"Infinite Night"

Druglords, crooked cops and thieves,
preyin’ on the poor and on the weak,
boys with rifles in their hands,
far too young to understand,

When it’s more than you can bear
let the silence fill the air
get a glimpse of the holy light
Well the sun is just a star,
it reminds you of where we are,
just a little part of the infinite night

Rich holding on to what they got
keep them far away
from those who have not
oceans rise and the fires rage on
too much loss and nothing won

When it’s more than you can bear
let the silence fill the air
get a glimpse of the holy light
Well the sun is just a star,
it reminds you of where we are,
just a little part of the infinite night,
infinite night

[instrumental]

Oh looking down from up above
how we live and how we love
how many days are yet to come

When it’s more than you can bear
let the silence fill the air
get a glimpse of the holy light
Well the sun is just a star,
it reminds us of where we are,
just a little part of the infinite night,
infinite night,
infinite night …

Hi Sean -

Era and I have communicated with each other
off and on for several years. She has an incredible
store of resources that she shares on several groups.
(She also produces beautiful artwork.)

Sant Mat is very cool. When we were in D.C.
I spent time with a group in the Sant Mat model -
Path of The Masters - before meeting people
in Boothbay Harbor who were going to see
Maharaji (Prem Rawat) who teaches
similar Kriya Yoga techniques that can
lead to "Self Knowledge".

There's a lot of information (pro and con)
on the net about Prem Rawat. My experience
with him was incredibly good. He was the
very colorful "Young Perfect Master" in the
70s, but has dropped the cosmic, Hindu-
influenced show that was fashioned for
him when he was young, for a much more
grounded approach to achieving inner peace.

I still go to watch his current videos at
a local Unity (New Thought) Church.

Love, as always,

Jeff

Some comparative mysticism regarding inner planes or levels of creation.
All planes of creation are comprised of many levels within levels or spheres within spheres, and even the physical plane may indeed be part of a vast multiverse of universes or parallel universes. Some Masters describe "18,000" universes! To be sure, our awareness of the creation continues to expand, and we keep perceiving more and more and yet more of All That Is.

 http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o3/era4/om/sheets.gif

There are five basic levels in Sant Mat: astral, mental, causal, etheric, and spiritual.

Sant Mat Masters generally divide the Fifth Plane (Sach Khand) into four zones: Sat Lok (Sat, Haq -- Truth), Alakh Lok (Invisible), Agam Lok (Inaccessible).

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o3/era4/om/planes.jpg

Within th 5th plane (God plane) there are these:
The Eighth,
Akal (Timeless),
Infinite,
Nonduality,
Ultimate Reality,
The Lord of the Soul,
The Nameless One,
The Most High,
Anurag Sagar

(The Ocean of Love and All-Consciousness). Spiritual dimensions have been assigned many names in different schools of mysticism and spirituality, and have been categorized, divided and subdivided ("lower astral", "higher astral", etc...) in various ways, but basically, what is being described is "body, mind and spirit": material planes, mental planes and above all, the timeless spiritual realm that is beyond illusion and duality, above *"Mind" and "Time". The goal of Sant Mat *Meditation is to rise above body-consciousness and consciousness of the other subtle bodies of mind and matter, to merge with the Divine River or Current of Sound and Light that flows into the Ocean of All Consciousness (Sach Khand).

When all the senses are stilled, when the mind
is at rest, when the intellect wavers not--then,
say the wise, is reached the highest state.

This calm of the senses and the mind has been defined
as yoga. He who attains it is freed from delusion.

Eat with Full Awareness

"Before you eat, thank God or the nature,
who gave you the food. Feel for others who
do not have such food at this time, and
mentally share your food with them. Then,
too, think of the qualities of the food,
what you expect to get from that food, what
is the purpose of eating, and concentrate
on the eating itself. Think, `I am chewing
well, I have half-digested the food in my
mouth, then the rest is going to get digested
in the stomach.' If you eat with full awareness,
you will extract maximum energy from the food.
Otherwise, you are just putting the food through
a funnel; it just drops into the stomach and
passes on. When you eat with full concentration,
you get the maximum benefit, and that is the real
yogic way to eat.

"God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi."

Subject: World's Largest-Ever Study Of Near-Death Experience
medit8ionsoc...
Offline Offline

The University of Southampton is launching
the world's largest-ever study of near-death
experiences this week.

The AWARE (AWAreness during REsuscitation)
study is to be launched by the Human Consciousness
Project of the University of Southampton - an
international collaboration of scientists
and physicians who have joined forces to
study the human brain, consciousness
and clinical death.

The study is led by Dr Sam Parnia, an expert
in the field of consciousness during clinical
death, together with Dr Peter Fenwick and
Professors Stephen Holgate and Robert Peveler
of the University of Southampton. Following
a successful 18-month pilot phase at selected
hospitals in the UK, the study is now being
expanded to include other centres within the
UK, mainland Europe and North America.

"Contrary to popular perception," Dr Parnia
explains, "death is not a specific moment. It is
a process that begins when the heart stops
beating, the lungs stop working and the brain
ceases functioning - a medical condition termed
cardiac arrest, which from a biological
viewpoint is synonymous with clinical death.

"During a cardiac arrest, all three criteria
of death are present. There then follows a period
of time, which may last from a few seconds
to an hour or more, in which emergency medical
efforts may succeed in restarting the heart and
reversing the dying process. What people
experience during this period of cardiac arrest
provides a unique window of understanding into
what we are all likely to experience during the
dying process."

A number of recent scientific studies carried
out by independent researchers have demonstrated
that 10-20 per cent of people who go
through cardiac arrest and clinical death report
lucid, well structured thought processes, reasoning,
memories and sometimes detailed recall of
events during their encounter with death.

During the AWARE study, doctors will use
sophisticated technology to
study the brain and consciousness during
cardiac arrest. At the same time, they will
test the validity of out of body experiences
and claims of being able to 'see' and 'hear'
during cardiac arrest.

The AWARE study will be complemented by the
BRAIN-1 (Brain Resuscitation Advancement
International Network - 1) study, in which the
research team will conduct a variety of
physiological tests in cardiac
arrest patients, as well as cerebral monitoring
techniques that aim to identify methods to
improve the medical and psychological care of
patients who have undergone cardiac arrest.

Dr Parnia will formally announce the launch
of the AWARE study at an international symposium
to be held at the United Nations on September 11.

1. The Human Consciousness Project of the
University of Southampton is an international
consortium of scientists and physicians who have come
together with the aim of studying the brain
and consciousness during cardiac arrest and
clinical death through multi-centre studies across
major academic institutions in the United States,
Canada, and Europe.

2. The current UK centres participating in
the study include Southampton University
Hospitals NHS Trust, Hammersmith and Charing
Cross, St Georges, Mayday, Ashford and
St Peter's, Morriston (Swansea),
Royal Bournemouth, Lister Hospital (Stevenage),
Northampton General, and Salisbury Hospitals.

These will be joined by the John Radcliffe (Oxford)
Addenbrookes (Cambridge), Great Western (Swindon),
University Hospital Birmingham,
James Paget University (Great Yarmouth) and East
Sussex Hospitals.

Collaborators in the US include Indiana State
University, Rosalind Franklin University of
Medicine and Science, Drexel University, Brooklyn
Medical Center, the University of Virginia,
Wayne State University and New York University;
as well as Vienna General Hospital in Austria.

3. The University of Southampton is a leading
UK teaching and research institution with a

Subject: Near Death Experiences May Have Biological Explanation, Say Scientists
medit8ionsoc...
Offline Offline

For centuries people have been talking
  about near-death experiences, where the
patient has an out-of-body experience and
remembers seeing a bright light and feels
a great sense of peace. We have linked this
experience with knocking on the doors of
heaven, to many other spiritual explanations.
According to a new study, there might be a
biological explanation for this.

According to a team of researchers from University
of Kentucky, while a person is undergoing a
near death experience the same parts of his/her
brain are activated as the brain of a person
who is having a dream. The scientists compared
110 people, half had never had a near death
experience, while the other half had.

They found that the people who had had a near
death experience had less clearly separated
boundaries between periods of sleep and wakefulness.
The near death experience people reported looking
down at themselves in the operating theatre or
being bathed in a bright, white light. When a
person is in a REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep
stage, similar sensations also happen.

You can read about this study in the journal Neurology.

The majority of people with near death experiences
also experience REM while they are awake (called
REM Instrusion), say the researchers. Less than 25%
of those who have never had a near death experience
ever experience REM stage while they are awake.

REM intrusion may mean you wake up and cannot move
your limbs, or any part of your body, your muscles
may feel incredibly weak, or you hear sounds that
other people cannot hear. It is a paradoxical state
of being in a dream stage while you are awake.

The scientists say that near death experiences are
caused by the same parts of the brain being
activated as they are during REM.

The researchers say they cannot rule out a spiritual
explanation for a near death experience. They say
that, as scientists, their job is to find out what
is going on physically. It is not their job to
find out why.

Just like dreams can seem really real, so can near
death experiences, say the researchers.

Subject: Moha - Don't Put Up With People Who Put You Down
medit8ionsoc...
Offline Offline

This article is from the Concepts of Meditation
section of our web site, Meditation Station
http://www.meditationsociety.com
It is one of the ones that we most often
point to for people to check out and impliment
in their lives. This is because this perspective
is needed so often and yet is so rarely found
here in the USA andthe West in general. Enjoy!

Moha - Don't Put Up With People Who Put You Down

Did you ever have a relative or so-called
friend who consistently said demeaning and
critical things to you? "Are you going out
dressed like that?" "You'll never amount to
anything!" "Why don't you go on a diet?"
and so on, and so on. Are you still going
through this? If so, why are you letting
this go on? You are having your self-esteem,
energy, and spirit be diminished or extinguished.
Even if it is claimed that these comments were
being made "for you own good", if you look at
it objectively, you will see that they have
not brought you any benefit and in fact have
caused you to suffer. Understanding this is "Moha".

Technically, Moha translates from Sanskrit
as "Delusion". Philosophically though, it is
much more. There are probably billions of
people in the world right now who understand
the real meaning of Moha. Because of this, they
lead their lives in a much saner, rational,
inner peace-producing manner than we do in
America and other countries where the concept
of Moha is virtually unknown. Basically, it
means that you put up with stupid (although not
necessarily unintelligent), mean spirited, or
negative people just because you have some kind
of nostalgic connection to them. So, if they
happen to be related to you, have known you for
years, work with you, have the same friends, or
whatever, they feel entitled to bring suffering
into your life. Sometimes this comes in the form
of physical, mental, emotional or spiritual
direct personal attacks, and sometimes just by
their own ongoing habit of expressing negativity
about life and things in general. And you
continue to let them be part of your life.
Pretty delusional reaction, isn't it?

So, now that you know about Moha, you must,
for your own well being, cut these people out
of your life. It is very much like the suggestions
that AA, NA, and other 12 step programs make -
don't associate with people, places, or things
that will bring you down. It is really very simple.
If something brings you peace, it is "good" and
should be encouraged. If something takes your
peace away, it is "bad" and must be eliminated
from your life. Sometimes, because of economic
situations, like your job, or due to relationships,
like your in-laws, you must continue your physical
contact with the people who you realize are "bad"
to and for you. You must then at least divorce
yourself mentally and emotionally from reacting
to their comments.

As a matter of fact, you can gain from seeing
them for the pitiful beings they are and feel
compassion for them. After all, they have to
wake up every morning and spend all day in their
own miserable company. But you must never let
them "get under your skin". You owe nothing but
compassion to anyone whose words or actions
cause you to suffer. This will free you to create
a life full of those things that you have found
to be "good" for you. And you will live happily
ever after.

Take It Easy

"As far as possible, live simply and lead
a natural life. Don't tax your brain, don't
tax your mind and don't tax your system
by overloading and overstressing. Take it
easy, but not lazy. Yoga is something very
easy, quite enjoyable. If anybody says,
`Oh, I am trying hard to become a Yogi,'
I say that person will never become a Yogi.
One can never become a Yogi by trying hard;
that is the exact opposite of Yoga. Take it
easy, that is Yoga, I say. That's my experience:
Take it easy. Retain your tranquility always.

"God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi."

This Atman-business!
by Swami Chidananda

A seeker I know once said to me, "The world
would be a much better place and people here
would be much happier if everybody would do
one simple thing." "What is that?" I asked.
She said, "Let everybody write in the air in
huge letters, "MYOB," for "Mind Your Own Business!"
If everybody would mind his own business, the
world would be quite all right." I found another
meaning in her little homily. Do you know what
"your own" is in Sanskrit? The word in Sanskrit
is Atman, and Atman is your own Self, so "mind
your own business" really means, "mind your own
Self!" Unfortunately, this Atman-business is the
one thing we don't want to do, because we like to
mind other people's business instead! This is why
we do not realise our true Self. We should be
filling our lives with a great concern for this
Atman, reflecting over it, meditating upon it,
living to attain the fullest experience of it,
because this Atman is our very own Self.

Lord Buddha put much the same thing in a different
way. In his parting message to his disciples he
said, "Listen to me. Do not neglect your higher
Self. Always be diligent in your own welfare.
This is not selfishness but annihilation of the
little self. When the petty self perishes, what
remains? That which remains cannot be described
in a way that is understandable to the petty self,
for it has ceased to be."

Do you know the story of Sinbad the Sailor? Sinbad
was shipwrecked on an island, and one day he found
an old man lying on the beach whose legs were
useless. The old man begged Sinbad to lift him up,
so out of compassion Sinbad raised him onto his
shoulders. But as he did so, the old man coiled
both his legs around Sinbad's neck and locked them.
From then on Sinbad was ruled over by this old man.
"Take me here, take me there! Let me have this,
let me have that!" Sinbad almost fell into despair,
but then an idea came to him. One day he took the
old man to some grape vines, and the old man gorged
himself on fermented grapes and got intoxicated.
In a swoon he loosened his grip on Sinbad's neck,
and then with one great shove Sinbad was able to
throw him off. Just as this old man ruled Sinbad,
so are we also ruled by something. The old man
riding us is the ego, and this diehard ego has been
holding us in a tight grip for ages. Our bondage is
due to this ego, and we must shake it off to be
free—that is the only way.

Positive Thinking May Protect Against Breast Cancer
Feelings of happiness and optimism play
a positive role against breast cancer. Research
published in the open access journal BMC Cancer
suggests that while staying positive has a protective
role, adverse life events such as the loss of a
parent or close relative, divorce or the loss of
a spouse can increase a woman's risk of developing
the disease.

Ronit Peled from the Faculty of Health Sciences at
Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, led a
team of researchers who questioned 255 women with
breast cancer and 367 healthy controls about their
life experiences and evaluated their levels of happiness,
optimism, anxiety and depression prior to diagnosis.
Peled said, "Young women who have been exposed to a
number of negative life events should be considered an
'at-risk' group for breast cancer and should be treated
accordingly".

The researchers do point out that women were interviewed
after their diagnosis, which may colour their recall
of their past emotional state somewhat negatively. However,
according to Peled, "We can carefully say that experiencing
more than one severe and/or mild to moderate life event
is a risk factor for breast cancer among young women. On
the other hand, a general feeling of happiness and optimism
can play a protective role".

The authors point out that, "The mechanism in which the
central nervous, hormonal and immune systems interact and
how behaviour and external events modulate these three
systems is not fully understood". As such, they suggest
that "The relationship between happiness and health should be
examined in future studies and relevant preventative
initiatives should be developed".

Yo Karthik,
There is a process by which you keep trying to remember
back as far as you can and then ask for your memories
from prior to this birth to present themselves. But,
I think it would be infinitly more useful to try to
experience this lifetime as it takes place. And this
can only be done with an awareness of the present
moment - moment to moment. This ongoing being in
your life as it occurs is what many meditative
practices (like Mindfulness) are all about. By trying to
rehash the past (of this or any other life), we are
missing the availability of knowing Reality as it is,
as Reality takes place only in the present. There
is not much difference between hallucinating and
just letting your mind wander here and there. Neither
rarely is beneficial and usually distracts you from
the things you really should be aware of. Focus
your attention in the moment and what you really need
to deal with and know, and what will be beneficial for you
will become present. And that is the valuable present that
meditation brings gift wrapped for you.
Peace and blessings,
Bob

In the photo section, in the folder "Zen
and the Art of Knifemaking", you will
find a new knife that features Mammoth
tooth handles. As I was witnessing the
assembly of this knife taking place,
there was a unique feeling of an ancient
connection present. The obviousness of
handling a 30,000 year old object and
being extra careful to not mess it up
also brought about a special awareness
that is hard to label, but can perhaps be
represented by saying that the usual "just
witnessing and letting flow whatever may flow"
attitude had an extra effortless effort
energy added to it. I just saw an episode
of "American Dad" last night where the Dad
had souped up his car so he could drag
race with it (to impress his wife), and at one
point he hit a switch that ignited a nitro burst
that made the car blast off extra quickly.
And that's sort of how I felt during this
particular knife making session. It really
seemed to touch the semi-eternal nature of
Mother Earth. I can't wait to see what using
meteorite will feel like!
The pics are # 45 and 46. And to see many

Currently we have posted on-line, about 40
hours of free video interviews with 16 teachers,
many of whom you may know and already have
an interest in. We are growing very fast,
and are adding videos monthly.

*New Web Site*

video we have is on our site, (which is only a
week old), but we have been working with the TV
show for about 18 months.

The show is called "Never Not Here" and this is
where you can find it:

We are totally open to any teacher who wants
to appear on the show, although it has been
clear that those very established teachers
(those with their own video crew and many DVD's)
will have less interest than emerging teachers
who have very few or no video tools. Certainly
some emerging teachers will become the established
teachers of tomorrow.

All these videos are on Google and Viddler, and
can be freely embedded in any other website, such
as your own. This will be especially advantageous
if one of these teachers is coming to your area
and you wish to promote their meetings by showing
what they are like.

Also please feel free to let others in your
circle of friends know about what we are doing.
Sincerely,

Richard Miller

Ashoke,

You should check out literature on Kundalini Awakening symptoms. You may have had an awakening. It sometimes gives healing powers (usually temporarily).
Do a Google search on Kundalini Awakening and you will find a lot of stuff which may help explain this. There are books also on this.

Hello to all members of the Group,

I am ashoke arya practising meditation for the past 17 years. I would like to state my experience and seek your opinion or comments. The begining was sudden as I was very much depressed with my destiny. I was taking a stroll at my lawn and thnking about where I went wrong, as I was a successful bizman. When I tired, I came in my bedroom and sat on the bed with closed eyes. After some time when I opened them I saw white smoke type clouds in the room and I was not visible in the mirror on dressing table in front of me.

But, in 15-20 seconds, I could see two big balls on lights on the palm of my hands which became wide open with surprise. I thought it could be hallucination, but it continued every day. Gradually, some smoke like clouds started emerging from the mirror and making the room cloudy. After some days, the clouds started becoming bright. And, after some months I could see in the mirror or from corner of my eyes that bright objects flying the room and some times some shadows.

Once my daughter was in comma, and I was out of town. Suddenly it striked in my mind to reach home soon and by flight I came back. She was on medication for the past 3-4 days. But, in the evining, when after meditation went to her and kept my hands on her head and just asked myself why this to me. And, believe me in 3 minutes she became alright and said some electric current moved inside here body.

Since I was more involved into my biz, I did not took much interest, but in a span of 6-7 years, I had to close down the biz. I became a healer and treated more that 500 patients till now suffering from chronic ailments like asthma, migraine, insomnia, arthritis, any type of pain, ritinitis pigmentoza, and even diabetes and more. Since the root of this energy is my soul, I have named it Theotherapy.

I am doing research on it now and seek more information about, if someone knows.

Thanks and regards,

Ashoke Arya

More thoughts relative to my "favorite research" :
Many of the research papers you will
find were funded by TM and the results indicate that
TM "works". But they neglect to say that it is not
necessary to pay TM $3000 or however much for a Mantra
to say. Any word will work. This has been well
documented by Dr Herbert Benson in his "Relaxation
Response" studies by the Harvard Medical School. To
put it simply, every meditation technique will
work if it has certain components. More about Dr Benson
and his work can be found here:
http://www.relaxati onresponse. org/
The specific Relaxation Response is copied below
(and it costs $3000 less than TM!!! :)
Enjoy!

The Relaxation Response
1.
Sit quietly in a comfortable position.
2.
Close your eyes.
3.
Deeply relax all your muscles,
beginning at your feet and progressing up to your face.
Keep them relaxed.
4.
Breathe through your nose.
Become aware of your breathing.
As you breathe out, say the word, "one"*,
silently to yourself. For example,
breathe in ... out, "one",- in .. out, "one", etc.
Breathe easily and naturally.
5.
Continue for 10 to 20 minutes.
You may open your eyes to check the time, but do not use an alarm.
When you finish, sit quietly for several minutes,
at first with your eyes closed and later with your eyes opened.
Do not stand up for a few minutes.
6.
Do not worry about whether you are successful
in achieving a deep level of relaxation.
Maintain a passive attitude and permit relaxation to occur at its own
pace.
When distracting thoughts occur,
try to ignore them by not dwelling upon them
and return to repeating "one."
With practice, the response should come with little effort.
Practice the technique once or twice daily,
but not within two hours after any meal,
since the digestive processes seem to interfere with
the elicitation of the Relaxation Response.

* or any soothing, mellifluous sound, preferably with no meaning.
or association, to avoid stimulation of unnecessary thoughts.

Control Your Tongue

"If you really want to achieve something great
in this world—not only spirituality, even in
your material life—control your tongue. Talk
limitedly, decently, measure your words twice
before you talk, because a word is a bird. Yes,
once let out, you can't whistle it back. It goes
out of your cage, the teeth, from the mouth.
Think twice, think thrice: Can I use this word?
Can I send it out? We don`t think. We just say
something and then, after, we say, `Oh, I'm sorry.'
Well you can't just by saying `sorry' take it back.
It has damaged your relationship, your reputation.
It is not only money we must spend in a thrifty way,
even our words must be spent in the proper way.

"God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi."
