Tori!!!
What an amazing story! I had not yet heard of anyone going home 2 days
after a craniotomy!
I am so glad it is behind you now. Take care of yourself, be NICE to
yourself, don't push yourself beyond your limits and enjoy each and every
day.
I'm happy for you and wish you sleep!

Subject: [meningioma] me update
Update:
I had surgery as scheduled on 6/2. I made it home tonight 6/3
(yes ok I had to get nasty to be released but they were not doing
anything so I saw no need to be there.) ok, so I am a bad patient
what can I say?
Dr. Brem (Johns Hopkins) removed something from my brain. He said
it was kind if like a piece of bone though I was not missing any
bone. He does think this will make me better. I feel pretty good
right now. A little tired and dizzy but it has been a long day.
I remember crying almost all the way down I70 Wednesday morning,
then I remember pre-op and being wheeled into the OR. Mom said it was
a 6 hour surgery. I woke up in the neural ICU yesterday afternoon. I
asked for food and they said I could eat so mom went and got me
mashed potatoes and ice cream (yes I ate it all). Dr. Brem came in
about 8:30 and said how amazing it was. They are not calling it a
brain tumor anymore (though the effects are the same). He said it
looked and felt like a piece of bone. Pathology will not be done for
a while yet so that part is wait and see but he seriously doubts that
it is anything but benign. I slept fitfully last night being awaken
numerous times for medication and vital signs. Thursday morning I
woke up at 5am waited for breakfast at 9, Dr. Brem was supposed to
come in at 8 to 8:30 to discuss my leaving but did not show up. After
breakfast, they got me ready to go to the regular room and told me I
could shower up there. When I got to the new room, they did not know
if I could bathe and said they had to call Dr. Brem. Well, I am still
waiting for that response amongst others. During the day I concerned
myself with checking off the list of things he told me would get me
home tonight (bathroom things, walking around, etc). At 7:30 poor Dr
Lee (One of Dr. Brems staff) showed up. Since it was now almost 24
hours since I had heard any word from them I was to say the least
upset and he received my full thrust. But I told him I thought that
it was unacceptable for me to lay there 24 hours and not know
anything. He told me I could go in the morning and I said no. There
were no lines left in me, the nurses had stopped doing anything (I
measured my output and wrote it down the last time) so there was no
reason for me to stay and be upset all night (and stressed). When I
was obviously quite capable of taking care of myself. So Dr. Lee
called Dr. Brem and they sent me home. :) We made it here about
midnight.
I am home feeling better than I thought I could have. My head
hurts a little but a lot less than the headaches (which though
constant were not that painful). My temples hurt, my vision seems a
bit lacking and I hear noises (this may or may not go away with time
but if that is the price I pay to be able to be myself and feel good
again than it is a small price indeed.) All in all I feel pretty
good. Tonight I am tired and dizzy but it has been a long day I am
just too tired to sleep right now so I though I would update everyone.
Huggs everyone and thanks for your support
