I think I really *am* in the early stages of peri-menopause. I'm just
learning about the symptoms through this and another group. I hadn't
realized that some of the things I've been experiencing may be related
to peri-menopause, I just thought I was getting older and/or stupider.
Well ... of course ... it could be that, too :>
The main things I'm experiencing are the hot flashes and flushes, usually
induced by stress. I can't remember the last time I slept through a night,
I always wake up around 4:00 am, or sometimes it's more like I take
naps all night, waking up frequently in between.
All my life I've had irregular periods. Now I've never been so regular in
my
life, but the nature of them is changing ... sometimes lighter, most of the
time very very heavy. And they can last from 3 days to 2 weeks.
I'm having a much harder time concentrating, focusing and remembering.
I used to be an organizational genius, now I sometimes feel like I can't
walk and chew gum at the same time. Sometimes I feel downright stupid!
I've increased my soy intake as much as I can. I seem to be able to handle
tofu all right, and maybe 1/2 cup soy milk a day. For whatever reason, my
system won't tolerate more than 1/2 cup of soy milk. And I can't eat any of
the soy/veggie burger or soy cheese things, they give me severe intestinal
distress. Too bad, because I really *like* soy. I also eat a lot of
high-fibre
food (beans, lentils and other legumes). Very little meat, lots of
vegetables.
