Re: [meningioma] thank you all - and complete story

I just finished Stereotactical Radio Surgery, the poor man's Gamma Knife. It
took almost forty minutes and the nurse congratulated me on not moving.
Actually after I laid on the table I went into a trance state and it just
seemed like a couple of minutes to me. This is easy to do because of all the
meds. I am on. The closest Gamma Knife machine is in Portland, which is
almost 300 miles away. My doctors assured me that the procedure I was
getting duplicated the Gamma Knife one, but it would just take longer. Yeah
and these are the same guys who told me my menningioma would grow back so
slowly I would die of old age before it ever got big enough to start to
bother me again. Well it is back now as big as ever. Jon

Tori, have you considered gamma knife surgery. No incision....just?
radiation. My gamma knife proceedure is scheduled for May 7. I
have a pre proceedure consult the afternoon of the 6th. They say
most people can return to work the following day. I am disabled with
kidney failure, addisons disease and perhaps scleroderma and
lymphodema in my right arm and hand . Scleroderma diagnosis is to
be made after I get my head fixed.!! These complicated any hope of
open head surgery. I hope I made the right decision. Actually, my
only choices were watch it. or gamma knife. I had breast cancer 5
years and 4 months ago. Strangely , I had cancer in both breasts
and each was its own tumor. I had not had it in one and spread it to
the second breast. I actually had cancer two times at once, so to
speak.
I have been told that breast cancer patients have menengiomas
much more frequently than "regular people" Isn't life grand????

Margret
