spells as I've begun to grow
through periomenopause. The change of life coming to
me hit me like a ton of bricks. It was a crisis, in
fact, that my ex-husband decided he couldn't see me
through. He bailed out of marriage when I was in the
middle of it, trying my best to help myself deal with
everything that was going on: grief over the only
child I ever gave birth to, a son whom I lost earlier
in life, grief over not being a mother. Then, when he
left, I had to grieve him. He left me in a precarious
financial situation, which has led to a lot of grief.
Then, a subsequent significant other bailed out
because I didn't have enough money to suit him.

As I write this, I say to myself, "My gosh, lady, you
made it through all this, and you're still standing?!"
..by the grace of God is the only way it happened.

I've relocated now myself, have full-time work (though
it doesn't pay what I'd like,) am in school to learn a
new profession, and have now met someone in whom I'm
extremely interested who has a 6-year old daughter. I
can envision that this relationship will blossom into
something very special for all of us.

I went on anti-depressants for awhile, Lexapro, to be
exact, which have done wonders. I was on another one
during the worst part of all this, but I don't need it
anymore. See if your doctor will prescribe this for
you. It will help a great deal.

You are not alone in this, friend. Write whenever
you'd like. I, for one, will be glad to communicate
with you about what we're going through.
Sincerely,
Margaret

Hello and welcome!

The crying all the time..........I used to have!
The morbid thoughts.........hmmmmm, I never had them.

I am so sorry you are having to go thru this.

How old are you?
Are you in perimenopause (irregular periods)??

Are you in menopause (no periods)??

Do you have a balanced diet?

Drink lots of filtered water?

Do you make lists of things that need to be done..........? This is a good thing! It will set your mind at ease and you will be pleased with yourself each time you get to scratch something off of that list.

Tell us more about your self and maybe we can help.

    Welcome to the group,
Sorry I did not email sooner but my email servor has been down.

I had endrometriosis also in  my 30s and had a partial to stop the pain...which it did.

Sorry you are having incontinance problems.....thats a real problem...my mom has that.

You need to be on some sort of hormone therapy thou.

I understand that the patch had your legs swell.

I tried MANY prescription HRT and all of them made my joints swell and hurt. So I quit them all together like you did.

After about 6 months.....my husband begged me to find an alternative. I was yelling at him and my lovable cat....I was a aweful person to live with.

I now take natural hormone replacement therapy. Its called Changes 24. I tried a lot of different over the counter alternatives and they either worked for a couple of weeks or not at all.t

Changes 24 with the lotion has helped me become closer to my husband, it got rid of my mood swings and hot flashes and night sweats......and.....it did not make me gain weight like the presription HRT does. Oh and the lotion helps protect and strengthen your bones.

If you dont want to try the Changes 24 System, you might want to try Hot Mommies Essential 3. I switch back and forth .....I think it helps somehow.

You can find
Changes 24 at

and

Hot Mommies Essential 3 at

You might want to try Hot Mommies first.....it's cheaper and will probably give you the energy you need.
and it does balance hormone levels :>)
