MedQi folks (sorry if this overposts to the list),
I wanted to let you know that one of my favorite teachers will be making a visit to the Bay Area at the end of this month. Her name is Thea Elijah and she'll be leading two workshops.
One workshop -- Medicine Without Form (MWF) -- is appropriate to any sort of practitioner (or layperson!). I've taken it twice, both times on the East Coast, and am ecstatic that Thea will be here to lead this workshop. It can really transform any practitioner's engagement with their healing modality. I'd love for you all to come meet Thea. MWF is a one-day workshop, $75 -- incredibly invaluable and affordable, especially considering that she's coming across the country to teach it. More info is below the line in this email. Make sure you read the part about kitties :)
The other workshop would be more appropriate to anyone interested in Five Element Chinese medicine -- regardless of whether you practice acupuncture or herbology. Most of my understanding of Five Element Chinese medicine comes from Thea. She will blow you away and transform the way you internalize, relate with, and teach the elements/season/etc to your patients. Even though the other workshop is The Spirit of the Herbs and you may not think you'll get much out of it because it's 'about herbs,' she'll introduce the herbs through the Five Elements, and really, deeply paint a picture about the elements.
I've written more info for you below. Please contact me if you want more details or have questions about any of it. Forward this along to your colleagues, students, friends and other practitioners.
Meow meow,
- Lauren

If you are unfamiliar with Thea’s work, you can get a taste of her style at her website below. Scroll down to find audio files that you can download to listen.

I recommend the audio recording of ZHE BEI MU FRITILLARIA, available at the link above. It's one of her smaller available files, approximately 10 MB, and runs about 10 minutes long. It is near the bottom of the page on the right hand side.
If you have more time to listen, I highly recommend FINDING A SENSE OF BELONGING, her keynote speech at the Building Bridges conference in 2007, which runs about 46 minutes long. I was there live, enjoyed it immensely, and am happy to continue re-experiencing it through audio due to Thea’s generosity.
Workshops lead by Thea are unparalleled, participatory, full-mind-spirit-body-sensory experiences. I’ve twice taken Medicine Without Form with her and enthusiastically look forward to experiencing it with her again. This workshop is appropriate to ANYONE, whether a practitioner of a healing modality or a layperson. Additional information from Thea:
"Most of what I teach in MWF, I learned from Sufis and veterinarians. Really good veterinarians are profound. How else can you get a sick cat to trust you within three seconds? These are deep skills, powerful skills, that have more to do with spirit and body than words and mind. They are teachable.
This deeper-than-words communication is also valuable for people who ARE very mental or very verbal, because it helps us access otherwise undeveloped aspects of our healership. It's not airy-fairy and it's not emooootionally drippy. It's practical and sane."
It is very rare for her to teach on the West Coast and I urge you not to miss this opportunity. In The Spirit of the Herbs, you will be inspired by a completely fresh Five Element spirit-oriented approach to many familiar herbs. Thea very much embodies the herbs as she teaches. It is the EXPERIENCE of her teaching that is powerful. Come prepared to be swept away in the spirit of the herbs themselves!!
Please come!
Warmly,
Lauren Lau
