So are you scared like the millions of other women?

The Women's Health Initiative study declared that your hormones are bad for you. So what is one to do?

Live through another night with those awful hot flashes, deal with those miserable pains in the vagina or the vulva or lose any possibility of intimacy with your partner.

Have we got the solution for you — bio-identical hormones.

What are bio-identical

hormones?

Bio-identical hormones are not synthetic, artificial or chemically altered. They are the same hormones produced by the human body, with the exact same molecular structure as in the human body and more consistent with our normal biochemistry.

These naturally occurring are compounded by experienced pharmacists and adjusted based on your individual needs. Bio-identical hormones are an excellent alternative to the "one size fits all" synthetic hormones produced by the drug companies.

What are the advantages of

bio-identical

hormones?

They can be calibrated by compounding pharmacists to specifically fit your needs as your body changes during the menopausal years, adjusting dosages as needed.

No two women are alike. No two women have the same hormonal needs. By using bio-identical hormones, women may target their symptoms specifically using no more hormones than are necessary to resolve symptoms.

How is the decision made as to which hormones are needed?

A woman wishing to take bio-identical hormones is given an extensive medical history questionnaire to determine her individual symptoms and needs.

A team of specialists, including a pharmacist and physician or health care provider, meet to discuss the needs and a formula is compounded.

A little bit of this and a little bit of that is added, and viola, your magic potion is made.

This is not magic. It is reality. A preparation is made to meet your needs.

Monitoring and follow up is extremely important to titrate the preparation and your symptoms until you are satisfied.

Will my prescription

insurance pay for this?

Some plans will; some plans won't.

But to women who believe that bio-identical hormones are their preference, it is well worth the extra cost.

Is this alternative medicine?

No. Once a previously labeled "alternative medicine" product has sufficient biomedical research to support its safety and efficiency in a certain condition, it is no longer considered alternative but is instead a mainstream option.

Registered pharmacies compound hormones in formulas including ointments, creams, crops, sprays and other forms.

Therefore, should you take any hormones? Can't you just age gracefully and get through it? Yes, of course, you can and you also can live without air conditioning! The point I want to make is that you can do what is best for you.

Hormones, synthetic or bio-identical, have a place and you can choose what you want.

The important thing is to consult with your health care provider.

In our practice, we respect the patient's right to choose within certain parameters. They may continue on hormones with very close follow-up or they may take bio-identical hormones.

We believe that women should make up their own minds, given the range of options, as to which type of medications they feel most comfortable with.

No two women are alike. That's the beauty of being a woman! So you go girl, and live comfortably in your own body.

Subject: [menopausal] Anyone else have these symptoms?

It's nice to know someone else has had menopausal symptoms for
several years. With all you read about the usual "two years"
duration, I thought something was really wrong. I've officially been
menopausal for three years, yet have had hot flashes, etc off and on
for almost six. Recently, my symptoms have gotten worse. I notice the
days I don't have hot flashes I feel SO much better. On my worst days
I sometimes suffer indigestion and my feet feel like someone is
squeezing them and sometimes I wake up from a nap feeling really
horrible, like being drugged? Anyone else experience this? Also I've
tried Remifemin and Wild Yam cream, no relief. Are you guys familiar
with Bio-Identical hormones? Suzanne Sommers is all over the media
raving about this natural hormonal replacement.
