A group of men who have diabetes and want to share their experiences and self care / managment / knowledge with others.
Monthly prizes shall be awarded for the "Contribution of the Month". (Prizes will be limited to members residing in Australia.)
Check the calender to see what events are planned for the group. If you would like to promote an event let the owner (David Mapletoft) know and he can put your event in the calender.
Diabetes, both type 1 and type 2, are primarily self managed. This means that your knowledge is more than power, its health promoting.
Health care providers such as diabetes educators and dietitians, podiatrists, GP's, diabetes specialists (endocrinolgists) and other, have the scientific knoweldge of what works and what doesn't.
But they may not have the experiences of daily living with diabetes that you, the men with diabetes, have. This life experience is what other men value, and can learn from.
The group meets physically once a month ...check the calender for dates and times of meetings.
A prime example of 'sharing the experience' is journalist Tim Bowden
Tim was diagnosed with diabetes a few years ago. His book is a good guide to what can happen to the individual living with diabetes (see entry about Tim's book "This Cant Happen to me! : Tackling type 2 diabetes")
Tell us your story, your problems, or whatever you like about your experience living with diabetes. Add links to other diabetes sites.
Whatever - its your group!
